MTE. This is one of those things where - I highly doubt crowds of people are accosting OP daily, forcing them to talk about how awesome Agents of SHIELD is, pinning their eyelids open to make them watch it. So you hate it. So some people don't. Change the damned channel and walk away. Sheesh.

I don't see how it contradicts their thesis. They say A) the writing's bad, B) it plays with tired tropes, C) it doesn't deliver on a promising setting because in that it is boring. It's written in a ragey way but I don't think it contradicts their argument. You'd expect that a badly written show about tired tropes would be boring, even if the setting is promising.

Preach. This show is the suck. Not because of the budget; things with low budgets can be good (see: I, Claudius), but because of the crappy writing/acting.

i had poor hopes for this show after how quiet and unenthusiastic the fandom became after the SDCC reveal.

i wanted to like this show so badly. but it's complete garbage. even coulson doesn't save it.

that and the way they've handled skye makes me gag. she's the epitome of Magical Wonderful OC In Fanfic Universe With Mysterious Sad Background Tied Into Everything. she could've been good.

I like to think that this is a cautionary tale about what happens when minor ensemble darkhorses get their own show (even though I know there's more to it than that).

I'm actually wondering how it is ppl are so against this show, like, i don't think it's necessarily /bad/, boring? yeah. cliched? yeah. poorly written? def. poorly acted? sometimes, but i think they're getting better at it.

but i think some of the things that are being used in the show are interesting. i dunno i'd rather watch an ensemble cast with different personalities and motivations than tony stark do anything even for a second. but i guess i'm in the minority there.

i also wonder exactly which episodes ppl have seen, because much as i love this stupid show there are quite a few absolutely terribad eps (Pilot, The Asset, Girl in the Flower Dress, and The Well stand out. esp. the pilot.) but i think some eps were pretty good, or at least interesting - 0-8-4, F.Z.Z.T, Repairs, and Eye Spy.

but something i can admit to is not liking certain characters. I mean hell, it took me 6 episodes to like Skye and I've only just warmed up to Ward, a fondness that i expect will soon vanish again. Much as I adore Coulson, he doesn't make the show watchable just by himself for me. If it weren't for Melinda May and Fitzimmons I would've dropped the show by ep 3.

btw, if anyone's gonna respond to this don't waste time by saying how awful the show is and that it's a waste and what a shame, blah blah. that's boring, and we've heard it over and over since week one.

I don't think it's the greatest show in the world but I like it, and honestly for all the complaining that it's terribly acted/written I have seen TV shows that are far, far worse so for me AoS really isn't that bad.

I'm sorry that you don't like it. I don't agree that it's a bad show, just a show getting the kinks out. It's become steadily better throughout the first season. The acting has loosened up and gotten better, the writing has tightened up a bit, the sense of this particular corner of the Marvel universe is being knit together better (I'd say about half way through the season is started getting its sea-legs.) It is neither brilliant nor unforgettable yet, but the characters are, in my opinion, fleshing out nicely.

In short, I'm one of the fans who enjoys it, who sees improvement and room for more, who does not find it dull, but who understands if it doesn't appeal to other folks.

I am a bit bemused by the strength of some dislike I've seen, but a) that's how us fans roll sometime b) this is a great place to let it all out and c) I've probably ranted about things, too.

I will never defend the many failings of Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D or pretend it isn't badly written, a waste of potential, a creaky trope-bot shambling through a blighted wasteland of a script, or anything else haters say it is. It is exactly that thing.

I will also never stop coming into AoS hate threads to express my love for Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.. In fact, I get happy when I see a new AoS hate secret, because, yay, another place to talk about how much I love AoS in spite of everything.

Fandom, eh? What can you do?

I thoroughly enjoyed the handful of episodes I watched while Gibbs was in re-runs and plan to watch the whole season from the beginning at some point.
