Just curious: did you have a specific moment when you stopped believing him or was it the pile-up of all his stories eventually getting to you.

Personally I'm inclined to think he's telling the truth; I just don't want to hear it. I only visit his site now because Tamora Pierce is an active commenter on her own work and she is My Queen.

I think the main reason I don't really believe him any more is the lack of consequences all these horrible things had on him and his relationships. It just seems unlikely to me.

I wish I could quit that place. I've weaned myself off the comments and don't read about The West Wing anymore. But I'm not sure I can quit SPN or the books...

But I believe there's a kernel of truth to everything he says, but that he embellishes the hell out of things.

I always felt like a lot of it was BS. It was way too convenient that he had all these stories that tied it to whatever he was reviewing...

I believe there's an element of truth there, don't get me wrong, but it some of it seems pretty exaggerated and made-up. :/

Idk if he's making it up (though he does harp on it quite a bit, almost farcically) but I barely made it through his ATLA stuff before I couldn't take it anymore. And his whole "don't say the word crazy EVER" thing got annoying real quick.

See, I believe the stuff about his past. It's everything else I'm suspicious about. I'm not saying he's lying but... Having a few series you know nothing about? Fine. Having some things you only know a few things about? Also fine. But I can't help but eye him sideways when he claims to know absolutely nothing about literally every even remotely popular thing.

Yeah, I find him far too quick to jump on the most popular bandwagons, especially Supernatural, to be so limited in knowledge. Not to mention, he said upfront that he knows there's "a gay angel or something" but then acted SHOCKED AND AMAZED that maybe heaven could be a thing and that Lucifer existed.

Yeah, this is my issue as well. Either he's lying or he has little to no actual interest in pop culture. The first one makes him a bad person, the second one -- well, why would I want to read thousands of words written by someone who's not really interested in any of this?

it's gotten to the point for me where i can't really believe that he's been THIS sheltered from basically every single piece of pop culture to the point where he has to loudly proclaim "OH MY GOD GUYS I AM NOT PREPARED THIS DID JUST NOT HAPPEN OH MY GOD THE FEELS AND WHAT IS GOING ON RIGHT NOW I DO NOT QUITE UNDERSTAND" in his reaction bullet points. i like his little analyses from time to time, and i will check out the blog every now and again - especially if he's doing a series I like - but yeah...

(like he's doing colour of magic right now, and nearly every reaction is "*GASP* THIS IS REALLY BIZARRE! I DON'T KNOW WHAT IS GOING ON" - it's a fucking terry pratchett book - absurd, imaginative/slightly cuckoo humour and storytelling is kind of pratchett's schtick...)

You should try watching his SPN videos. Five minutes in and he's all "I don't understand what's going on?! I don't get it!!"

NOBODY GETS IT. IT'S FIVE MINUTES INTO THE EPISODE. YOU'RE NOT SUPPOSED TO GET IT YET! For the record, I don't buy his videos, but I take a weird bit of glee from snatching them up the free links.
