Re: Favourite Characters you like to see Whumped?

Yes to Magneto whump. I somehow never manage to find the good ones, though.

I really like the idea, but my classes might get in the way of my participating consistently. Otherwise, though, I'm all for it.

YOU MISSED A FEW

Star Trek or Star Wars?
Manga or American comics?
Judas Priest or Iron Maiden?
Britney Spears or Christina Aguilera?
The Addams Family or The Munsters?
Elementary or BBC Sherlock?

That is a shame. As a Dutch person where dykes are everywhere and always maintained I always wondered why England seemed to flood so much.

It's British, not American, and not even modern material, but there is a televised version of Christopher Marlowe's Edward II from 1970 that emphasizes the queer themes. Ian McKellan is Edward and David Calder is his lover Piers Gaveston. It's quite good, even for a tv adaptation of a stage production.

PTC did this Edward II in repertory with Shakespeare's Richard II, which was also filmed but isn't available over here afaik.

You might want to check out the documentary The Celluloid Closet for some ideas. It's been so long since I saw it that I don't remember any specifics. I think it only dealt with movies and not TV.

(Anonymous) 2014-04-05 09:36 pm (UTC)(link)
What, seriously? All the people I know that watch it love it, and all the critics' reviews praise it.

Re: Interesting Secret Thread?

Sometimes shows like Happy Endings and Friends make me wish I had a core group like that. Then I realize:

- The characters don't appear to have any personal space, as their friends just waltz right in. I'm kind of big on personal space.

- I had two "core" groups like that before, albeit online (so things may have been different), and even though we were adults everything went 'splodey with teh dramaz. Not to mention the group hierarchy.

But still, sometimes it would be nice to be able to do things with people, rather than having to rely on the few friends I have being available.

Well, if the cousin thing squicks you I understand and don't hold it against you. I just don't think F/M is usually portrayed in the OOC way that M/S is; most F/M art is either some angsty rendition of the rescue scene or some gen-ish thing of them being affectionate--which I can at least conceive of.

Bobby Drake from X-men (comics, cartoon and movies)

Mike Weston from The Following (fortunately the show is pretty sadistic to its characters so there's plenty of canon whump for him)

Why do people think this guy has an attractive face?!?!

(Anonymous) 2014-04-05 09:37 pm (UTC)(link)
I thought it was Loki with an armor upgrade and some random character

I get where you're coming from. My vision is pretty much useless without my glasses, and so not being able to have lenses to look through would be about as debilitating as losing the use of a limb, and so when a fictional character, who's in peril anyway, gets his glasses broken or destroyed or lost, yeah, that's just a extension of my eye-squick.

The stalled fic that Elven Lieutenant comment was based on, Melkor got him on side in Valinor by being friendly, helpful and teaching him how to use his arcane skills better.

Valandhir once said her POV on evil is that it very rarely ever tells lies. It tells the truth, but twists it in such a way as to direct people's thoughts how it wants them to think.

Oh, gods, yes. That episode made me *rage* and cry and just be horrified the first time i saw it. I think i was a teen...but yeah. MY WORST NIGHTMARE.

I think I'm gonna let it alone for tonight, but I think I'm going to put up an "Ideas and suggestion" thread tomorrow. I would very much like it if you'd keep an eye out for that, you seem to know what's up with book clubs.

Philtrums, lololol.

Uuum, I'd be down for more about backs, shoulderblades and forearms. You'd think there'd be more talk of forearms in fic but I've rarely seen it. At least in my fandoms.

Do you remember that David Attenborough secret about sex? That was a great one :D The thread was marvellous, too.

As a pipe smoker myself, bless you. In the original canon, he's just got a nice, simple briar. Though I think there was also a reference to a meerschaum someplace? It's been a while.

I admit the calabash is cool-looking; I once read that it crept in via early stage adaptations, because it's easily identifiable from the balcony.
