Actually, "An American Tail 5". There's 4

"An American Tail"
"An American Tail: Fivel Goes West" [2]
"An American Tail: Treasure of Manhattan Island" [3]
"An American Tail: Mystery of the Night Monster" [4]

(or 6, if you want to count in the "Fivel's American Tails" TV series)

I think part of it comes from the fact that everyone can write (writing well, on the other hand...) and do so often in daily life, but most people don't draw. So art beyond stick figures is like this great mystery to be admired without analysis, but writing gets the 'I could do that/do better!' reaction.

But I'd argue that the film has nothing to do with that. It is about Anya and that's it. In the background of the film, maybe there's a little of that going on, but from what I remember the movie is pretty much not about the revolution at all, or any after effects of it. It is about a lost princess on a journey to find her family. It isn't about happy bubbly post-Revolution Russia, and is absolutely not about communism.

Oh wow, that's a great guess! I'm rewatching SG:A and he's really quite an interesting character. Too bad he seems to have vanished. (I'm in season three now.)

I always picture it as slash. Jesus fucking Christ -- two different people.

Yup. He portrayed Frank (who I still think is better suited for Martha than anyone else).

Damn, anon. Slow your roll there (unless you have concrete suggestions on how to make secrets more detailed, then by all means go ahead).

SNK comm

Post your fic, art or meta! A discussion post will be held for each new chapter - come speculate and chat about the latest canon or anything else SNK or SNK spin-off series related. There will also be regular rec posts, with links to kinkmeme fill updates.

I'm more of a visual person now, so I enjoy fanart/manga/doujinshi more than fanfic.

It's not that I don't like fanfic, it's just that not a lot of it suits my personal taste.

Re: Anon who asked for anime recs yesterday

is Ayakashi worth watching?

Nah...

How similar/different is it to Mononoke?

Like anon said up there, only the last three episodes are the ones that deal with the first story featuring the Medicine Seller, and what created the Mononoke spin-off. Here's a handy-dandy resume of the series. But yeah, watch only the last three, which is the infamous Bakeneko/Cat Goblin arc.

Otoh, the opening is pretty good and the scenes/faces appearing change depending on the story.

I forgot to rec this, but have you seen Samurai Champloo?

Re: Tea!

(Anonymous) 2014-05-01 06:01 pm (UTC)(link)
I loooooooove tea. If I believed in reincarnation I'd swear I was Asian or British in a past life. Some of my favorite kinds:
Earl Grey
Irish breakfast
Oolong
Lapsang Souchong
Darjeeling
rose, vanilla, cinnamon, chocolate or lemon flavored
Japanese green tea
rooibos
Always hot, and never with milk. Usually without sugar. Bags or loose.

I like that ep too.

I like that ep too. The only thing about I didn't care for was Keiko talking about eating "sea berries", which sounds like slang for fish shit.

Re: OP: It's Percy.

(Anonymous) 2014-05-01 06:40 pm (UTC)(link)
I've never had the impression that people hated Percy. I agree that in-universe the rest of the Weasleys were really shitty to him, but it never seemed like fandom hated him. When I was more into HP I recall reading a decent amount of Percy fic, considering he was such a background character (and yes, the Oliver Wood/Percy fic was amazing), though, yeah, it did take some looking to find it. I always felt bad for him and thought there was something interesting going on with the character. And he does get his redemption moment at the end of the series.

My grandma was 1 y.o. in 1918 and I'm only 26. There are a lot of people in their 30's and 40's and probably even older in this community, their grandparents could easy be teens and even adults in those years.

I enjoy public speaking and I'm even pretty good at it. I can fall asleep almost anywhere and have awesome dreams. And I don't get yeast infections. Ever.

I like rooibos in chai too...not so much by itself. (It tastes too much like something that's good for you--which, in fact, is how I was introduced to it. "Drink this so you won't catch a cold!") Rooibos blended with honeybush is also nice.

(Anonymous) 2014-05-01 07:35 pm (UTC)(link)
Somehow, my first thought was Autor from Princess Tutu

Re: so almost human just got fireflied

(Anonymous) 2014-05-01 07:40 pm (UTC)(link)
This is a good point! Although I think Fringe is a better example because it got made after Firefly, and because it had consistently poor ratings and they could easily have justified cancelling it in financial terms but never did - whereas X-Files had fairly solid ratings and eventually became a decent sized hit.

Re: Beta reader/author horror stories

(Anonymous) 2014-05-01 07:54 pm (UTC)(link)
The fic was around 500 words. Procrastination and depression I guess is the reason. I don't get around to doing many things.

Procrastination. And then it was too late.

I honestly wish we'd go back to that, if only to confuse the younger generation. :P

Also, they felt more fandomy to me, more so than fluff, porn, smut.

People generally produces patronuses of animals seen in their native country, but that is not a certainty.

People have been known to conjure Patronuses of Mammoths and Giants, but examples of this size are rare.

Most patronuses are common animals. Dogs, cats and horses are among the most common examples, with magical creatures being amongst the rarest. The inbetween covers things like foxes, otters, deer, etc. Prehistoric animals, as mentioned above with the mammoth, are possible also, but very uncommon. They are heavily based on the individual, so it's more than possible for twins to produce very different patronuses.

Owls are surprisingly uncommon, considering their closeness with wizardkind.

Larger patronuses do not appear to take more energy to conjure, nor are they necessarily more powerful. An example given is that a lowly mouse Patronus was capable of holding off an army of dementors single handedly.

You can find detailed information on Patronuses on Chapter 12, Book 3 on Pottermore. It answers many of your questions ... but not as to whether aquatic ones are possible, which I hope, 'cos I'd want mine to be an octopus. :c

As been said, it is not impossible. Depending on the age of the OP, it could be a parent, a grandparent, or even a great grandparent. I am in 40s, but three out of my four grandparents were born in the 1800's (and the one that wasn't was a teenager in 1918).
