The tumblr transtenders are disgusting.

I just. Fuck them. Fuck them all. Maybe one day they'll grow up, and realize that they were idiots the whole time, but the damage they've done...

Fuck. Them.

What is "transtender"? I thought it was a typo but I looked it up and apparently it's a thing, although I couldn't find a definition anywhere.

Re: Complain about other websites

People, usually younger woman, but not always, who claim that they're trans without having dysphoria, who keep insisting that people can be trans without dysphoria as long as they ~feel trans~. More recently they've taken to ~identifying~ as non-binary, but not trans men! Because trans men are scum! Because you don't need dysphoria to be trans, therefor anyone who is a trans man is choosing to be that!

Transtenders tend to use nouns-as-pronouns, and claim that anyone that disagrees with them is being transphobic/transmysoginist. They willingly misgender people who disgaree, including someone who straight up insisted that they won't believe that there are any trans woman truscum (people that believe being transgender requires body dysphoria, and transitioning is often (but not always) a way of alleviating that dysphoria), and thus all the trans woman must actually be trans men in disguise.

A lot of them describe themselves with genders like "demigirl" aka "I feel like a girl sometimes but not always but I don't have dysphoria."

For some examples of the utter bullshit, try going into the "truscum" tag on tumblr, and looking at all the people making trash/poop jokes, or the "transmisandry" tag where it's totally okay to trigger trans people's dysphoria as long as they're trans men.

"A lot of them describe themselves with genders like 'demigirl' aka 'I feel like a girl sometimes but not always but I don't have dysphoria.'

I think the relevant term is "genderfluid."

I'm not going to defend anything you're linking, but as a queer person who doesn't identify as either gender, I'm always wary when people start policing who is and isn't a "real" queer person. You don't have to suffer dysphoria to not identify as whatever stupid category people keep trying to lump you into.

Re: Complain about other websites

(Anonymous) 2014-05-03 09:23 pm (UTC)(link)
If you don't have dysphoria you are not trans. Period. To say otherwise is transphobic, because you're turning being transgender into a choice.

Now, who else thinks that being transgender is a choice?

Re: Complain about other websites

(Anonymous) 2014-05-03 09:27 pm (UTC)(link)
For fuck's sake, just because you don't physically feel like you're in the wrong body doesn't mean you're *choosing* to be trans, that doesn't even make sense. If I'm a guy, and I'm into guys, but I don't fuck them, am I *choosing* not to be gay? No.

SA

That analogy makes even less sense, sorry. Teach me to post after an all-nighter :-/

That is not actually part of the definition though? I mean, it's tumblr, I'm sure there are fakes... but that's not the official definition of trans.

I could not choose to identify as male or female. I would not be capable of identifying as either of those things. That doesn't make me trans, and I never claimed to be such, but it doesn't make me male or female, either.

I know the term "agender." I have been educated enough to be familiar with the term. But there are probably plenty of queer people who've never heard it and don't know that it fits them. If someone's calling themself by the wrong term, you certainly have the right to be irritated, but that doesn't mean they're a fake, it just means they're confused.

There are lots of components to being trans and personal agency is one of them for many people. It isn't for everyone, but yes, for many it is. Also, dysphoria and choice can coexist, you know.

Re: Complain about other websites

(Anonymous) 2014-05-03 09:48 pm (UTC)(link)
Can't you see how that hurts those of us that do have dysphoria, though? Because now people that are meant to be our own community are telling us that it's all in our heads and we should just stop being dysphoric, as though we don't get enough of that from everyone else.

I'm a woman, I hate the fact that my body is not, and now it's everyone making me feel even worse about the fact because apparently I'm simply choosing to be difficult about it.

I agree that there's such thing as a non-binary gender or a non-gender in the first place, but I honestly believe it shouldn't be called "trans". By nature, the word means "transitional". If you're fine in your body and not identifying with either binary gender, that's great! But it's not trans.

Re: Complain about other websites

(Anonymous) 2014-05-03 09:54 pm (UTC)(link)
Non-binary-identified people aren't the ones hurting people. It's the people who react poorly to them and then decide that their reaction applies to everyone who claims not to be cis who are the problem. Non-binaries aren't making anyone react like that, and would also prefer it if they stopped.

I am not trans, and I am not saying I am trans. I am queer, and I want the right to claim that term without people telling me no, I'm [whatever the fuck they want to call me this time.]

What about nonbinary people with dysphoria? I'd love to be able to transition but I really doubt that either the medical establishment or society in general would be willing to let me take a third option.

The people who came up with the term "transgender" in the first place advocated it as an umbrella term including things ranging from transsexuality to crossdressing. (It's not usually used that way nowadays, but that was the intention.) So, nope, try again with your ~by nature~ argument.

If someone tells you to "just stop being dysphoric" or that it's wrong of you to fel that way, yes, they're being a dick. If you insist everyone experience their transness the same way as you, you are also being a dick.

THB I don't get the idea of gender fluid. I'm a girl and I almost entirely wear clothes marketed towards men, like hobbies considered masculine, and spend most of my time in male oriented spaces. I still very much consider myself a girl. It seems like it would be more useful to ungender certain things rather than fighting with people about special snowflake labels.

I'm a bit wary of this sort of logic, precisely because it makes sense to me. Male and female aren't things that really make sense to me--you might say they don't exist in my little world. But they clearly exist to and are extremely important to many other people, and I can't say that's wrong or not real. I think the idea of what is and isn't a valid identity is best left to the people who think in the manner that would allow for that identity.

Re: Complain about other websites

(Anonymous) 2014-05-04 12:49 am (UTC)(link)
Agreed. The entire concept of 'genderfluid' seems to be based on societal gender roles and presentation and honestly it comes off as a sort of 'I'm not not those OTHER girls' sort of thing.

I'm not body-dysphoric but I am transgender, and I don't give a damn if you believe me or not.

how is this transphobic, exactly? I mean, if they want to identity as trans, is this really something they fear?

More words not being used correctly!

That is... not at all what demigirl means. It's the closest thing to describe my gender identity, and the best way I can describe it is that I try to say I'm agender but it feels wrong, like I would feel messed up if I made my body androgynous, but I don't identify as female either because that also feels wrong. And it's not a matter of personality either because I'm actually really "girly", I just don't feel like I'm being honest if I tell people I'm a girl.

The definition taken from urban Dictionary (which really isn't that good a source) is:
A transtrender is a person who identifies as male or female but does not experience any gender dysphoria. It can also mean someone who identifies as male or female because they think it's trendy/cool.

Re: Complain about other websites

Oh my god, so much this. There's so many people who think that it makes them a special snowflake if they declare that they're now trans. I know that there really are people who are experiencing gender dysphoria, but so many people cry trans that it's hard to believe if they are or not.
