na

It is, but almost everyone here bitches about terrible fic or dumb people in fandom so I'm not sure how it's anymore rude than most of the things that go on here. Embrace your bitchiness; let it flourish

He stopped. He could hear footsteps. Not the slow shuffling of the things but quick tiny footsteps that were headed right for them. Jean and Marco stared at each other in confusion. They cautiously looked inside.

There was another dark shape coming out of the darkness but it was quicker, smaller. Just inside the pool of pale light streaming in through the shopfront door was the little toy car and a small pale hand reached out of the shadows to grab it. Now that the figure was just within the light Jean could see it was (used to be) a little boy about the age of four, its round face covered by a mop of reddish brown curls. It was hunched over, rolling the toy in its hands.

Marco looked at Jean with wide eyes. Jean refused to look back, setting his jaw stubbornly. He tapped his walking stick lightly against the doorframe to get its attention. It looked up.

“Oh god.” Marco gasped, clasping a hand over his mouth.

Its lower jaw was gone, torn away by a savage bite that had left bloody trails across its cheeks. What was left was a gaping red hole that dripped near-black blood down its shirt, marring the picture of a cartoon tiger, down onto the white toes of its sneakers. One of its eyes was rotted and milky white but the other was a mottled red that stared right at them. No one moved.

Then suddenly a deep rasping gurgle came from its throat and it ran towards them, dropping the toy car. Jean readied his walking stick but Marco stared in horror, breath catching in his chest as the icepick trembled in his hands.

Just as the child thing crossed the threshold Jean whipped out the walking stick and yanked, sending the thing tumbling to the floor with a loud thump. He swore under his breath; he’d yanked too hard. The wretched thing was already squirming to its feet and he held it down with the stick. It hissed and spat like a wild animal and it took all of his strength just to pin it down.

“Now, Marco!” Jean whispered.

Marco didn’t move.

Re: Bread

(Anonymous) 2014-05-08 03:14 am (UTC)(link)
the Big Sky Bread Company makes an organic three-seed bread that's pretty good, though it can be dry. It's a franchise, with stores in a lot of states.

Rudi's Organic Bakery makes a Harvest Seeded bread, a Spelt & Ancient Grains bread that also has flax, sesame, and sunflower seeds, and a Super Seeded bread with 6 different kinds (they don't say what they are). Here's the website--see if there's a distributor near you. (They make gluten-free stuff too.)

http://www.rudisbakery.com

IDK, these are the main ones I can reliably get in my part of Iowa. If there's a co-op in your vicinity and you have a way to store bulk purchases, it might be worth your while to make a pilgrimage there now and then to stock up.

They have some cute moments spread out over the season. (Oh, and another 'love' comment that I forgot. Seriously, THREE OF THEM NOW.)

The bomb episode is totally worth watching though. You get a little insight into Danny's thought process and there's plenty of Steve/Danny stuff to keep you happy. (There's even a super small Grace hugging Steve scene, and I adore those. Yessss for uncle!Steve!) It was one of the better episodes of the show in quite a while, and I know episode 21 (which I haven't watched yet, but have been slightly spoiled for) has tons of Steve whump and ends with a Steve/Danny scene, so you might be interested in that, too.

I love you. You made me laugh so I love you.

(Anonymous) 2014-05-08 03:16 am (UTC)(link)
Ooh, trades, yeah. Forgot about that too. When you see the numbers for a book, it doesn't include the trade-waiters, which a lot of people do these days because let's face it--trades are cheaper, easier to organize and store, don't have ads (usually) and it's easier to read or lend out a whole story arc.

But it's just ridonk that digital sales aren't factored in. I don't get digital comics myself (don't have an e-reader, don't really want to use my computer), but I think it's just fantastic that they're so available. I remember how hard it was getting comics before I could drive myself to the comic shop, and how intimidating it was to go into some shops, and some towns that didn't even have a decent comic shop. Digital availability is fantastic and makes comics more accessible to new readers.

Yeah, we have some really get fanartists around! I do write but um, I wouldn't say it's quality stuff, haha. I've written The Mirror on ao3 and I have a couple of long fics in the works, but they're on hold until my exams are over.

op again

(Anonymous) 2014-05-08 03:18 am (UTC)(link)
you're also incorrect in why he's named nick fury. it turned out to be his legal birth name, so he took it even though he knew himself as marcus johnson his whole life. it wasn't him taking his father's name as a legacy ala james bond or whatever.

I just saw this movie last night! It's from The Architect (2006), with Viola Davis and Anthony di Paglia!

It's an intense movie. I think the character's name Mr. Stan is kissing is called Shawn, I can't recall the actor.

I thought so.

Naaaaaawwwww, this thread has been fun. No arguments. Plus, take advice from someone whose secret count is in the hundreds, there's always gonna be unexpected reactions to your secrets. You're never gonna get every word in it right for everyone. So don't worry. Calling it a crack ship is fine.

If you've got a Costco near you, I highly recommend Inkeeper's 8 grain bread. I'm a little puzzled that you don't have ANY options, though.

I don't either, unless that person is Loki. Because as mentioned, I like Loki, but at some point Marvel has to 'let him go' (at least for a while), so I would be fine with them killing him off. (Though I stand by my comments about how he should have 'really' died in TDW and stayed dead for at least a few films because then when he returned he and Thor could actually work together instead of fighting each other again. Oh Marvel...)

Maybe they'll kill one of the new characters they're introducing. All I know is it better not be Steve Rogers. I will cut a bitch.

Re: op

(Anonymous) 2014-05-08 03:25 am (UTC)(link)
Well, if you write something that indicates you don't know what you're talking about, then it's a reasonable assumption.

I'm confused by your mindset. They made Marcus a "Nick Fury" clone? But...he was always supposed to be Nick Fury. That was his origin story. Fury is a big part of the movies, so naturally they'd want to pull that into the main 'verse. He's not a clone of the white Nick Fury. But he's not a "clone" of movie!Fury either. He's just...movie!Fury in the comics.

I dunno, it seems as weird to me as saying that the Harley Quinn in the comics is just a clone of the DCAU Harley Quinn. They made a media jump, is all.

Re: Advice?

(Anonymous) 2014-05-08 03:26 am (UTC)(link)
Speaking as another ace, I don't think you have a crush. You might like a certain ship dynamic in fan-fiction because it's familiar and comfortable to you, not because you have feelings for the person it reminds you of. Most of us are subconsciously attracted to people who are similar to our parental figures, but that doesn't mean we desire sexual relationships with our family.

I agree with the above anon concerning possessiveness: If you're very close to someone, the thought of being replaced can make us panic and cling. As long as you don't let it get out of control, jealousy and/or possessiveness in that situation is understandable. I would consider setting aside some time to hang out with this friend, if only to reassure yourself that you're still a part of each others' lives. You could also try to befriend his girlfriend if you haven't already.

You're not being a moron, OP. You've just worked yourself up over something miniscule, probably because you deeply value your relationship with your friend and don't want to lose it.

Re: Fic etiquette question

[personal profile] crunchysunrises 2014-05-08 03:27 am (UTC)(link)
Honestly, I think it's in terrible taste, and wonder why you can't just write your own fic. Borrowing an idea/premise is one thing. No two people will write them the same way. Borrowing an entire work is something else entirely, especially if the fic writer turns up and cries havoc.

There's a reason they say to steal from your betters, not your peers.

Additionally, I'm not really convinced that you put much effort into finding this fic writer.

I saw that you say that she's deleted her website and her LJ hasn't been updated since 2011, but, honestly, that's not much effort. People switch content providers all the time, and she may have had a falling out with LJ that means no access to the account, either in terms of updating or deleting it. (Don't laugh! That happened to me!) Or maybe she got sick of LJ and left without closing shop. Try looking for her on other, more popular platforms before declaring open season on her work.

And seriously consider doing your own riff off of the fic elements that you liked, rather than annexing it to yourself. Some people won't mind. Others will cry plagiarism and get you tossed from wherever you're posting.

(Anonymous) 2014-05-08 03:28 am (UTC)(link)
I will absolutely take retiring a character (meaning that character is at least still around, or still exists in terms of the story universe) over the crap DC's been pulling where when they want to update a character they just literally recreate everything about them but the name and then say it's the same character (meaning that you'll never see the old character again ever).

Re: Fic etiquette question

(Anonymous) 2014-05-08 03:30 am (UTC)(link)
I also have a fic etiquette question:

I began to read a fic (about 2 chapters in and that was all). The (I think) cliched plot line (i.e. arranged marriage to a god) is the main idea as far as I read. I felt the plot line could have had more potential if the OC had been used better (i.e. not acting like a 14 y/o) and was inspired to "re write" the fic---i.e. change everything but use the "arranged marriage to a god" plot. If ever posted, would it be proper to notify the original author that their story inspired this sort of remake/re-write and ask if they'd be okay with me posting it (obviously linking their original fic throughout). Or is that too much?

I feel like I would let them know their plot inspired my story (and I would link them as well)...but....what say you, FS?

*chances are this will not ever be posted, btw*

It is indeed Bones, and thank you. I think I'm one of maybe five people that actually likes the pairing. Whoops. *blush*

Re: op

(Anonymous) 2014-05-08 03:33 am (UTC)(link)
except it's not just a media jump, and your comparison makes no sense.

when they introduced harley quinn in the comics, she was the same character from the show, albeit maybe a little darker. she wasn't replacing anyone.

the nick fury in the movies is nick fury. he's not the son of the real nick fury, ala nick fury jr.

here they're creating a new character who looks like the movie version to replace the original pre-existing character the movie version was based on.
