Re: Problems that don't sound like problems
Good luck! It sucks to have to eat foods you don't really want/enjoy.
Re: Problems that don't sound like problems
So basically my doctor said to eat as much high-calorie stuff as I can, don't worry about the nutritional balance for the time being - just get calories down so I don't lose more weight. Which means that every time I don't actively feel nauseated I'm trying to choke down something that's probably heavily processed and sweet while I have the chance. :P (And as for fiber, some of my digestive problems went away when I basically cut all significant sources of dietary fiber... so yeah. I miss vegetables and whole grains. ;_;)
I mean I'm getting so desperate for high-calorie stuff that is not sweet that I've started eating spoonfuls of spicy mayo. Which for some reason actually keeps the nausea at bay for a little while, so I can eat a little more. Bizarre.
Re: Problems that don't sound like problems
Now i feel like i need to go research high-calorie foods that aren't candy.
Hope you can find something to ease the nausea. Is pot not an option?
Re: Problems that don't sound like problems
And yeah, I know about weight training powders, and Ensure/Boost/etc.. They fill me up too easily, and then I can't eat ANYTHING for the rest of the day and I feel bloated. :/
Re: Problems that don't sound like problems
I wish I could be clever and think of something really spiffy to help but...i can't. I hope you find something that *does* work and makes you feel better!
Re: Problems that don't sound like problems
But I do appreciate that people care enough to try.
In fact if I had local friends instead of internet friends, I probably could get a few joints. But I'm an extreme introvert who has preferred online socializing over face-to-face since the days of the local BBSes, pre-internet, so it's not like I have local pot-smoking friends. Just online. -_- I suspect that it would be like when I was prescribed Valium though - it made me so chill about everything that I started getting paranoid whenever I took it because "omg what if something's wrong and I can't tell?!" and it wound up PROMPTING anxiety attacks rather than relaxing me, hahaha.
Re: Problems that don't sound like problems
See what happens when you live on the Interwebz? You can't get the good drugs! *snerk*
Re: Problems that don't sound like problems
The Valium... I warned the doctor in advance I was sensitive to chemicals, so he prescribed me the smallest dosage tablet they make. I got home, and instead of taking it like that, broke it in quarters. And could still feel the effects within half an hour, and each time I took it they lasted longer, to the point where I would feel wonky for the next day without taking it at the prescribed times. Given how much that affected me, there was no way I was going to take a HIGHER dose...
Suffice to say I am just looking forward to robot bodies. GET ON IT, SCIENCE.

(Anonymous) 2014-06-05 05:09 am (UTC)(link)If you've never made whipped cream, be careful on your first try. Whip it just a little too much and you end up with butter.
How about broccoli with cheese melted on it? Or anything with cheese melted on it, actually.
Re: Problems that don't sound like problems
But due to the problem I seem to have with fiber, the dressing is the only thing there I can actually tolerate. :/
And the same means I can't have fruit, and I'm lactose intolerant so cream/whipping cream and cheese is something I can only have in very very small amounts. (I do sometimes eat a single spoonful of cheese dip. And suffer the consequences, but cheese is so good and I get so tired of sweets. ;_;)
So yeah. Like I said before, not looking for advice here - this has been going on in my life for almost 30 years, and it's very unlikely anyone here can provide a solution that I haven't already tried/thought about. I appreciate that people try, though. I was just answering the OP's question about problems that most people think are not problems, with "I need to GAIN weight, and I wish I could just eat a salad instead of candy."

(Anonymous) 2014-06-05 03:05 pm (UTC)(link)That actually makes perfect sense to me but I don't know how to go about explaining why. It almost sounds like your stomach is producing too much acid, and spicy/acidic things neutralize it for a bit.
Have you ever tried taking a shot of apple cider vinegar before eating?
Re: Problems that don't sound like problems
(Anonymous) 2014-06-05 03:07 pm (UTC)(link)Aw crap, I just saw how you're not looking for advice. Sorry; I hope this doesn't come across as presumptuous. :-/
Re: Problems that don't sound like problems
Apple cider vinegar was one of the top suggestions, but I can't stand the taste of it - it tastes too much like beer for my liking. So I use straight lemon juice or grapefruit juice instead most of the time, or a spoonful of mustard or pickle juice, since those are mostly vinegar. And it's really only the apple cider variety I can't stand, due to the beery taste. Sometimes I'll wake up feeling like complete crap, make myself down a shot of 100% white grapefruit juice (no cocktail!), and after about 10-15 minutes I can actually eat a few bites of something that ISN'T highly acidic.
(As I noted, I've been at this for awhile, done tons of research, tried many many things... which is the only reason I'm shooting people's suggestions down. I really do appreciate that people are trying to help. I just honestly don't think there's a whole lot of advice/theories left by this time that I haven't already heard and/or tried. =))
Re: Problems that don't sound like problems
(Anonymous) 2014-06-14 11:56 pm (UTC)(link)You might have already tried this, but do appetizer vinegars also make you sick? There are these vinegars (often fruity, but not always) that are pretty mild, so you can basically just drink them straight, or mix them with water/soda, depending on how high your tolerance acid tolerance is. If you can tolerate acidic foods/drinks it might at least help with your drinking problem (you mentioned upthreat that you also can't really drink stuff).
Are you fine with lactose-free diery? I once had lactose-free mozzarella (or something close to it) drenched in balsamico. The balsamico basically masks everything, so it tasted nice enough, and I think that would be high-calorie as well?
