02) Pe...people actually ship Maya/Sylar? I thought the fandom hated Maya too much to even entertain the concept. O.O;;
36) Ha ha, awesome. Every time I see a hawk I think it's Tobias, too.

I have a strong suspicion. but then again, there must be others who don't like the ga, right?

A bit late to the party, but...

Oh god, I cry every time I watch that movie -- not just because of optimus, but so many awesome characters die in the span of about 10 minutes.

I was heartbroken when I first saw it as a kid.

24. What does age have to do with it. I'm kind of offended that you imply people who are out of high school are unintelligent for enjoying fandom. I don't know about you, but just because I'm part of fandom, doesn't mean I spend every waking moment concentrating on it.

32. The thing about that movie is that they re-edited it to "make it less gay" for DVD. There ended up being a whole version that I actually thought showed the true nature of the relationship really well. And then family defense groups got pissed off.

36. I think of Tobias every time I see a Hawk, as well. Especially when they're in places like poles next to highways. It's like he's on the lookout.

37. I have always been able to ship anything. But with Heroes I more ship relationships, and not romance. Like, I adore the Nathan and Peter dynamic. But not in a romantic way.

39. I actually kind of found that movie a little boring. Sure, it was sweet and made my heart hurt, but it was just so unrealistic/out there. I kind of think it's one of those movies you enjoy in the moment and then promptly forget about.

I fucking LOVE YOU.

I decided I'm gonna try and convince whatever husband I have in the future to name the kid Tobias if we have a boy. Solely because of that series.

11. Hey, it's Hanners! :D QC is great. I used to be a bit like her when I was younger (hypochondriac, a bit of a recluse unless my friends dragged me somewhere, etc.).

22. This post, combined with the one about the Star Wars books last post, seriously annoy me in their assumption that everyone must take every aspect of fandom to the same level of seriousness. I know a lot of people who are intelligent and mature enough to realize that their interpretation of fantasy-world mechanics does not equate to "how it really works" according to the author, but that doesn't mean it can't be discussed/debated. For fun. Lower level of cognition? That's downright insulting to the people who would rather take their interest in a fandom beyond what the creators provide. There are those that take it to extremes and cause drama by insisting their interpretation is the only possible one, but that's only some people. Ugh.

36. Tobias! <3 I love birds of prey so much. This secret is one of the most original, grin-inducing ones I've seen in a long time. More like this, please? :P

Just made my day, knowing I am not alone in this.

*laughs*

I'm a thirty-something---I'm sure you have an opinion on that, too---and fyi, in my spare time I actually am curing cancer. I work as a biologist at a pharmaceutical company, and I "fuck around" in fandom (as well as with many other hobbies) in my (fleeting) spare time.

What exactly are you doing with your life, besides being in high school and being a judgmental little twit?

6. I'm going to go against what everyone said. Fandom does have an impact on what a person can think about a series. For me, my ability to enjoy a series often relies heavily on interactions with other fans of it. Just ignoring it isn't an option for me.

36. I feel like the only person who doesn't have fond memories of Animorphs.

I realize this comes kind of late and I hope you'll get a chance to read this, but I am the OP of the original Envy secret.

My point wasn't necessarily about goodfic vs. badfic as much as Envy fandom mentality as a whole. And actually (I could be a little more general) overall FMA fandom. So many people enter the FMA fandom with this fanbrat mentality of "Omg Edo is so hawt!!111" and "lol Envy palmtree!11" and they don't realize that um... more is going on in the series than that. I mean sure, it's awesome to enjoy fangirly moments and all, but seriously. Maybe I'm just being elitist, but this is an awesome series and I wish more people could enjoy it for what it is, not for how much canon-rape they can inflict on it.

My point (and maybe I'm just biased because Envy is my favorite character and I notice it more) is that Envy seems to get the short end of the stick here as oppose to say, Winry or Roy or Havoc (although they can be written OOC, too). In my experience, a lot of Havoc fans like Havoc for who he is IC. Envy has a lot of fans, but a lot of them (note: "a lot", not "all") like him for all the wrong reasons and that's a bitch when you're one of the minority who fell in love with the vulnerable, violent, angry, bastard that he is. Yes, I see it in fic. I also see it in art, discussion, and in general attitude. And yes, I am rightfully going to be bothered by it. Sometimes fandom really does get on my nerves and guess what? I have the right to bitch.

It gets tiring when 85% of the time when I say to someone, "I like Envy!" and they reply "I like Envy too!" I realize that we're not talking about the same Envy. At all. Not all of fandom is like that, but holy crap.

Sure, it's always a positive thing to write for a particular fandom. But you're missing the point that one person can't really change the fandom unless it's a relatively small one, which FMA is not, or unless you're a BNF (which I'm not).

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I think you're assuming too much about me. You're assuming that I've never written Envy fic, that I've apparently left fandom, etc. I don't know. Maybe I just wasn't very clear?

In any case, your overall hurtful attitude about it kind of made me want to stay away from that end of the fandom even more, so thanks.

2. Sorry, we'll just ship Mohinder/Sylar/Maya instead. (Or at least that's what I do. SO. MUCH. PRETTEH.)

The wank of Heroes is, in my opinion, often found in the Zachary Quinto fandom and around the people who like to throw around words like "misogynist" and "racist". And I love it, except when it scares me. Which it does often. You may wish to search there.

23. Me too.

37. Okay!

lol, I'm not really in the Heroes fandom but I agree on Hiro/Ando. Their friendship's cute enough as it is, leave it :P Hiro's "Ando-kun!" is adorable as is, no need to take it any further~

23. I WEEP WITH YOU. I mean, wtf???? I had no closure! Norrington was like...the main bad guy in the first movie, and pretty darn important in the second! We totally got left hanging. That's just bad writing, important rich film guys.

norrington was never a 'bad guy'

22 - Pretty-looking words for a simple distinction, but not one I think is entirely fair.

If you're correct what, then, would be the cognitive ability of those who acknowledge both the 'universes' of fictional creations, and strict narrative conventions?

Both have their merits, because whilst adhering to narrative form, a universe still has to make a certain amount of sense. Too many plot-holes and badly-realised concepts (yes, that includes dragons) can actually weaken the narrative. In my mind, there has to be a balance between the two; creativity and the mechanics of fiction.
