I've only ever heard the term 'breeders' used by a) gay men and b) childfree people. I've never heard a SJW use it.

But that's just my personal experience.

I personally would love to see the fireworks display of wank that would result from a member of Group A using it to refer to a member of Group B.

I have seen it on occasion. I used to hang around on childfree boards more a few years back.

I must tell you, though ..the wank is sort of under-impressive. It's usually just a bit of "don't call me that", very rarely "but we came up with that word". But the thing is the two groups overlap, and often tend to make pretty good allies because they're both used to having their lifestyle and relationships criticized, and because they tend to have more in common with each other than families with kids.

me too. but the meaning of SJW went from people who use social justice to score brownie points and lord their superiority over other people to any person who mentions social justice at all, so what do you expect.

(Anonymous) 2014-07-15 09:15 pm (UTC)(link)
i've yet to meet an sjw who /doesn't/ lord their superiority over other people

I've seen it once or twice. But it usually gets shot down when people point out the it's fucking terrible.

yeah, the only people I've ever heard it from have been the super crazy hyper-childfree who find the existence of children a personal insult. You know, the kind who refer to kids as "crotch fruit" and the like. I don't think I've heard, say, tumblrite SJ types use it.

is "breeders" an SJW thing now? I thought it was still just used by really annoying childfree people

(Anonymous) 2014-07-14 11:07 pm (UTC)(link)
who/what is that picture?

[personal profile] mekkio 2014-07-14 11:29 pm (UTC)(link)
It's from Clive Barker's Nightbreed. That character is Decker played by none other than David Cronenberg, himself. Think of the movie like a nightmare version of X-Men.

Whoa, is this a Nightbreeders reference? Hold on, off to google. Holy cow, it is!!! Very cool.

(Anonymous) 2014-07-15 12:06 am (UTC)(link)
As others have mentioned, I've never seen an SJW use "breeder" in regards to straight people. Just the rabid child-free groups.

I would say it wouldn't make any sense for them to use it since gay people can breed just fine, but then, some SJWs also have the whole "cis-scum" thing going, even though most gay people are also cis.

(Anonymous) 2014-07-15 06:17 am (UTC)(link)
It used to be a fairly common way for gay people to refer to straight people (and especially bisexuals in a straight relationship). Doesn't happen so much these days. /old lesbian

(Anonymous) 2014-07-15 01:12 am (UTC)(link)
i thought that term was used mostly as a joke

(Anonymous) 2014-07-15 02:33 am (UTC)(link)
What about straight people who don't have kids? Or straight people who adopt kids?

I don't know about SJWs, but according to Childfree usage, it is used as an epithet for bad parents (as well as parents who have lots of children). If used about the quality of parenting, it could get allied to adoptive parents as well, and let's face it, unless the adopted child is a different race to their adoptive parent, a CF person is not going to know they're adopted if the mother and child are random strangers. All the CF person will see is a noisy child in public with a mother who can't or won't handle it to their standards and their mind will instantly jump to "Bad parent!".

What is even with this comment.

Calling someone a breeder is pretty disgusting regardless of how it is meant.

(Anonymous) 2014-07-15 04:57 am (UTC)(link)
The problem is this doesn't just apply to straight people. You don't have to be heterosexual to reproduce, so using "breeders" as an insult demeans people who aren't straight who might make the choice to have children. There are better ways to make fun of straight people.

(Anonymous) 2014-07-15 05:01 am (UTC)(link)
the only people allowed to reclaim words like "fag" and "tranny" (or at least I'm assuming that's the one you meant since "trans" hasn't really ever been a slur) are the people who belong to those groups. straight and/or cis people who say them are generally side eyed. so if you're talking about reclaiming words then wouldn't that mean that only straight people should be allowed to use the word "breeder" (ignoring the fact that straight people are the only ones who can reproduce, as pointed out by another anon)

Also, "breeder" is just a pretty degrading term in general, especially towards women.

'Breeders' is being referred to as a SJW thing now as well?
