Wow you must hate me, I still haul out my old master system and genesis and unironically enjoy the games for them. You don't need the latest gear to be a gamer. Anyone who plays any computer game of any sort, from the latest superduper hacked and tricked out console and PC to the simplest 80s little dinky handheld which is only for one game, is a real gamer.

*If they want anyway, they don't have to. it isn't compulsory or anything.

Define "current gen console". I have a PS3, because I'll buy the PS4 when I want to play a game on it and not before; am I therefore not a real gamer anymore? Did PS3/Xbox 360 owners become "not real gamers" when the Wii U came out?

You're right, OP. I still own a 360 and pretty much use it for watching TV. If I were a serious gamer anymore, I would have gotten an XBox One or PS4 by now.

Only, that total bullshit. There are so many games made for some consoles, you could spend years just playing through the backlog if you're so inclined. You might not be up-to-date, but it's ludicrous to presume someone is not a "gamer" just because s/he plays games that are several years old. That being said, a lot of the older consoles are actually nicer for some types of gamers (I.e. those who are solitary gamers and don't want to wave their arms around). I'll take an XBox 360 over an XBox One any day of the week, and well as a DS over a 3DS (I'm just not fonnd of the 3D) and don't even get me started on the Wii.

Eh, I think you went a little far here, but I understand the sentiment. I'm sure you're still a real gamer if you didn't go out and buy a PS4 or Xbone at launch, or your library is a couple of years behind, but... if the last game you played was Super Mario World and the last system you owned was a SNES in the fourth grade... or the last PC game you bothered with was Starcraft in middle school... yeah, you're not a gamer anymore, bro. Maybe you were one, once. You sure ain't now.
