I dislike companions who like the Doctor in a romantic way. That's my main reason for disliking her.

Regardless of the Internet hate, or the characters in and of themselves, Eleven and all his companions were robbed by the lousy writing. It was worse than Six!

I liked Clara. I think that the writing for her was pretty meh. But Jenna is super charming. We'll see how the writing for her is in series 8 though.

I like the idea of a more ordinary companion too, but the thing that bothers me about Clara is that she seems very girl-next-door in a male fantasy way. She's beautiful (I don't know how you define "strikingly beautiful" but Jenna Coleman is very much above average in the looks department), smart in a non threatening way, and created specifically to be all things to the Doctor. Your secret even said it: "just for him". That feels a little icky to me, like someone's fantasy about how they want their future girlfriend to be and not much thought given to how it's only fantasy and not a real person with their own thoughts, feelings and needs.

It's amazing to me that you're going to call a character a "girl-next-door in a male fantasy way" and you're going to do it to the companion AFTER Amy.

I mean, don't get me wrong here, I like both Clara and Amy, it's not a competition. But IMO Amy fits that description a lot more than Clara. I mean, sure, you could argue that it's different because she's not into the Doctor, but given that she's into the average doofy everyman character instead, it's not much of a difference.

I'd like her more if she looked less like she was taking time off from defeating Voldemort to help the Doctor. Never mind her teaching at a school, most of the time she looks like she ought to be attending one.

I don't hate her, I just think she's boring and there wasn't anything about her to make her stand apart. Just another pretty, witty, young white female companion in a long line of the same. I wish she'd just been Victorian Clara, she would have been fun.

I'd try watching DW again if they introduced a non-contemporary companion for a run. Or if they didn't fit that demographic you just mentioned.

Wooooow, are we even remotely watching the same show?

I don't like how boring she is, like a bunch of comments have stated already. She doesn't do anything. She doesn't. Her story of jumping into his DNA timeline and trying to help and that's why there are so many versions of her doesn't make any sense. The only reason she was in the first episode (modern Clara, not governess Clara) was because she was magically given the ability to understand computers when she couldn't even figure out wifi. All she seems to do is follow the Doctor around and make generally annoying comments.

Hoping next season she'll be written better. ...Still annoyed she's a teacher I cannot see or understand that at all.

I was no fan of Eleven before her but with her I find the show almost painful to watch. I actually hate her harder than I hated Martha at first.

I liked her a lot in the episode about the little girl who sang. In that episode she was like the person you describe. But it was like she was a different person in every other episode to the point that I finally stopped watching.

I love her, if for no other reason than that she's not the Ponds. God, I couldn't get through their shit fast enough. Also, I find her charming and adorable in a sincere way. So fuck the haters. Finally a companion I like for herself.
