[tw: suicide anon again]
(Anonymous) 2014-07-19 08:24 pm (UTC)(link)Well...good news is that the random nausea is mostly gone. It still hits occasionally, but I find taking the med with food helps. And I have noticed an improvement in my mood, too.
The only thing now is that I've had a near-constant headache for over a week. Moderate to severe, on one side of the head. I've gotten these before I ever took the medication, and it's gone away somewhat since my period started so I think it might be hormone related, but I'm not sure.
Also, I feel like this period is heavier than normal, but I may just be imagining things because I'm actually looking for side effects.
So I guess my question is if anybody else here who has been on Zoloft has had experience with severe headaches and possibly wonky periods as side effects?

Still discontinued it because I didn't need anymore moodiness than I already have.
Re: [tw: suicide anon again]
(Anonymous) 2014-07-19 09:49 pm (UTC)(link)It also makes my blood pressure go up about 40 systolic points, and 20 dystolic. I think that's what causes my Zoloft headaches (especially since the only thing it responds to is aspirin).
With the periods, I'm not really the one to ask, because mine got incredibly heavy after a five-year stint of not having one at all after a head injury. So I'm on a continuous regiment of progesterone, which stops my periods altogether now.

(Anonymous) 2014-07-20 12:26 am (UTC)(link)I think they mess with your blood pressure? That can give you headaches. (My experience is only with decongestants, and trying to find the right one that will A) let me breathe without B) making me feel like I want to die.)

(Anonymous) 2014-07-19 11:42 pm (UTC)(link)I agree with the others in that it sounds like migraines. If you got them before you started taking medicine, I'd wager that while the meds might affect it (make it better/worse/different) it may be independent from them, rather than a side effect.
When are you seeing your doctor next? If you can, definitely try to talk to them about it. If that's difficult, I'm pretty sure there are some sites where you can talk to doctors online, but I'm afraid they'd only be able to give you suggestions and would probably just tell you to talk to your doctor in person... hm. Either way, I definitely agree with the suggestion to talk to your doctor. I know it's a hassle, but if it can make the headaches go away, it will be worth it.
In the meantime (I hope nobody yells at me for suggesting this), you could maybe try some natural "treatment", see if that helps? I'm hesitant to recommend taking any kind of migraine medication since I'm definitely not qualified for that, but things like green or black tea, ginger, peppermint, feverfew, etc. are all touted as being helpful. It may be worth it to see if anything like that helps.
I hope you feel better soon. Let us know. ♥

(Anonymous) 2014-07-20 12:34 am (UTC)(link)Antacids can do this, too; by reducing the amount of acid in your stomach, any meds you take get absorbed a hundredfold into your bloodstream. Don't ask me how I know this, I really don't want to relive that particularly unpleasant experience.
But, yeah, anon, talk to your pharmacist, if you can. Can you phone the drugstore from work?
Re: [tw: suicide anon again]
And in general, Anon, I'm glad you're still here and checking in with us. *hugs if wanted*
Re: [tw: suicide anon again]
(Anonymous) 2014-07-20 01:59 am (UTC)(link)But well...with my history, I don't like taking that much Tylenol.
Re: [tw: suicide anon again]
The kind of headache you're describing does sound a whole lot like a progesterone sensitive hemiplegic migraine, as others have sort of already suggested, only without the aura that usually accompanies it. If that's the case it might just be the result of you hitting the tail end of your menstrual cycle, however it is definitely something to speak to your doctor about, especially if it continues.
On the off chance it's related to blood pressure, I'd be a bit worried that you're only experiencing pain in one hemisphere. Again, especially if the headaches continue and are coming on suddenly, it's worth talking to your psychiatrist about. Until then, make sure you're staying well hydrated. I'm assuming you're somewhere in North America or Europe, so drink some extra water to compensate for the heat and some extra again to compensate for the effects of your meds.
