Weird Food Quirks

[personal profile] jaybie_jarrett 2014-08-02 10:44 pm (UTC)(link)
Does anyone else like making a tuna salad with tuna, mayo, honey mustard, mustard, shredded cheese and lettuce (and sometimes chein po dried noodle things for some crunch) . My Dad thinks its gross (but to be fair I think his salads are pretty gross too).

Anybody else have any weird food combos they like?

I eat salt on watermelons, pepper on cantaloupes, and sugar on tomatoes. I don't think it's weird, but I've had enough people comment on it that I acknowledge it must be.

How is putting salt on watermelon weird? The other stuff, yeah, but that one isn't weird.

I kinda want to put salt on a strawberry...just to see what it would taste like.

I've heard of salt one water melon.

I prefer to have tomato sauces (like pasta sauces) just a little bit sweet and will put some sugar in them. Same with tomato soup too.

I also put a little bit of salt in my lemon tea.

I like tartar sauce for french fries. Heck I like tartar sauce on baked ham! I recently discovered I could add tuna to a frozen food meal for extra protein. Amy's Kitchen Mushroom Risotto. The tuna plus a little cheese (either a Babybel thing or Laughing Cow Cheese Wedge) and it tastes pretty darn good!

I ordered a cheeseburger last week with grilled onions and mustard (they put both ketchup and mustard on it but it was fine). My dad said he could never add onions or mustard to a burger.

Ohh.

My burgers have a patty , American cheese, ketchup, mustard, lettuce, and sometimes onion. and sometimes bacon.

What!!!!!!!

Onions and mustard are top-tier burger toppings. They're absolutely necessary. Burger, cheese, onions, and mustard is a great, classic combo. Can't believe this nonsense I'm hearing right now.

..Weird. The default fast food hamburger when I was growing up always had ketchup/pickle/mustard/onion. I hated onions so my mom would always have to ask them for a burger without onions, and we'd wind up sitting at the drive-thru while they put one together for me - or if we were in a rush, we'd just order the standard burger and I'd have to scrape the onions off... which sucked, because it meant most of the ketchup and mustard went with it, and occasionally I'd miss an onion chunk and bite into that nasty onion texture. Ugh, even thinking about it makes me cringe.

I don't like mustard on burgers at all. I like it on pastrami sandwiches though.

That sounds really good except for the mayo. I can't stand any amount of mayonnaise.

I can't really think of any food quirks of mine. Some people think it's weird that I eat fries with mustard instead of ketchup (can't stand ketchup either).

Re: Weird Food Quirks

[personal profile] jaybie_jarrett 2014-08-02 11:10 pm (UTC)(link)
Ah. I'm actually not a fan of mayo myself but I've always used it on canned tuna to make it stick in clumps. Then it just became habit. Usually the mustard+honey mustard overpowers it and drowns it out.

Peanut butter and... well, used to be sriracha, but sriracha has garlic in it and now I can't have garlic. So now I have peanut butter and sambal oelek, since that's pretty much sriracha without the garlic and with the seeds still in it.

Sambal oelek/sriracha is also really good with dark chocolate, I've found.

Back when I could have apples and bread, these were awesome ways to top apple slices or to make sandwiches, but now I just dip the spoon in the peanut butter, then in the sambal oelek.

Also lately I'm digging pickles with mustard. So vinegary... :D

I like ketchup, but not that much. I vastly prefer tabasco/other kinds of hot sauce. So anything most people put ketchup on, I'll reach for the ketchup bottle. Apparently people find this weirdest on french fries.
