Oh my god my brother is an anime freak and I always get a creepy hebephilia vibe from him ( and he's a teenager himself, it will be so much worse in a few years brr).
At least I get a lesson out of it: Never trust a man who's into fandom. Like literally every fandom guy I've met woul insist that attraction to little girls is 'natural' and defended said attraction tooth and nail. Oh and the sexism among geek men is unreal. Shared interests aren't worth it. Male geeks are trash.

You sound like you haven't explored anime at all. Might want to expand your horizons a bit because there's some great gems out there. Like Naoki Urasawa's Monster, which I read because it was recommended by Pulitzer Prize winner Junot Díaz.

Naoki Urasawa is absolutely incredible and everyone should his work.

Although... I have to say, he does seem like he's more the exception than the norm. Not that OP is right in any way, but from what I can see anime culture right now does seem to have a bit of a problem with pandering etc.
