Some ground rules:

I came in a bit late myself, season four... I'm sorry it's ending, but at the same time glad it's on a high note. I have to admit I don't love the 2017 thing, but they're making it work.

I guess that is kind of a funny thing...and honestly I hadn't watched it at all until a couple of months ago! I kind of wish I'd been able to go along for the ride instead of having to catch up.

The 2017 thing is a little strange. I'm not gonna lie, I would've liked to see how Leslie handled pregnancy (especially having to take time off. That must have driven her bonkers! I can see her trying to get back to work as quickly as possible and Ben being like, "SLOOOOOWWWW DOOOOOWWWWWN"). At the same time, it's allowed them to poke fun at technology and corporate America in a semi-speculative fiction type of way, which I've liked.

Never watched bob's burgers before, saw the gifsets etc and it looked clever but the animation bugged me.
Watch an episode with my friends and I just...those voices. Why do they all sound awful? Idk i just couldn't watch it I'm sorry, I know it's feminist friendly and a great happy comedy whatever but between the voices and the art style I couldn't do it.

I'm just a bit frustrated by the fact that shipping a non-canon pair means that your criticisms of a canon pairing often get dismissed out of hand because you have an "ulterior motive." Just…a lot of the times, the whole reason I end up shipping a non-canon pair is because the canon pairing did nothing for me. But a lot of people act like you preemptively went in deciding to hate the canon pair (especially if your non-canon ship is slash).

It's very frustrating. And I don't get it either -- even if someone has an ulterior motive, how does that delegitimize their critique?

Not a huge deal but…just one that's a tad irritating and that I see happen across fandoms.

I think it's a good idea. Yes, they're not members of the EBU, but they probably had to pony up a lot of money which puts them in the same position as the other Big Five countries.

Eurovision could use the extra money and press that this generates. Plus I bet their entry will be loads of fun.

Can be platonic or romantic, canon or not canon, likeable or hateable. For me, the mother of all is Mulder and Scully. They can be talking about ectoplasm and they're still melting the screen. That was like a supernatural phenomenon of casting, damn.

Okay, then there's Genie and Tony, Mary and Francis of Reign (got this idea reading through this page), Roseanne and Dan Connor. Chuck and Blair, damn.

Platonic/other I can think of Bonnie and Damon on Vampire Diaries (possibly not-platonic; speak to the Bamon shippers about that), Lucy and Ethel, Veronica and Keith Mars...

There are loads more. I love seeing actors that just mix well. Add you own examples!

What are the small things in fandom that make you smile?

I like it when I reblog a fanwork with no attention and then my followers see it and reblog or like it.

I also like seeing a new person join the fandom and their first few posts are always the cutest, newest excitement of that first step into it (before the start analysing and shipping and are still in the "oh wow i really like this" stage). The cutest enthusiasm.

Movies You Think Ought To Be TV Series

A couple of nights ago I mentioned the Henry Winkler/Michael Keaton movie "Night Shift" which was set in early 80s New York (disgruntled night coroner starts running a sex ring and falls in love with one of the pros) and I mentioned I thought it would make a great tv show if they made it a series. Lots of potential period fun in early 80s New York, the most corrupt city on Earth, with the usual rotten apple tropes, and the angst of this guy whose life is turned upside down and slides almost accidentally into being the city's biggest pimp and how he still manages to be a decent guy. Not to mention a frank look at prostitution in the time period without too much moral outrage.
