In my experience when a group of friends have a fallout over something so small it's usually a signal of something bigger going on. If the disregarded her feelings like that they probably weren't very good friends in the first place, and similarly it'd be interesting to know why she didn't want them to use her OC, specially if exchanging OCs was a common practice among them.

The OC argument was all I could find, but you're likely right there was something else at play.

They did exchange OCs freely before that, now that you mention it.

Same anon.

If they exchanged OCs freely until then, I wonder what was the story behind that. What was different about that particular OC? How did they feel the other two girls when they were told a character was off limit? Idk I can imagine at least three different ways to interpret the whole story. I wish we knew more, now I'm curious.

Hey OP maybe next time you could structure your paragraphs and shit so the eye can follow them

I had to spend a few seconds each chunk figuring out which was the next logical one in the chain you were writing kthx

I wasn't feeling very well while making this secret. In my mind, I just wanted to get it over and done with.

Not the best approach. Sorry.

Lol, and most everyone else can read it fine. Get glasses or learn to read more.

OP, you've already admitted you didn't really know what was going on yet you're judging and acting like you've it all figured out.

Now you come clean and say even your "they were using her OC without permission" theory is bullshit because before that, they freely exchanged OCs with no problem.

Sounds like this secret is all about you putting down these people for no reason at all. Friends sometimes grow apart. So what? But no, these people aren't saints whom you could put on a pedesrsl and aspire to so now they must be demons.

Grow up.

Text: There is this kind of dead fandom I'm into. It does have some fanfic pop up now and then, but the high point of activity has long passed.

One of the popular pairings for it had 3 Big Name Fans:

Sally, Molly and Jessie

Being into the same pairing, they naturally became friends. They made giftfics for each other, reviewed each other, spent time AIMing, you could tell they really got along.

Suddenly, Sally and Molly stopped mentioning Jessie in their author's notes. Jessie did likewise.

At the time, I did not give it much thought, but years later, upon finding Jessie's blog, I found out they had a terrible fallout.

Having kind of admired their fandom friendship, I was sad for them.

Digging deeper, I found out what was the catalyst for the fallout: Molly and Sally used Jessie's OC without her permission in their fics.

She was uncomfortable with this. They did not give a fuck and preferred to torch their friendship than stop and apologize. What The Fuck. (I no longer want a friendship like theirs.)

tl;dr: The fandom friendship I admired was bullshit.

I find it interesting that people judge relationships from the outside or, when they are over, claim that they weren't what they appeared or whatever.

People do this with celebrity relationships (or with other people's marriages) all the time.

Yet only the people in the relationships can say whether or not the relationship was fulfilling for them at the time it existed. And just because a relationship ends does not mean it wasn't meaningful at the time.

Relationships do *not* have to last forever to be good or important.

> Relationships do *not* have to last forever to be good or important.

I don't know. if it ends in a way you don't want (which it frequently does) it can retroactively poison all the time you had together. Like "why did I put all that energy into someone who was just going to screw me."

I think if it were a good relationship, it wouldn't have ended. You end them BECAUSE they're bad.

Dammit. Now, I want to know all about this drama.

They sound like not-so-great people.

(Anonymous) 2015-03-11 12:27 am (UTC)(link)
Yeah, well. Fanfic authors are already using other people's characters without permission. They've no right getting pissy about people essentially fanficcing their fanfic. It is exactly the same as what they are doing to the original creator.

(Anonymous) 2015-03-11 05:49 pm (UTC)(link)
Yes, it's hilarious, and no, they won't see the irony and will become enraged if you point it out.

(Anonymous) 2015-03-11 12:46 am (UTC)(link)
What's the title of this so I can add it? :)

SA

Misfire, sorry!

Huh, that was an interesting piece of old wank, OP.

Of course you won't have the same friendship. You're unique, so it'll be different. Friendships based on fandoms tend to cool down - I've seen it a few times. For example, I still stay in touch with someone via their blog but we don't talk anymore and I'm not sure if she stays in touch with me or is it onesided, haha.

PS, related to a comment up thread: imo, the secret is well structured.

(Anonymous) 2015-03-11 11:26 am (UTC)(link)
don't have much to say on topic, but those drawings are cute, OP :)

(Anonymous) 2015-03-11 05:47 pm (UTC)(link)
I think it's hysterical that a fanfic writer would get upset at someone using one of their characters without permission. Gotta love the irony!

(Anonymous) 2015-03-11 10:51 pm (UTC)(link)
Newsflash: Most people are raging hypocrits.

(Anonymous) 2015-03-11 11:12 pm (UTC)(link)
Yep. Had this happen in my fandom.

Irony is? The character "absconded with" was the main character of the original series!

(This was later explained when the fic was pulled to get the serial numbers filed off. *le sigh* Still, fandom be crazy...)

(Anonymous) 2015-03-12 03:03 am (UTC)(link)
ikr. fanfic writers getting all proprietary over OCs is the highest form of hypocrisy. if you can fic other peoples' stuff, people can fic yours.

(Anonymous) 2015-03-12 12:09 am (UTC)(link)
A lot of fandom friendships can be bullshit, and sadly a lot of them don't extend further than fandom.

Most fandom friendships I've seen just involve a lot of ass-patting and sweet talking.
