Who would you consider a couple with true Epic Love?
Not necessarily the best or healthiest or even having to have a 'happily ever after' at the end. But epic.

he helped bring down a government because he was afraid to lose her and then ended up killing her himself.

Tidus and Yuna from Final Fantasy X. I think they are one of my forever OTPs.

Okay, yea, I agree with this. I got super invested in their romance and thought the ending was (heartbreaking, but) lovely.

Luthien and Beren.

She was instrumental in helping Beren achieve her bride price. They managed to do what no one else in the world could do (steal a Silmaril) and their actions ended up bringing down Morgoth in the end. Also, she managed to move Death (basically) and brought her lover back to life. She also sacrificed her immortality for him.

He ended up losing his hand and being cut off from his people for ever more to be with her. He tried to leave her behind to keep her safe but she wasn't having any of it. Luthien on her own is pretty epic but she did most of her amazing feats for love of Beren.

I personally find Eleven/River rather epic.

Actually, come to think of it, I tend to think that tragic or at least bittersweet romances are more epic.

The Marquise de Merteuil and Vicomte Valmont, showing how to have a remarkably intricate and incredibly unhealthy relationship, by dragging everyone else they ever banged or would like to bang into their bullshit.

I also really enjoy The Lion in Winter's Henry II and Eleanor of the Aquitaine for similar diseased reasons. Their crappy romance rewrote the borders of France, determined kings and their futures, had Richard the Lionhearted for a screwed up kid, and had some seriously snappy dialogue.

I like the screwed up couples.

Isis and Osiris.

The secret today made me remember Seishirou/Subaru. A messed up example of love, but still pretty epic.

I ship so many things (enthusiastically!) but I'm having difficulty thinking of a pairing that I would describe as 'epic'. (Or that I don't think someone would laugh at me for describing as epic...)

Uh, maybe Legolas/Gimli? Even though they aren't a canon romance, I see their friendship as so damn epic that it should still count as a 'love story'. (Gimli went to the Grey Havens!!! Also, by extension the imaginary romance I am totally into is epic as well.)
