11. They're my OTP, too. I just do NOT understand where the whole Chakotay/7 thing came from! And Chakotay and Janeway in Shattered? I always skip over the part where he says there are some lines they haven't crossed because, IMO, that's BS -- they've just been discreetly together for a long time. *uses Doc/7 icon to spite them*

ETA: It's possible I missed the whole point of the secret of 11, but my take on it is this: the Chakotay/7 thing came out of the blue, there was almost NO lead-up to it, it was deranged and random. If some people like it, that's fine, but I don't see it as Chakotay leaving her. I see it as the creators thrusting the Borg Boobies at us one final time before the end.

32: I see what you're saying. In my early manga-reading days, I got confused by seeing Banana Fish described as "shoujo". All those guns and explosions, and almost no female characters, and no romance to speak of (well, except the sort-of-kind-of thing with Ash and Eiji), and an incredibly sparse art style -- not what people tend to think of as "shoujo" at all. Kind of an eye-opener.

But, that said... there are characteristic genres associated with each demographic... or, not genres so much as aesthetic modes. You're absolutely right that "it's not shoujo because it has sparkles and flowers and romance", but there's a lot less sparkles and flowers and romance in shounen, seinen and josei, ne? Just like shoujo doesn't tend to feature stories about teenage boys wanting to Be The Very Best at some competitive sport or sport-like activity. There are some pretty deep-rooted assumptions about what each demographic group is interested in that results in the distinction between "demographic" and "genre" being blurrier than it looks at first glance.

(Personally I think the whole divide-manga-by-demographic thing is unutterably stupid, but that's how they do it in Japan. Blech.)

Noooo, I understand that there's certain aspects typical to each demographic, of course--that's how it is with everything. But this mostly came from a poll of my f-list I did asking what kind genre of fiction they preferred, and a lot of them said..."shounen." That...doesn't tell me anything. There's sci-fi shounen, there's fantasy shounen, there's tournament/sports shounen. They told me the style they liked, not the genre. That's where it stems from.

I don't think she hated him. When he came back, during 'Walkabout'? Can you tell me she wasn't a little bit in love with him when he came in that door? I think she really wanted to save him. And he wanted to be saved so badly. But he's just so weak when it comes to power.

Also, there are ways to 'distract' people other than throwing yourself at them. And all that shirtless action didn't hurt either. 'stirred' indeed. XD

I think I'm mainly a whore for redemption stories. That's probably where the whole pairing comes from. That and the shirtless scenes.

47. Can't say I really know if you're doing a good or bad thing, either. The good thing is that if the fanfic is gone, it won't be adding to the low standards of the fandom. The less bad fics that are out there, the less acceptable it will be for them to exist at all. The bad thing is that you're totally smashing someone who could possibly grow into an excellent fanfic writer if they're given constructive criticism rather than a you going completely apeshit on them. And I mean, I don't think you causing a few people to delete their fics is going to save the fandom, anyway. Maybe you should consider taking your anger out on something else (like punching the crap out of a pillow) when you read a shitty fic, THEN review it as kindly as possible. And if they can't take what you say from then on, they shouldn't be authors.
