2) One can't even begin to treat your suffering with fairness, but all I can venture to say is that a person's sense of mercy is tested most in the face of such violent injustices. Please try to hang on. My guess is that Light's name is completely ironic.

3) Wow. Your friendship already hit the skids before the cosplaying, I take it?

9) It's a tough call. Those two have a fair distance to go before they can really see eye to eye anyway, so . . . unless their characters mature in a way that makes their pairing more plausible, I'd rest assured the "open-ended" result might just happen in the manga.

10) Three words: Best Secret Ever. XD

30) Poor dear. It just goes to show that our bodies were made a certain way for a purpose. We can easily fantasize away the truth until reality hits us with a 2x4. Stay strong!

35) DITTO. Those two have life crapping on them every two seconds. In their world, even God is kinda mean! Someone needs to give them a break! >.<

36) The driving force behind those smut fics is lust, not love. I know you said such fics didn't raise your expectations of sex, but I'm just tossing that out there.

50) The Swan Princess--FTW! ^^ Still, er, need to see it . . . .

I was waiting for someone to come with the "not what nature intended" argument. Do you feel the same way about men who perform the act? *sigh* The OP got hurt because she 1) had anal with someone who obviously had never performed it before and learned how to do it from pornos where the guy just shoves it in and b) was silly enough to do something like that for the sake of her writing when it's not even necessary.

When's it coming BACK?

I just saw the picture from this post, and then went and read THE WHOLE SERIES. Today. Which isn't hard, since there're only 9 chapters. It is coming back though, right?

13: D:

I can't speak for everyone obviously, but most of my wank and asshattery around here isn't all serious. Dude this is fandom, it's not SRS BSNS like some people think it is, and people need to learn to lighten up and take a joke. Most of my wanking is a joke.

Don't be scareds of me pls ;__; I'm only scary once you get to know my fetishes.

People can only judge you by the face you wear. If the face you wear is a complete fucktard, who's to blame exactly for thinking you are one? No, fandom isn't serious business but how is someone supposed to know "Oh, when I'm here? I'm a complete asshole but I'm not really like that, but over there, I'm a real sweetheart so don't be harsh."

Doesn't really work like that.

[identity profile] roko-epsilon.livejournal.com 2008-01-16 03:53 am (UTC)(link)
2: I always thought he was spoiled and bratty and still hate him, but I can't really criticize his idea of judgment that much.

Now, his attitude about it... definitely a problem.

[identity profile] callmejude.livejournal.com 2008-01-16 03:55 am (UTC)(link)
6. That is so cute. :) I must say, I've actually thought of that before...my two main reasons I'm not in a rush to losing my virginity are stated Scream and Hellsing. XD

15. I quote obscure fandoms all the time! Hell, I quote lj buddies! XD Nobody knows what I'm talking about, but I don't care. If they're too despretely curious I'll explain, but, y'know.

29. Haha, that sounds like fun. Mind if I give it a try?

33. I don't know what fandom you're talking about, but that secret made me cry 'cause it made me think of Fred and George and this fanart (http://deisi.deviantart.com/art/Fireworks-61389055) that I saw a few days after finishing the seventh book. I mean, I cried when Fred died, but that fancomic hit me like a ROCK because of that one little panel when George talks to him.

34. I KNOW! God, if I were to be a writer I would LOVE people to write fanfics with my characters! I'd love to see all the ships they came up with and all that jazz...it always seems so whiney when authors ask not to be fanfic'd.

(Anonymous) 2008-01-16 04:01 am (UTC)(link)
30. You deserved that for your foolishness. Stop reading those fanficrants entries complaining about girls writing slash fic when they've never had buttsex and get thee to a site that gives tips to slash writers. I don't know whether to slap my forehead, laugh, or both at the same time over this one.

7. YAY, KIRBY~! It'd be awesome if you found a way to do it! ^_^

Oh, man. Now I'm getting all sorts of Phoenix Wright Kirby imagery.

8. I'm sort of in the same boat. I'm pretty much indifferent to her, for some reason. I certainly don't hate her and I can see how some might find her interesting but...she just didn't register much for me at all. And I especially agree with the last part. I could never see her with Phoenix. I feel like there are at least 5 other people he has much more chemistry with.

17. I know what you mean! I read and loved Howl's Moving Castle before he made it into a movie. I was shocked by the changes and yet I still LOVED that movie. He has a weird ability to do that thing where you're like "YOU 'RUINED' MY BOOK AND I LOVE YOU EVEN MORE NOW!" Or maybe it's just me?

38. I think it makes sense! Of course, it is a very sad thought that we can often value fictional things more than real people, but I think it's simply because even if they're not real, you feel like you KNOW them and you've formed an attachment to them. You've seen their inner struggles, maybe imagined what it'd be like if you met them, and so on (or is that just me? ^_^;;). When I hear that someone I don't know died in some other country or something, I feel sad because of the loss of life and the sad circumstances under which it might have happened, but I wouldn't necessarily cry the way I have when some of my favorite characters have died.

So I guess what I'm trying to say is, you're totally not alone in that and I think it's even sort of a "normal" reaction.

40. OH SNAP, IT WAS A GIRL!? It's been so long that I forgot her exact backstory... But I do agree that she is kind of striking in a I-was-friggin-scared-of-her sort of way. ^_^;

41. OH. MAN. FRIIIIEND! T_T I am EXACTLY the same way! I would first decide that Arc would be my black mage type and Refia would be the healer, and so on, but then I'd want to switch it around, and then I'd worry they each have an innate job they should be and I was doing it all wrong.

And then I would cry.

50. YAY, ODETTE~! I loved that she went through all the stages and was even ugly once. And then she wouldn't just up and marry the prince. There had to be something more. SOMETHING DEEPER. ^_^;

There's been enough wank on this already, but here's some constructive advice.

It might have done the ex-friend better to be upfront and honest with why you didn't want to be friends anymore (re: her emo-ness and attention whoring), rather than sabotoging it or setting it up. No one is perfect, and people don't learn their flaws if no one points it out to them.

That said, I really hope the hobby was just the straw that broke the camel's back and you aren't really so judgmental that you wouldn't let others have their likes and dislikes too.

[identity profile] th3newblack.livejournal.com 2008-01-16 05:53 am (UTC)(link)
Agreed, so hard. They killed the opera scene where the two of them talk SO HARD. Subtlety? What's that. I need to be hit over the head when two characters might like each other.

Isn't this a repeat? I know it's a different image, possibly a different poster, but still.

I'm not going to yell at you. Instead I'll explain something: The difference between those two things you posted are that you didn't know those people personally. I think the only thing that may make you a bit heartless is that you had to post a secret about it in that manner. It's going to hurt those people that you feel sorry for all over again.

However, understand that you don't need to be scared you'll always only feel more for fictional characters than real people. Real friendships take effort (on both sides), in order for you to have an investment in what that person means to you. Who knows? One day you may feel closer to a real person than the characters. But the way you're handling it right now in this manner is not going to take you any closer to it.

17. ... Somehow, iawts. o.o The movies haven't been that great, so a little canon-raep wouldn't hurt at all, imho. I'd just be scared of the fluffies he'd probably put in it. >>

I've played there for over a year... and I have no intention of leaving. It strikes me as being quite lively.

I think sometimes people don't realize that playing in a game for 6+ months is a very long time... and a lot of people get burned out on that. So it makes sense that older players may move on, but there are still new players coming in, so... I think we're still currently afloat. XD;

But it's a game, so don't worry so much?

I think people need to cut 38 some slack. There is a world of difference between the World Trade center attacks and characters in anime, and it's not like you think.

Yes, it's tragic that people, real people died in the WTC attacks. But how many of you knew someone in there that was trapped or even killed in the aftermath? Those that did, sorry for your loss, but there were a lot more of us out here that didn't know anyone at all. They were all just a faceless, nameless humanity. We had no personal, emotional investment with the people.

What I'm saying is that it's hard to make that connection emotionally to people that you don't know, didn't know, wouldn't know.

However, with any tv show, you see them every week. You watch as they move through their fictional lives and sorry to say, we do end up developing some empathy for them. We care what happens to them, even though it isn't real and we know it. If the writers are good and the actors are good, the viewer develops an attachment. So naturally, the viewer will care what happens to the character.

Think that's harsh or not based in reality, your call. But it's a fact and anime/tv fans here on LJ are not immune to this. Humanity as a whole are like this, in varying degrees.

Get used to it because it's not going away.

[identity profile] michirukaiou.livejournal.com 2008-01-16 05:15 pm (UTC)(link)
9. I'm not a fan of the pairing at all. I haven't read the manga yet (I may get around to it someday), so I'm unsure of whether the pairing is canon or not, but I prefer to see them as friends.

17. Yes, please!

26. Not at all. It can be frustrating when you want to find fanworks of a certain series, but you can hardly find anything about the series at all. Or if you just want someone to share the series with, but no one seems to know or care what it is. To me, it is so much more fun to be involved in a large fandom. The less enjoyable aspects of a large fandom can usually easily be ignored.

35. Absolutely agree!

37. They are also my favorite characters and favorite pairing from Tsubasa, but I can not recall anyone ever assuming me to be illiterate fanbrat. Even when I've been involved in fandoms notorious for stupid fans, I've never been treated as one. It seems to me that as long as you present yourself to be a relatively intelligent and considerate person, you will rarely ever have a problem with other fans stereotyping you. And if someone does think you're a fanbrat simply because you're a Kurogane/Fay fan, they're not worth your time, anyway. :)

Number 13 has clearly never been to Gaia.

Number 26 is indeed nice -- unless basically ALL of the fandoms you like best have exactly ZERO online representation (at least in the circles you frequent). At a certain point, every now and then, it does get kind of tiresome to be the sole missionary preaching the virtues of your own sources of inspiration to an audience of deaf people.

In three years, I've found ONE person online who is able to appreciate what I mean when I say that Ashe Foreth reminds me of last week's dumped soap opera chick.

I've met... oh... two people, maybe, who would even NOTICE if every poem ever written suddenly blipped out of existence. Most people hear "poetry" and run for the kills or just sit there going "......I like pie?"

Tolkien fandom rivals the Cult of Potter, but in four years of searching, I've found two pieces of fanfic that featured my favourite character as the primary focus -- one was in Spanish, and the other was a Silmarillion screenplay in which my character's part consisted mainly of page after page after page of torture scenes described with a level of detail that seriously made me question the author's sanity and knowledge of human anatomy. Also, it sucked. Sorry, but no one outside of Monty Python can still sit there and speak coherently after they've had two arms and a leg lopped off.

And don't even talk to me about classical literature "fandoms".

I hate most mainstream fandoms. So an awful lot of conversations simply spiral into me sitting there nodding politely while people gush about Heroes or Lost or 24 or some other thing I couldn't watch 5 minutes of and consistently care about or enjoy.

26

[identity profile] thano.livejournal.com 2008-01-16 07:16 pm (UTC)(link)
8D Which character? I can brush up on my Silmarillion real quick and be back in a jiffy and do the obligatory squee-thing if need be. >D
