How much I love reality TV and 'trashy' media in general.

Apparently people think I'm very highbrow, and they're partly right. I do love what I guess people consider to be highbrow too, but sometimes it's just really relaxing to watch some over the top drama queens making a big deal out of nothing. It gives my brain a break from everything else going on.

Well, I come across pretty cute and "feminine" - I can be almost obnoxiously cutesy in my personality and like to dress in traditionally girlie clothes, and my hair is long, I wear makeup, etc.

But I do MMA fighting. So when people joke about me being weak or easy to take down, I always have to remind them that I'm actually a pretty serious martial artist.

I'm also a lesbian, and I rarely ping the "community"'s "gaydar". Scare quotes on both for a reason.

That I'm Catholic. I'll admit I'm not exactly a perfect one -never claimed to be either-, but it does kind of surprise some people when I make an off-hand mention about church or news matters concerning the current Pope on one of my side-blogs... probably because I don't make a big to-do about it (since I know religion is a tetchy subject and I just plum don't like confrontations in general) unless they ask me or w/e.

On that note, people locally/offline are surprised when they learn I'm into things like comics/comic book movies, video games, and generally "geeky" things. More or less because I "hide" my power level or I don't talk about it much, I dunno. At most, my co-workers know I sometimes go to "geek conventions", and they know I like Guardians of the Galaxy a whole lot, haha. But that's about it.

That I'm actually an introvert. I can be outgoing to new people and make small talk till the cows come home and be comfortable for the most part. That makes people think I'm a social person and like I want to hang out 2-3 times a week.

Which NOOOOO. I like to stay at home, alone or with my boyfriend, and that's it. Social occasions take DAYS of recharge time.

Probably my politics. Given the stereotype of nerdy guys (not helped by GuppyGash) being conservative (or tediously libertarian) and misogynist, it tends to raise a few eyebrows when I start ranting about how much I hate most male-dominated fandoms.

That I spin fire; that I'm bisexual; that I'm adopted; that I'm not Christian; and, on the very rare occasion that it's at all appropriate to discuss, the fact that I'm into BDSM.

Also, when it comes to political views, people tend to assume that I'm more conservative than I actually am.

For most of my life I was the opposite--bullying in elementary school's going to do that for you. I never talked in class--on purpose--and avoided making friends.

Apparently my family is proud/bemused that I actually do public speaking now. I can carry out conversations with people who intimidate me. When people mistreat me I (usually) get angry rather than presume I must have deserved it somehow, as they generally want you to do. It's a total 180.

That I swear a lot. I'm rather formal when I meet knew people and since I'm told I look like an angel, people are often surprised to hear me drop curses every other word when I'm more relaxed.

People are usually surprised by how much I can actually lift, like they expect me to fall over trying to pick up 70lbs or something.
