I've only ever met a couple of women who did this (they were kind of hippy-ish and thought that their menstrual cycle should be celebrated and embraced because it was a gift from...someone. some goddess or something idk). It just seems irresponsible though because you'll probably end up ruining your clothes.

How is free bleeding supposed to work? do you sit in a tub the whole time? Seems like the mess would straight up just not be worth it.

Re: Free-Bleeding

(Anonymous) 2015-05-09 11:31 pm (UTC)(link)
Eh, it'd be easy to get away with if you have a light flow. There are some months where I really wonder why I bother wearing pads.

Re: Free-Bleeding

(Anonymous) 2015-05-09 10:50 pm (UTC)(link)
Yay, but not because of 'OMG Awesome womanly power!!1!'

It's political. Tampons should be free, and until they are my flow will not just be my problem. It will be the problem of every bus or train I ride, and everywhere else I go.

Re: Free-Bleeding

(Anonymous) 2015-05-09 10:53 pm (UTC)(link)
Sorry, but if I can't even get life-saving medicine for free I am not even going to ask for free pads. Its not realistic and I'd rather not ruin my clothes in the meantime.

Why should they be free? You also pay for food, water, and housing. And those are way more important.

Know Your Meme claims this was invented on 4chan as a joke to mock feminists.

My actual opinion depends on whether period blood carries bloodborne illnesses. I did a quick search, but couldn't find a valid source either way.

oh god I just did a google search and found a facebook page. https://www.facebook.com/FreeBleeding. Please tell me this is a joke. Being raped by tampons? Because they were invented by men?

Guess y'all going to have to get rid of your vibrators also.

Free-Bleeding?... *googles* huh. Okay then.

That's certainly not for me, it'd ruin my clothes for a start and I already feel icky enough on my first couple of days without menstrual blood running down my leg. (Also I'm not sure how hygienic that is considering that menstrual blood isn't just blood but dead tissue as well).

No. That's not hygienic at all.
Maybe in the privacy of your own house? But in public? NOoooooo.

I thought this was something that was made up to make fun of feminists?

Anyway, I legitimately think that menstrual supplies should be subsidized (much like most everything else health-related). But I also enjoy, you know, not staining my clothes and furniture and carpeting. My flow is often very heavy, too, and I'm prone to clots. Nothing like passing a clot in the shower and feeling this baby slug start to ooze down your leg.

Thank god for menstrual cups.

I have a hard time believing this is even a THING outside of, at most, a few fringe weirdos. If it's an economic/ecological thing, you can make your own reusable, ecologically conservative pads with some scrap fabric and a sewing kit. (Even I could probably do that, and I SUCK at sewing.) Or you can support women-only businesses that make period things, like Mooncup.

Women in other countries suffer health and life problems because of a LACK of menstrual products. To stop using them for a feminist reason sounds completely backasswards to me.

It sounds like a troll to me.

Nay. Jesus Christ, nay. Not only is it dangerous, (there's a reason why medical professionals handle old blood and human tissue as a biohazard) it's also rude. You are staining everything. Someone is going to have to clean up after you because I doubt you are cleaning up after yourself.

Re: Free-Bleeding

(Anonymous) 2015-05-10 06:27 am (UTC)(link)
No.

If I bleed all over public places, my enemies will have a much easier time getting hold of my blood to cast curses on me.

Also, oozing bodily fluids everywhere is pretty fucking disgusting. But mostly the enemy sorceror thing.

Well done OP, and presumably OP who also replied to herself in support of "free bleeding" in a few comments.

I mean it's ridiculous and very rad!fem style, but at the same time, too hilarious not to enjoy. I don't think I've ever witnessed wank about this before, artificial or not, so I've enjoyed the absurdity of this thread. Nice!
