Thank you for putting this paedo shit behind a link.

You're the same anon who's going all Internet Tough Guy in the Whedon thread, aren't you? What about this place makes you want to troll it so energetically? Isn't there something better you could do with your time? Right now there's a CoD game going on with nobody shouting ethnic slurs into their mike; that's a problem your skillset can fix. Go. Your people need you.

I don't think she's a sixteen-year-old actress, but I don't know the context.

Those are...I'm gonna say high-end tits for sixteen. I think "tits" is turning into my word of the week.

Anyway, I agree with this comment. I'm not crazy about minors hooking up, but I don't think it should be illegal at that age.

Of course sixteen year olds can have sexuality. That doesn't mean adults (and I mean, people say over 20/21, not 18-year-old) should be having sex with them.

I mean, can you really imagine a 30 year old accepting boundaries or a "no" from a 16-year-old? Every older person who tried to hit on me as a teenager treated me like a child. A child they wanted to make out with, or have sex with, but still a child who wasn't supposed to say no to adults or speak for herself.

The whole age of majority thing is honestly an arbitrary decision, anyway. It's not as if you suddenly wake up on your 18th birthday and some sort of magical "adult switch" flips on in your brain. If you were an immature 17-year-old, you're going to be an immature 18-year-old. Reaching legal age isn't going to change that.

So you support Tyga and Kylie Jenner dating? Lorde and her boyfriend (when she was still underage)? Don Johnson when he began courting Melanie Griffith?

As another anon said, a 16/17 year old dating a person who is 18 is one thing. 19 is pushing it but once that person hits 20 it's a whole lot of nope!

It's an issue of power dynamics more than maturity. I mean, if your boss pressures you into a relationship, that's illegal even if you're older than he is. The same applies if you've got your own job and your own career and you've got some teenager trapped in a position where s/he has no means of escape.

BS: I'm kind of wondering if the use of this movie is meant to be a roundabout tipoff. I looked it up, and the MC decides not to have sex with the girl because she seems too young and immature.

(Anonymous) 2015-05-14 11:54 pm (UTC)(link)
Yeah, this is one of those things where it's a little bit arbitrary. But the law needs something to base itself off of, so. Obviously no one should be messing with anyone who isn't through puberty yet, but after that what's truly morally right depends on maturity, how much authority is involved, whether or not the respect required for a healthy consenting relationship exists, etc. Like, I'd disagree with the above anon that say, a 17 year-old and a 20 year-old should never be in a relationship, assuming the 20 year-old respects their partner and isn't in a position of authority, etc.

Heh. Boobs.

Also I was a horny teenager so I do know what you're getting at OP, but that doesn't mean that teenagers should get their horn on in adult spaces, necessarily.

(Anonymous) 2015-05-15 12:08 am (UTC)(link)
I mean yes, laws are not the same as morality and they vary not just within the US but globally. For a lot of young girls 16 is not that different looking then 18, especially when you consider that many girls enter puberty in their early teens.

But there does have to be dividing lines somewhere. I think since porn generally is an "over 18" thing, it's become accepted that 18 is the line even though consent is younger in some places.

(Anonymous) 2015-05-15 12:10 am (UTC)(link)
Yeah, 16 is the age of consent in my country. I've never really understood this whole "18 is the magic number" thing.

teenagers are absolutely allowed to have a sexuality and explore their sexual feelings... with EACH OTHER. it's when a grown adult gets involved that it becomes exploitative, predatory, and gross. and no, day between 17 and 18 doesn't make a difference. if you're defending adult relationships with a teen where the age gap is more than a handful of years, you're gross also.

It's 14 in Germany (and in a lot of other countries so not just us)

(Anonymous) 2015-05-15 05:09 am (UTC)(link)
The problem with these arguments - and this is just my experience - but I feel like, most of the time, when Europeans hear the words "age of consent", they understand that to mean the time when you're allowed to have sex legally; when Americans hear the words "age of consent", they understand that to mean the time when you're allowed to have sex legally with adults.

And neither of those positions are really wrong, but it leads to this cross-purposes where I think Europeans perceive Americans as saying that no one can have sex until they're 18, and Americans perceive Europeans as defending 16 year olds hooking up with 45 year olds.

Text: I hate it when fandom sources say things like "16 is legal in 31 U.S. states. 17 in 18. 18 is only the law in 12 states, but one of them is California.

If it's an absolute moral law, it won't change based on a ten-minute drive. You're just denying the weird, intense, uncontrollable teen sexuality that got most of us into fandom in the first damn place.

S!B I'll probably get called a pedophile apologist just for this secret. Facts have no place in the marketplace of competitive moral outrage.

(Anonymous) 2015-05-15 11:32 am (UTC)(link)
...No wait what are we getting ruffled up at? Teens having sex in real life or teen characters portrayed and described having sex/teen character portrayed and described naked in fiction?

Both of those things are gonna happen, and I doubt no amount of moral outrage is not gonna solve or fix either. More importantly, or at least I think so, in no way these concepts should be compared with light justification, or blamed to lead from one to next.

Media and art has always had these controversies.
"This video game is just porn simulator!"
"That movie inspired murder!"
"Reading wrong book made that person suicidal!"
"Liking wrong painting made that person immoral!"

But how often the main reason, the drop which tipped the scales was that "wrong" piece of media? How often they had more to do with the decision making than that person's feelings of love or hate or desperation, or feeling mentally unwell?

If teen and adult are having sex in real life, that is something society should intervene to protect the underaged. If teen and adult characters are portrayed or described to have sex in fictional material, that is something which should leave to be, not censored and equipped with appropriate content rating.

Art is not always nice and safe, because it is not meant to be.

Jesus fucking christ the amount of people commenting on here with their peadophile and rape apologist bullshit is truly terrifying. A 16 year old is still a 16 year old regardless of whether she boobs or not, and a 30 year old wanting to fuck her is anything but "natural" or "normal". These responses are so fucking gross.
