I was watching TV and there was a scene with kids rolling down grassy hills. I had a brief moment of, "Man. I remember doing that, it was so much fun." And then I remembered that No. It wasn't fun. It ended with my clothes being dirty and you inevitably hit some kind of rock on your way down. The worst part was how itchy the grass would make you, especially when bits and pieces got under your clothes.

What are some things you realized you have nostalgia for that actually sucked?

Yeah, as I get older I have a harder time tolerating sweet stuff. Though, cotton candy taste better to me than cotton candy flavored stuff.

I actually like cotton candy (in small doses) because of the fun texture, but I'll agree about most candy marketed to kids in general. It's too sweet, or too weird (such as candy corn which tastes like wax).

I didn't even like cotton candy as a kid. It's so dry and chewy!

When I was small, I loved cotton candy but I always hated how sticky you inevitably got. I haven't eaten cotton candy in over 15 years (because I want to avoid the stickyness of eating it off a stick and you can't really buy it packaged in my country) but I really want to eat it again sometime!

Almost everything. That goes for things other people are nostalgic for too.

Frankly I'm surprised I'm enjoying the Resident Evil series as much as I am after not playing in 10 years.

Aw, most of my nostalgia stuff is still nice. A lot of it IS video games (mostly Ocarina of Time and Mario Kart).

I would always start to get sick to my stomach, unless it was a really short hill. (Pro tip: the Australian parliament house is not a short hill.)

Oh yeah, some shows from my childhood are terrible. Many are on Netflix and I tried to rewatch them. It was very sad. :(

Almost every TV show I loved when I was about 13, I watched much later and realized it was pretty stupid and not as cool as I remembered.

I remember the same feeling. As a kid, we'd walk up to the high school and roll down this one hill. It was super exhilarating and down I walk past it all the time and wonder why I ever thought that was fun.

Sand is the same way with me where now I like to just sit on the beach, I hate playing in the sand because it gets everywhere and it's itchy and scratching and it comes off me for ages, bleh.

Life in the 1950s, it sucked. Yet every political party seems to be promoting themselves as the ones bringing it back based on some hazy nostalgia ridden view of the decade.

Forums. I always say how much I miss them being more of a thing, but OMG the politics and hierarchy. I think they were fine back then, but now I just don't have the time or patience.

For other people, Vanilla WoW.

There is so much rose-tinted nostalgia with a lot of the older players for back then about 'how much better it was', which it wasn't, different yes, but not better. Granted I do miss some of the old stuff like class-specific quests and the community feel of each realm, but I also don't miss how hard leveling was(I wouldn't' change how I leveled my first character but you couldn't pay me to go back to that model) or doing any end-game content. The players have grown up, gotten jobs and have families, they can't spend 30+ hours a week on the game anymore and the game has adapted to that.

As for myself I think some of the old cartoons and shows I used to watch really don't hold up well at all, oh and my Goosebumps and Animal Farm books, ooooh so bad. But I still kind of love them.

Fine I'll fess up.

I didn't like mad max thunderdome and was originally only going to torrent fury road later for nostalgias sake.

Easy-Bake Ovens - add water to really horrible cake mix and cook with a really hot light bulb, mmm-mmm.

Snoopy Sno-Cone machine - it is shaved ice, but it takes forever and is noisy as hell.

Pogo Stick - takes time to master and then once you do, it's kind of boring, unless you hit an uneven patch of ground, then it's exciting again, but not in a fun way.

Those stupid spring-y animal things on playgrounds - just, no.

On the other hand, Sit 'n Spins are still awesome, Legos are still cool (even if you do have avoid stepping on them), and Tetris is still fun.
