Didn't want to hijack the other thread, so here's one for people who feel broken by abortion. Regretting that they did or regretting that it touched their lives.

My ex-GF had one. It's a large part of why we're ex. I didn't know it beforehand, but turns out I can't be with someone who would purposefully kill my child. It's been years, and when something reminds me of it, I miss what could have been.

I would say there's a very big gap between someone who wishes their ex had wanted and decided to keep the child, and someone who wishes their ex had kept the child even though she was unhappy with it and felt she should suffer for his sake. OP hasn't given any evidence to say he's the latter.

You're entitled to your grief - if you've donated a kidney, a lung, or an eye to someone, or have donated blood at every single opportunity, or if you're a medical or emergency services volunteer of some sort. ie if you've put yourself out to save life. Otherwise, no.

I was pressured into one by my mom because "you're so young! A baby will ruin your future!!" I still see the guy on campus sometimes. He never knew, and is a great guy who probably would have stayed and been a great father. It wouldn't have been the future my mom wanted, and it probably wouldn't have been an easy future for a while, but I think it's one I would have liked.

I haven't really gotten close to anyone since.

I'm really sorry. :(

Oh, honey. Don't let that keep you from getting close to someone again. I'm sorry it happened to you, but now you know how you feel. Now you know that, should you fall pregnant again, there's a line you can't cross. Maybe it affects your choice of partner or when you have sex or what you tell your mom, but those are good things to be thinking about, anyway.

If you want a family of your own, don't give up because of this. You deserve to love someone and be loved and have whatever life you want. And don't let anyone try to invalidate your feelings. It's okay to feel regret and be sad, regardless of how the situation came to pass.

Doctor here. I will perform them when nobody else can, because it's not my job to judge, but sometimes I feel like a little piece of me dies with each one. So much potential snuffed out. It's why I always ALWAYS push for better contraceptive measures, self defense, and help for poor families.

Think of it this way:

For a lot of women, having that child would inevitably doom their potential because they're not in a position to care for it. Having an abortion lets them fulfill THEIR potential which would, most often, otherwise be lost at the expense of an unwanted, forced child.

Given that a lot has already been invested in these women (and there's no surety that these fetuses would come to term anyway), on the whole, I think you're doing more to preserve the potential of humanity than harming it.
