(Anonymous) 2015-10-24 08:10 pm (UTC)(link)If you could make one ostensibly cis het fictional character canonically some form of LGBT in a way that couldn't be handwaved or retconned...
who, to which, and why?

Sherlock Holmes would be aro-ace. No more stupid Holmes/Irene Adler plotlines!

(Anonymous) 2015-10-24 08:19 pm (UTC)(link)Because there are characters that I feel like can be read bisexual (or gay) but aren't necessarily canon either way (re: Tulio and Miguel from El Dorado). I don't consider anyone canon-straight until the narrative makes it that way.
But my first thought would be Cloud Strife, I'd make him canon bisexual, even though I do think he is bisexual in the extant game (with dates with Barret and such).
Or wait, maybe a couple het-only romance options in Dragon Age, I'd make bisexual, because I'd rather all romance options be bisexual. So Alistair, Morrigan and Cassandra at least...

(Anonymous) 2015-10-24 08:19 pm (UTC)(link)It's not even really for shipping reasons for me (I don't hardcore ship Steve with anyone in particular) but, to me, he's a great choice precisely because he represents the American ideal (what it should be, not what it is, sadly). And the American ideal being not-cis or not-het would send one hell of a message

Valerie and Danielle (when Dani is older of course). But it would make perfect sense that someone cloned from a person who is attracted to women to be attracted to women too. Well depending on how cloning is supposed to work, I guess. It's a believable theory. -shrug-

(Anonymous) 2015-10-24 09:50 pm (UTC)(link)And I might like for James Bond to be bisexual. Ever since his line to Silva ("Who says it's my first time?") it's been in my head as possibly cool bit of characterization. Not because I ship Bond with Q (though I could easily be persuaded to do so), but because I just think it would be kinda great to have this long standing pillar of idolized masculinity turn out to enjoy sex with men as well as women. Then again, I'm not sure I like what that might be seen to imply about how Bond treats women - i.e. If Bond is Bi, then why does he only treat women like they're sexually disposable and not men?

(Anonymous) 2015-10-24 09:55 pm (UTC)(link)Wouldn't it be great if he realized he was at least bi or even preferred men in the end? Giving the finger to all the fans who dreamt up some Jon/Dany ice and fire endgame?

John Sheridan and Jeffrey Sinclair would also be bi (mostly for triad purposes).
O'Brian and Bashir would both be bi.

(Anonymous) 2015-10-25 12:40 am (UTC)(link)Well, there is one exception. In Knights of the Old Republic II, I would probably make Visas Marr (and Atton Rand) the bi romance routes. Mostly because A) it's Bioware, and B) I want my female Exile to be able to date Visas, dammit. She's the best.
Character-wise, I'm pretty sure it makes sense - Visas' personality is very open to single-target sexuality, and Atton's the other character who gets *really* close to the Exile either way.
On the other hand: I don't like how so many people seem to only want to make xyz character LGBT+ because it would make other people angry, or as some kind of political figurehead. Isn't that just using LGBT+ people as ammunition, and basically just tokenism? I'm sorry, but that sounds immature at best and outright exploitative at worst.
