The world post Paris
There was the thing in Hannover where there was apparently a real terrorist plot.
It's not even like I feel unsafe, strangely, I just feel like I woke up in a different world today.
Also this doesn't help really:

I wish I had something more concrete and tangible to offer, but that's all I got.

I'm also kind of laughing at the US governers insisting that their states won't take refugees as if they get a say. This is one of those times where the fact that the feds get to do what they want on immigration actually is a good thing.
But mostly I'm just mad. And especially at the "just take Christians refugees" comments and the "Take only families, not single men" comments as if only Christians and only families are suffering persecution.

(Anonymous) 2015-11-18 12:57 am (UTC)(link)(Not to mention, if these terrorists are pretending to be refugees, then they could just as easily pretend to be Christians or falsely claim to have a family, too, if they knew that was a way for them to sneak in without scrutiny.)
Re: The world post Paris
The governor of my current state has said we will not take refugees, which annoys me. The governor of my former state has said that they will. So, of course, some of my friends who still live there were posting about it yesterday and being like, "WTF this is terrible, what a moron, I hate him, we have our own problems so why are we helping them."
C'mon, guys. These are people trying to escape a warzone, people whose lives have been torn apart, and nobody wants them. Nobody wanted them before this happened. And you're basically saying you'd rather they stay there and die than for you to be mildly inconvenienced (and you probably won't be. You probably won't notice any difference). Half of them have the French flag overlay on their profile pictures, as well, and all I could think was, "if they were French refugees, would your tune change? Or would you say the same things while patting yourselves on the back for temporarily changing an icon on the internet?"
...yeah, I have feelings.

Ours (Maryland) is one of them "for the sake of the Maryland people." I want to write him a letter saying that he does not represent the Maryland people in thinking that, but sadly I'm not sure that's true...

Kudos to you for volunteering, though, regardless of the reason.
Re: The world post Paris
(Anonymous) 2015-11-18 01:11 am (UTC)(link)That said, though, I very much admire your attitude about all of this, and I second the kudos for volunteering on your day off. Not only is it a wonderful gesture in and of itself, and a great distraction, but it's stuff like that that will further prove to the terrorists they aren't going to achieve their goals.
I've just been trying hard to remember that most people want what I want: a sense of peace and safety.
Well said. This is a message everyone should keep in mind for life and other people in general, really.
Re: The world post Paris
The whole situation is just awful. I'm sorry that anyone has had to experience what's gone on the past few days.
