I must repeat what other people might have said: I hope you've read the book. If you haven't? I suggest that you get to it ASAP. There is seriously so much more material to work with, and Howl isn't such a 2D ALMOST TRAGIC HERO. He's a selfish, amazing jerk that I love so much more than the movie's portrayal.

And Michael. Seriously, Michael. Read it for him and the part where he's totally wearing girl pants.

If you have read the book...

I love you.

And I hope you've read Castle in the Air, as well.

And I totally didn't mean for this to sound, um, mean. Asasdkfjf. Just a suggestion for fellow HMC fans.

And Welsh! Don't forget Welsh!
I kinda wish he'd had a Welsh accent in the movie.

I love the book so much more. Movie's fun, book's just fantastic.

24- 90% of everything is crap.

26-...I can see the weird in that. If I saw any of those icons, I'd assume that was the person.

40- EWWWW their RIBS!

62- Cause he's in it for like...5 seconds. Trust me I'm all with you AND he's my fav VA and I still can't get into him.

75- Yes.

26. I just recently started making cosplay icons, so I feel I can respond to this argument of yours by brining up my own reasons for deciding to do cosplay icons.

First of all, never in my mind have I ever had the thought to try and convince people that the cosplay icons I've made and use are my own photos. I can't imagine anyone really getting away with that unless they had significant proof that it's them in those photos. All the cosplay icons I've made were done because I thought the cosplayers did an amazing job at portraying their character and I felt like iconing it. It's the same as with regular icons, and with fanart (though there's still a lot of controversy around that which I will bring up later); you say to yourself, "Wow, I love this image. I want to make an icon out of it" and then you do it. The same thing went through my mind when I found the cosplay images. Also note, I make a strong effort to link back to the site that I got the photos from. If I can't find a source, I won't post them.

The only drama and concern I see here is exactly the same as the debate on whether people should be allowed to make icons out of fanart. You know, respecting the artist, copyright issues, what's on the internet stays on the internet and can't be taken back, etc etc.

Re: #26

I can see what you're saying here, though quite honestly I think cosplay icons are far more controversial than fanart icons. There's something inherently different between what you draw and who you are. I'm both a cosplayer and a fanartist, and I don't think i'd mind that much if someone made an icon out of my artwork without permission (in that case, i'd probably just ask for a credit), but i'd be incredibly angry and confused if they made one out of my face. Finding graphics with you in them is a weird feeling, believe me - and it's not a pleasant one as i've experienced it before.

Just because you post links to the cosplayer's site doesn't mean that they've given you permission. Just because "oh, wow, this is a pretty image" doesn't mean you have a right to make it into an icon and then use/post it. Save it to your desktop by all means, but if you do things with it, don't share them publicly.

It's not to do with just respecting the artist in the case of cosplay, it's also about respecting their identity, because a person's face is what identifies them.

That's just my two cents. *shrugs* take it how you will.

That's the same way I feel about fanart icons.

You didn't draw the fucking picture. Don't use it!

I don't care if you can't speak a word of Japanese. They obviously didn't teach you about plagerism in school.

I used to hate the bish art, and the pairings were understandable but everyone took them way too seriously.

Then I saw Imaginationland and OMG. Kyle/Cartman OTP and I am such a bad bad Jew for it.

I imagine them aged up though, shota isn't a turnon no matter how much the characters act like little adults.

(Anonymous) 2008-02-26 05:15 am (UTC)(link)
One way or the other, man. I tend to lean against newer stuff too, mostly because it really is mostly nothing but fanservice and shit-tastic moe. I'd rather watch Elfen Lied again than start watching a 2007/08 series, ffs. (Although I have a little secret of my own: despite my similarly biased opinions, I fucking LOVED Haruhi. It was like, woah. And I liked it long before the viral craploads went down, i.e. pre-THIS-IS-THE-BEST-SERIES-EVER-HARUHIISM-IS-THE-NEW-RELIGION-OF-OTAKUKIN-ROUND-THE-WORLD. But I stuck with it despite the freakish surge in popularity and in plunge in the quality of the fandom, and I'm really, really glad I did. I still find nothing particularly special in the series, it's not all that deep or meaningful, but it's still something I enjoy indulging in. Like chocolate. Or ice cream. You know, it's almost equally as sinful, now that I think about it :P)

[identity profile] rosevixen.livejournal.com 2008-02-26 05:15 am (UTC)(link)
1. I totally agree. Lisa's my hero, really.

4. Ahahaha, that's the only reason I keep watching, too.

30. KEVINNNNNN. <3 Be my fellow fangirling BFF, plz?

77. pssssssst. Me too.
If only because James Marsden>Patrick Dempsey, but still.

And Sylar poster, with all the damn gears, will you please stfu, secret-wise? I get that it's a puzzle, but...really, it's F!S, no one cares. I even like Sylar and I don't care.
It's almost making me miss the completely uneccessary amount of Phoenix Wright secrets.

45. Ha ha! A kindred spirit.
48. ... But it's not.
61. Is this a rps mpreg fic or something?
73. You should probably try making fandom friends on your own as opposed to through your friend.

[identity profile] phnix-daft-mode.livejournal.com 2008-02-26 06:11 am (UTC)(link)
33)They're people who actually do that? Somehow, I'm actually not all that surprised. This is why I stay away from the Harry Potter fandom. Love the books, but I wouldn't touch that fandom with a 15 foot poll.

44)Yeah, I didn't get it either. Maybe it's apart of Japanese dance? I donno.
But then again, the whole movie seemed kinda off to me.

62)Agreed. Damn! Now you make me wanna ship that

33 OP

(Anonymous) 2008-02-27 03:35 am (UTC)(link)
Yes. And only her, they don't try to reprimand Alecto at all (not that that'd be any better, I'm just not sure why they choose to use Bellatrix for that). *sigh* That's a good idea. I wish I had thought of that.

[identity profile] jeanquirieplus.livejournal.com 2008-02-26 06:11 am (UTC)(link)
Dude, I can understand not liking a character, but as incomprehensible as the Gwen-fans are to me, the Ianto-is-boring people take the cake. In what universe is the snarky butler character ever boring? Wut? So all the flash characters with one personality trait, they're okay. But the subtle multi-layered ones? Boring.

COME ON.

Re: 68

[identity profile] xanykaos.livejournal.com 2008-02-26 09:12 pm (UTC)(link)
I think he's only boring when partnered with Jack. I was kind of disappointed to see that come out at all. I thought he had so much more potential as someone on his own.
