Best friend love is awesome.

(Anonymous) 2015-12-31 11:41 pm (UTC)(link)
Mine too :)

I thought it was sweet too. Way better than the Keira Knightley one anyway. And the Alan Rickman one. I also liked the Martin Freeman storyline, but it's usually cut out of the TV broadcast.

I hate the Keira Knightley one. The movie never really acknowledges how fucky creepy it is for that guy to spend an entire wedding filming only stalkery close-ups of the bridge, then showing up at her door to declare how much he loves her. Dude, she's just gotten married to your best friend. Try to be less of a douche...

They cut out the body double story line? That's lame. They're so adorable and awkward in their wooing!

(Anonymous) 2016-01-01 12:29 am (UTC)(link)
Is this actually romantic? As someone who hasn't seen the movie.

No. The movie has a lot of romantic stories, but also looks at love between stepfather and stepson, love between brother and sister, and (this one) love between colleagues (the aging rockstar and his manager).

Specifically: the rockstar walks into the manager's flat near the end, having just left a massive party at Elton John's because he reckons you should spend Christmas with someone you love, and he's just realised that most of his life has been spent with his manager, that his manager is the closest thing he has to a family or best friend, and that the manager is "the fucking love of my life". It's rather sweet.

I've seen the movie loads of times and I'm still not sure. It's not "canon" romantic but the one guy does leave a party with lots of women and calls the other "the love of his life" and idk, could've been something implied there, with two older single bachelors spending their lives together. If the movie was made today, I think there would've been a chance that they'd be gay. There wasn't any other gay pair or character in the movie, as I recall, so I kind of thought that was the role they were playing.

Most overrated movie ever. But that part wasn't bad.

(Anonymous) 2016-01-01 02:21 am (UTC)(link)
I get not liking it, but really? Most overrated movie?

YES! I loved them, too, so very much. I loved Billy realizing that Joe was the 'love of my fucking life' and wanting to spend Xmas with him, instead of sexing it up at a wild party. They were so damn sweet!

I only got around to watching this last year, and I must say... Most the romances didn't do much for me. I liked the movie itself, but the Rick Grimes thing seemed skeevy and completely pointless (she's married to your BFF, why are you confessing your love to her?!), and although I almost swooned at Colin Firth's last scene, that relationship didn't get enough attention (And seemed to be progressing too fast for me) for me to be completely convinced or invested. I thought Neeson and his son had the best storyline, and I really enjoyed the conclusion to this one too. It was the sweetest one.

He confessed in order to move on.

Why does everyone always miss that part...

It's not favorite romance cause he was miserable and pining and trying to live vicariously in many ways, but he finally realized he needed to move on. It wasn't healthy. He finally got that when she finally realized he was in love with her.

I read them as gay. I would say they were the best love interest but the singer guy was genuinely a dick to the other the entire film.

Saw it again recenly and yeeeeah, same. But honestly, the solely most entertaining part of it was how many famous faces they'd gotten together to do it.

Why was the Prime Minister's tea lady called fat when she was clearly not fat in anyway? Is what I've always wondered about this movie.

(Anonymous) 2016-01-01 02:12 am (UTC)(link)
Ugh, right? I mean, she's a little bigger than the other actresses, but she's not fat by UK standards. A little curvy but not fat - except by mainstream media standards I guess, but even the fact that she's a little bigger than the other women in the movie is easy to miss.

I was just rewatching the Grease movie too, same thing with the actress that plays Jan who is also called fat but she's just as thin as Sandy.

Massive fail between script and casting, I think.

Also I think she was supposed to be a Monica Lewinsky joke.

(Anonymous) 2016-01-01 05:30 am (UTC)(link)
I didn't like that, either. Fat? Not even close.

Not my favorite (I just love Emma Thompson too much), but I do wish there had been more non-platonic love stories.

(Anonymous) 2016-01-01 04:01 am (UTC)(link)
Me too!

They're the best part about an otherwise garbage movie for me. Seriously, it's so bad and idg how people consider it a classic. *angry noises*

I thought that was Mark Addy hugging Bill Nighy at first, but it's some Glaswegian named Gregor Fisher.

(No, I haven't seen this movie.)

OH, BOY, YES! I never thought about it but, yes, they were the best, weren't they? And what the heck was up with the Laura Linney (can't remember the character's name) and Karl thing? Like, you've obsessed over him for years and then YOU JUST GIVE UP?

I don't care what haters say, Love Actually is a great holiday movie.
