Transcript: I feel like I'm not allowed to headcanon Rey as anything but a lesbian.

I headcanon her as bi and ship her with Finn, Poe, and Kylo (and would with any girls if we had any that were bloody viable for shipping with her :T), but everyone seems so dead set on her as a lesbian that I just feel lonely, even though I know that's not true with how popular my other ships are.

The troll Reylo fic doesn't help at all.

Argh, you're ALLOWED to headcanon someone as anything you want. Yes, people will disagree with your headcanon. Sometimes strongly. That doesn't mean you AREN'T ALLOWED to do something.

SOMEONE DISAGREEING WITH YOU IS NOT THE SAME THING AS BEING BANNED FROM DOING SOMETHING.

WHEN will people stop with this "wah, I'm not allowed to do whatever!" crap?

I'm in the fandom at all, but it sounds about as rabid as I'd guess. I would personally love her to be a lesbian, but there's not really anything suggesting that at this point. I'm really hoping one of the main trio is queer. I think Poe has the best chance of being gay, he's just side character enough. Rey's the lead and so far the only young female main character in the series, I think the chance of them letting her be gay is pretty low.

No offense and I don't entirely disagree but I always find it annoying when people confidently assert what a third party will or will not do. It's just so presumptuous. I don't think it's likely either but just stating that it would be "financially stupid of them" strikes me the wrong way.

I'm confused. I'm not really in the fandom per se, but I know a lot of fans and F!S is seriously the only place I've ever heard of people thinking Rey has to be a lesbian.

(To be clear, I'm not saying FS says she has to be, I'm saying I've seen two secrets about that in a row here. And even the other secrets got a lot of "WTF?" comments... maybe it's just an Ao3 thing?)

It's somewhat of a tumblr thing too. Some people do the Finn/Poe/Rey ot3 thing, but others are dead-set with Jessika Pava who is from the novels or something? Idk.

I actually am a lesbian, but I find this whole thing very bizarre. I'm pretty uninterested in headcanoning a female character as a lesbian if she doesn't really have any interesting interactions with other women in canon, tbh.

Despite the wank Rey/Kylo is a very popular ship, and while there are certainly fans who seem to want her to be asexual, or just single, or bi, I've seen fewer headcanons about her being a lesbian. (Then again, I've barely been on tumblr for the past two weeks, so maybe it's a more recent thing.)

You are perfectly allowed to like whatever you want, anon. (And it isn't like she's hooked up with anyone in canon yet, so as of now no one knows for certain.)

On the lesbian front, for a brief period of time before the film came out I thought that would be cool. ...Then I started shipping Rey/Finn, so. (Though Rey being bi would be awesome, I think Poe being bi or gay would be more likely, given he isn't the main character.)

Ugh, somehow everyone I am following is shipping Finn/Poe and calling Rey a lesbian and constantly hating on Reylo and Finnrey. The same people will ship Rey with Captain Phasma because Rey is unmistakably lesbian and all.

I support lesbian Rey 100%, but nothing is canon. Just let people have fun and ship what they want ffs :/

Yeah even as a bi woman the prominence of this headcanon confuses me. I didn't think the movie touched on Rey's sexuality at all (which honestly was refreshing.) The most it showed was her affection for Finn.

People can think of Rey as a lesbian if they want, but it's not a fact. You're allowed to think differently.

for those people who headcanon or write what seems to be unpopular or marginal or rare types of pairing: time is your friend. yeah, at first it'll be rough as the obnoxious who think they own how a character MUST BE PORTRAYED will go after anything that deviates from THEIR headcanon. but time is your friend because invariably, those voices who say 'no no no' will always be eroded by those who accept that fandom is limitless. nothing of any lasting value has ever been built on the foundations of hate. my advice, as someone who was in a similar but different boat, do what you want to do and fuck em. drop them like a stone and make your own way. they don't matter anyhow.
