Yeah, but. She's going to be wearing fishnets or something similar. I'm probably going to be okay with whatever follows (and trust her to make the trans woman playing Frank N. Furter thing work.) And she's so far removed from Tim Curry that this version is just going to be its own entity.

No it isn't. It will constantly be compared to the original movie. I expect many people don't even know the movie is started as musical because the movie is basically the gold standard.

It's kind of hard for ANY reboot to "be its own entity" as a matter of course, though. That's even more true of cult classics.

The cult appeal will not be replicated at all. It will probably be this "huge" thing that will be talked about for two days and then people will just look back on it like, "That was a thing that was unneeded but happened."

RHPS is a pretty terrible movie when you actually watch it. The appeal of it comes from watching with friends or groups of people and playing off of what is happening on screen.

Respectfully disagree. I first watched it when I was 12 with some friends, who didn't like/"get" it at the time. I thought it was the most amazing thing ever because... bisexuality! A transvestite character who was played for sex appeal and drama, never for laughs! Open sexual relationships that were accepted as normal behaviour in an entire culture of people!

And "don't dream it, be it". I will never thank RHPS enough for allowing me to realize that my young feelings were normal and there were other people out there doing what I wanted to be doing.

Still seeing RH very much as a product of its time, and questioning the relevance of mounting a televised stage performance. Face it. Rocky Horror had some great tunes, but the story isn't objectively good, and I say that as someone who went to the "late night picture show".

Ugh. FFS, I am so sick of explaining this. We need the reboot because the original started nothing but white straight men and two women. We need the reboot because we live in a better time and media needs to be changed to reflect that.

Without considering the fact that no one can top Tim Curry, why even make Dr. Frank N. Furter a woman? I think it's dumb considering the whole transvestite thing.

A part of me feels like casting a sexy lady is kinda counter to the orgional point. It was supposed to be shocking and an in-your-face queer positive statment to have this big muscular mans-man looking guy strutting around in fishnets and heels. Have a sexy girl doing it just feels like creepy fanservice. I mean, I appreciate having a PoC in a lead role, but I would have much preferred Terry Crews in that role.

I actually think that she'll have a similar energy but I don't see the point in remaking it. Cult classics are kind of like "right time, right place" things.

Wasn't the whole point of that character that he was a cross-dressing man? Also, people can do their thing and all but idk if she'll be able to make it as memorable as he did, including aesthetically. He has a very dramatic, sharp-edged look that she doesn't really have.

I'm mostly curious about Curry as the Criminologist in the new film, tbh. If he's feeling well enough after that stroke to do any sort of acting again, it's a Good Thing.

IDK what I think about this because it feels more like a money grab than an actual desire to make a new film.

Fox are blocking a release of the stage production. Richard O'Brian gave an interview where he talked about how he gets pretty much nothing from the film because the rights don't belong to him, but he gets royalties from the stage production.

I also feel a little bit...odd about the idea of a trans woman playing a cross-dressing man. Obviously Laverne Cox is fine with it otherwise she wouldn't have agreed and I have no right to say something like this is questionable but IDK...it just feels odd.

I think it's a stupid idea. Not a remake, I think it was inevitable and would have happened no matter what happened, I think the casting is stupid.

Laverne Cox as Janet or any female character, that would be fine. It would make sense that she is playing a woman because you know...she's a woman. It just doesn't make any sense for her to play Frank.

I think I'd be a little bit more on board if they announced Rocky was also going to be a woman and they were going to do a little bit of lyric smudging to make the Charles Atlas song work but you know, it'd make sense.

I love Rocky Horror but doing a reboot or remake or whatever of it is a really fucking dumb idea IMHO, almost as dumb as the Yellow Submarine remake idea that thank fuck they decided not to do. Some things are too good (and too much a product of their time) to be messed with.
