64. A lot of the cosplayers I'm friends with are anywhere between 22 and 30. I didn't start until I was 19 and I still don't cosplay that much. Learning to sew really isn't that hard. For the longest time I knew how to construct my costumes but I had difficulty with a sewing machine and did a lot of hand sewing. It took me about two years before I personally was pleased with my cosplay, however I'm always improving and I think that the same can be said about others as well. I've seen some really awesome first cosplays, with others it takes a few mistakes and sadly with some others they never improve. It's mostly about what you can do creatively and how much effort you want to put into it. I sew my costumes in about two days, so for me now sewing isn't that important but making the entire costume work is. Makeup, wigs, props, shoes all make or break good cosplay.

66. I have to kind of agree. I used to draw girly Vincent and I while he was still a badass, I miss the pretty girly nails and yeah ... I hate K. Haruka's doujins but I did love her art.

73. Sorry, no comments on the secret itself, but... would anyone happen to have the original pic? S-so cute... *A*

8. YES YES YES. I can not stand that crap. Those ploys to try to get you to join their crappy icon comms.

[identity profile] lunarkitten.livejournal.com 2008-03-06 01:59 am (UTC)(link)
1. I'm that way sometimes too, and I have obsession cycles so sometimes my interests tend to shift. I try my hardest not to act obsessed off of the internet, but it's just part of my personality. I had to work on fitting in in high school, now it's my time to be happy. I love collecting toys and cartoon DVDs, screw what "normal" people think. Social anxiety tends to get the better of me some days, so coming home to the internet and fandom is a great way for me to relax and meet people without getting myself anxious. Tell the little voice to gtfo and leave you alone.

16. Sometimes... me too. I got JtHM when I was thirteen or so and was going through a really bad anti-people phase due to my aformentioned anxiety. I can connect with Nny pretty well, even if I'm not a serial killer. I know he's the villain of the story and he knows he's not meant to be liked, but I still do like him. I remember getting so many comments from people saying how well I wrote Nny in-character in one of my stories and it kind of freaked me out.

=) Thanks. You're the first person who hasn't made some snarky comment at me. I was pretty much the same way. And I still don't see why so many people think it's such a horrible thing to identify with him as a person.

[identity profile] stormithe.livejournal.com 2008-03-06 02:00 am (UTC)(link)
Hmm, I can understand what you are saying there. When people masturbate to fictional characters, no matter how 'hot' they may be, it still seems REALLY weird. I feel like it'd be more... insulting to the creator of the characters. "HAHAHA, I AM MASTURBATING ONTO YOUR CREATION!"

ohgod what did I just type?

Re: 38

[identity profile] rmarques.livejournal.com 2008-03-06 12:54 pm (UTC)(link)
What about hentai creators? I mean, the whole point of their creation is to get people to fap to it. :P

[identity profile] meliadoul.livejournal.com 2008-03-06 02:03 am (UTC)(link)
76. I hated Lloyd, so you're not alone there.

71. So the real secret is that you like drinking your own semen??

55. I've felt like that before, but not over Ace Attorney 4. There's a sense of dread, then the slight optimism and then it slowly dawns on you that the game sucks arse.

[identity profile] raven-scarlett.livejournal.com 2008-03-06 02:08 am (UTC)(link)
46. YES PLEASE X100. I want those three together SO BAD. It's awesome to see another 'shipper for them and while I can't say we have a lot of fics, you could always swing by the holic_ot3 community and check out what we do have. I've been working on a piece, myself.

[identity profile] el-hustino.livejournal.com 2008-03-06 02:09 am (UTC)(link)
47. Better to have his older self for a father figure than his younger self. Young-Karel...well, he probably wouldn't give suggestions that should be followed through.

41

[identity profile] deviceles.livejournal.com 2008-03-06 02:15 am (UTC)(link)
Amen. I have felt like Elle got shafted, but I'm still rooting for Alex/Elle, though I doubt it will happen. Elle is so sweet, despite her prissy, strong persona. I relate to her a lot, especially when having to control a group of unruly sorts. I love them to death and would not change them for the world, but my friends can be very unorganized. xD

Re: 41 (OP)

(Anonymous) 2008-03-07 06:29 am (UTC)(link)
:) I can relate to that last sentence of yours, as well! For a few years now I've been the one to organize all of our yearly trips-- last year's (I planned my own trip to ACen, a group trip to a theme park, my own and a friend's two-week trip to the Gulf and back, and then another group trip to Otakon; the last three of those all taking place within the same four weeks...) nearly sent me over the edge into "crazy."

This year, I'm making them help out. :) Even if I'll still be doing most of the work myself.

Thanks for your response, though. ♥ After I submitted the secret, I kept going back and forth, wondering and fretting that people would think I was needlessly bashing a character and wondering if I should have even let it go in the first place. So, thanks. :) Here's hoping Elle gets a good ending.

As long as it's not K. Haruka. This'll get my lynched, but she draws Vincent as a prepubescent dickgirl ._. SHE DRAWS HIM AS A B-CUP. And he's always all T_T and unhappy and... well, all her doujins are of Cid basically raping him. :P I don't mind feminine!hot Vincent- hell, more is fine? But K. Haruka makes me shudder.

Pointless comment is pointless. :D

OP of 66

(Anonymous) 2008-03-06 02:56 am (UTC)(link)
Really? I've collected a lot of doujinshi, and K. Haruka's stuff has always seemed the LEAST uke-Vincent. I mean, yes, he's usually the uke, but a willing one who isn't afraid to punch Cid in the face if he's pissed off. Have you read Private Label (Example: Sora no Katachi, in which Cid forces healing sex on traumatized!crying!Vincent after discovering that Hojo tentacle-raped him) or Dr. Ochanomizu (example: DEAD PORN STAR EYES AAAAAH (http://i25.tinypic.com/30cu5mq.jpg))? I've always been under the impression that K. Haruka is the least of one's worries.

I could be wrong, of course. If there's better out there, I'd be happy to be enlightened as to it...er, for purely academic purposes, of course.

P.S.: Your icon is pretty~

#46 - I COMPLETELY AGREE!!!

I wish I knew the characters well enough to write the OT3. I have read all of the manga that have come to North America so far, but I still feel like I need to "get" the characters more before I even attempt writing. Mostly Himewari-chan.

Yo, it's called friends filters.

You can lock anything away from your f-list if you do a little research. That is what the FAQs are for.

8. I swear I've had this discussion with someone somewhere recently... But yes, I agree.
10. Y'know, I can't help seeing this and thinking of American comics back in World War II, with Superman and other heroes beating the crap out of Hitler and painfully stereotypically-drawn Japanese. It's vaguely embarrassing, really.

20. I DO TOO.

52. .........why don't you make a special filter just for you and your RP partner and post them on that? That's what I do with my own RP logs like that.
64. I cosplayed my first con at 21 last year.
66. No. If he wasn't asexual, I'd much rather he topped Reeve.

I suppose it is kind of embarrassing. But it still makes me happy when I have those fantasies. I think of what those fuckers do to women-- the allowances made for honor killings, the executions for being raped, the forced illiteracy, the beatings for wearing the wrong colors-- and it makes me want to watch them be mauled by powerful, independent people of the female persuasion. So yeah, it may be embarrassing and immature, but goddamn is it cathartic.

Look, I know it's a totally novel concept in fandom, especially FFVII fandom, but it is okay to not be girly and still be "gorgeous". Besides, did you even look at his original art?

69. Aww D: I didn't know he wasn't well-liked. I've always loved him. I never caught Buffy when it was on, but I got into his show as soon as it started airing, and followed it for quite awhile... I just have a thing for broody anti-heroes, though... It's a major weakness of mine. And Boreanaz is unnaturally sexy.

71. I was onboard with you until you got to the cum-guzzling part. I'm happy to know I will never have that "pleasure." LOL. I re-read my stuff occasionally, just to see what I did wrong, what I did right, and if I've progressed any.

[identity profile] rosehiptea.livejournal.com 2008-03-06 03:10 am (UTC)(link)
28. I really hate to say it but sometimes I think characters who aren’t “pretty” (or older characters) do get a lot more love in live-action fandoms than in anime. I sometimes with I were in more of them because of that. (I’m not trying to bash other anime fans. And I don’t even think it’s a huge tragedy that people like fictional characters because they’re “hot” – like them for whatever reason you want. But I still think you have a point.)

63. ;_;

65. People would really get angry that you wish you could marry a fictional character because they ship him with someone else? It’s not like you’re going to magically insert yourself into the series.

Don't feel bad. Duster is a paragon of awesome, and his limp is a part of that. There's a fair bit of Japanese fanart attesting to that fact, and some American, too.

Liking limps, scars, eyepatches and whatnot is one of the more understandable preferences--they show that a person has been strong. From an emotional standpoint, it connects with us on the level of "He must have done something heroic" or, in the case of pirates/thieves/what have you, "Ooh, bad boy/girl! Do want!". From a biological standpoint, it keys in on that ever-popular Darwinian imperative of survival of the fittest--if he/she can stand up to that kind of danger and live, they must have the genetic material OF THE GODS! Then, of course, there's the whole hurt/comfort angle, but that's a whole 'nother post...

As far as being straight goes, I think fandom has a tendency to challenge one's heterosexuality. Despite being open to the possibility of liking women for years, I never found the slightest glimmer of attraction in any female form...'til there was her (http://www.mangasland.com/animes/hellsing02.jpg). YES I SAID IT. OUT LOUD. HOORAY.

TL;DR: Duster rocks, don't beat yourself up. And if you think you're the only one in the world who thinks a limp is hot, watch your average House fangirl salivate at the sound of a cane.

10. This amuses me WAY MORE than it should. But you know Riza Hawkeye could take them all singlehandedly. With one bullet. Because she's Riza fucking Hawkeye.

28. Honestly, it's like my mind has two very distinct and separate categories -- one for anime/video game/manga-type pretty and one for real pretty. While I went through a bit of a phase when I was younger where I tried to find a guy that looked "like an anime character omg!" I guess my mind just realized how silly this was, smacked me upside the head, and now... well, long story short, that guy there, even if I can't see most of him, is pretty hot ;D

59. A lot of times, it comes down to the fact that people "never thought about it that way before" or something similar. I've had series show me things before that I never would have noticed because... well, it just never occurred to me to look at it that way.

63. Ohgod yes ;_; I've just gotten into his series and... it kills me that he's struggling with this.

65. Mmmnnn, Hakkai~ I used to have such a crush on him. ;D
