24. Is that a Sky High secret?! COOL!

28. I disagree, there plenty anime characters that aren't 'bishounen' that girls love to squee over and adore. Examples: Kazuma Kuwabara of Yu Yu Hakusho, Onizuka Eikichi of GTO, Piccolo of Dragonball/Z, Shishio Makoto of Rurouni Kenshin XDDD well I think all of them are super hott anyway ;D

51. PREACH IT SISTER! I love Atobe ^_^

52. Dude, yes there is! You can make a custom friends filter so that only you and your friend can see them, it's at the bottom next to the post button.

Just. um. imho.

[identity profile] lanjelin.livejournal.com 2008-03-06 04:31 am (UTC)(link)
No, actually, I think both fandoms are about the same. Many anime have extremely popular characters that aren't pretty, and live-action series have a lot of popular characters that might not be pretty (what I can see anyway), but are still called beautiful.

Also, in anime character design often reflect personality, and interesting/important characters are drawn as pretty or handsome (or noticable in other ways) as a way to draw the viewer's attention to them.

If a character with Mckay's personality were in an anime, he would probably have the narrow eyes, black hair, and noli-me-tangere attitude of one of the most popular anime biseinen types out there.

In short: anime fandom falls for personality just as much as western media fandom. It's just that those personality types are always good-looking in anime.

Re: 28

(Anonymous) 2008-03-06 04:45 am (UTC)(link)
I have to disagree. Most anime characters are pretty reagrdless of personality, even the villains. However, when one comes along that isn't pretty (example: Kuwabara in the YYH fandom) he or she will usually be ignored or bashed by about 90% of the females in an anime fandom. That's my experience, anyway. I can guarantee, if Kurama (pretty, cool type) and Kuwabara (typical shounen heart-of-gold delinquent) were to switch personalities, Kuwabara!Kurama would still be the more popular character of the two. Although I'm beginning to think it's mentality found in all animated media, not just anime.

26.- I agree with this secret so hard. I never saw chemistry between Satoshi and anyone worth mentioning until Hikari. Sure, I don't think it's OTP but if I have to choose one, that would most assuredly be my choice. And I've been watching the series and active in the fandom since before it even hit America! So, um. I don't really know if this helps you or makes you feel better i anyway, but even us vets like the new pairings and hate the old ones.

The old ones just suck.

(Kojiro/Musashi=OTP by the way)

54.- I'm very tempted to just start making secrets left and right even though I'm ... not secretive at all. I've only ever made one secret :( I want more fandom friends. And people to agree with me.

16 - First time when I was 13. I love JTHM. :D

24 - Sky High for the ultimate win!

31 - It was very... profound. 8P

Nrgh...ah, fuck it. I'm gonna reply to EVERY SINGLE ONE of these Apollo Justice secrets. Also, 47.

47. Who is that sexy, sexy man?

49. This is honestly confusing to me. Not just you, but everybody who complains that Hobo!Phoenix has lost all his morals. I thought it was made clear in the game that the only unethical thing Phoenix has done in the entire canon timeline was the forged evidence in the first case, which, okay, not exactly honorable, but the only people who know about that are Phoenix, Apollo, Kristoph, and possibly Trucy. If anything, taking the fall for his client like he did showed unnecessary accountability. I've been replaying the game lately, but sometimes I skim through the text kind of fast--is there something I'm forgetting about?

I do think Edgeworth would be horrified about what Phoenix's life has become, though. Also, hahaha Nonexistentfuckistan.

53. BAHAHAHAHAHA OMG I need there to be a flood of KRISTOPH WAS RIGHT secrets SO BAD right now. You have no idea.

55. I was all set to hate the game. Then I ended up loving it. (Still not as good as T&T, though. Maybe not even as good as JFA.) Sorry you didn't feel the same way. :( But you know, I think it's important to experience as much canon as possible in series you like, even if you have to ignore it afterwards. That way, you can get a better sense of the big picture, as well as always knowing what other people in the fandom are talking about.

68. I don't think I'm one of the people you're complaining about. IS IT CAN BE FANGIRLING KLAVIER TIEMS NAO?

72. I don't follow any RPs, but I'm replying to this secret because I'm replying to ALL the AJ secrets! Also, to say that I totally ship them too! And I have no idea why more people don't!

19. Buh? The only thing people should be discussing about the two Captain Jacks is how long it would take them to have sex after meeting.

20. Mmmmmyes.

21. I did exactly the same thing!

49. I like to think Edgey would believe in Phoenix, like Phoenix believed in him when he decided to become a defense attorney to find out what happened to Edgeworth. (Disclaimer: I have not actually played Gs4 yet, but I am intrigued by the hobo!Phoenix spoilers I've read.)

52. Why can't you lock them? Is the other RPer not on LJ?

First off, they've caught it early and the medication is helping, so for all intents and purposes Pratchett should be around and kicking for quite a while.

And Discworld won't ever die. After all, Mr. Pratchett is showing us specific episodes from the world, but when those episodes are over the world moves on and lives on. So long as somebody reads passages aloud to their roommate, either for their insight or their hilarity, or writes their English paper on satire and the novel with Sam Vimes and the legal/police system as an example, or simply thinks it would be hilarious to add legs to their suitcase instead of wheels, the Discworld will live on. After all, something only truly dies when it is forgotten, right?

13. ...not that I have any objections to more fans coming to FMA, but why is this a secret...?

21. Yeah, uh, that's not really surprising. Mary Sues are pretty natural extensions of normal childhood fantasies, especially girls. We don't dislike Mary Sues because they are inherently so omgevil; we dislike them because childhood fantasy indulgences don't make good shared fiction.

28. Sometimes I think so too. Then I meet people like you, and I know better.

10 OP

(Anonymous) 2008-03-06 06:38 am (UTC)(link)
Actually, this was more of a feminist secret. Those assholes in the secret just happen to be advocating (and enforcing) the complete subjugation of women. When I hear about the way that women can be executed for being raped, and that these men are violently in favor of such policies, it makes me want to beat them up. But I am weak and cowardly, so, in my fantasy world, I send my strong female protagonists to do it for me in the name of all oppressed women everywhere. I know it's silly, but it makes me feel better for a little while.

18: Ribbons is creepy.

...I seriously wonder if they'll ever tie that in. Like how in Gurren Lagann, Hobo!Simon's voice was the narrator's. Huh.

23: ...hee.

I still think 'Strike Freedom' is a rather anvilicious name. ..."Infinite Justice" ain't much better.

27: /m/ came up with a "Spiral Power" cocktail after Gurren Lagann. I still want to try it. Fandom drinks for all!

49: ...it's no secret I hate HoboNick. XD; and I do think that a lot of the stuff he talks about especially in the last two cases kind of goes against the ideals of 'justice' that 2-4 (among others) revolved around. AND Edgeworth probably isn't Mr. Forgiving.

...but while I think he wouldn't be happy, I don't think he'd 'walk away.' Phoenix didn't do it to him. And yeah, Edgey =/= Phoenix, but... eh, nevermind, can't put it into words.

53: "Evidence and facts should be more important than feelings and emotions?" Sure. The stuff about the riff-raff common people? Not so much >_>

...though the secret doesn't actually say what you think he was right ABOUT. So... room for interpretation much?

54: I haven't made any secrets in months for that exact reason.

55: Dammit, this secret spurred an IRC chat about IRC-as-Star-Wars and lightsabers make everything better. Also, Phoenix is kinda Obi-Wannish. And you do have the long lost... er, spoilery, so nevermind.

56: Covered this already.

58: Agreed so very hard. I really need to go back and fill some prompts this weekend.

63: ;_;

66: Um.

...he's still pretty fucking girly on the left.

Man, I wish I had that image of "JRPG fangirls' perception of manliness" that someone posted here a few months back. It was great.

68: Er... I honestly haven't seen anything like that from the AA fandom at all. Most of the criticisms of his character are about him being boring in court, him not getting development/fleshing out, etc... I can't say I've seen what you're saying, honestly. O_o huh.
