(Anonymous) 2016-03-05 12:27 am (UTC)(link)This is one of a handful of scenes in childhood movies that could be used to test the emotional intelligence of an AI, dude. If you're not affected in the least, you're still just a toaster.

But LABYRINTH. Labyrinth fucked me up royally. I'm convinced that the fire gang's eyeball thing is the origin of my gigantic eye squick. Eyeballs out of bodies, injuries to eyes, and even touching them (closeups of people putting in contacts, for instance). Nope nope nope.

Similarly, this picture of a dog in HR Giger-designed armor: ominous though it may be, the dog's face is all "The people must've put me in this for a good reason! I hope I get treats!"

(Anonymous) 2016-03-05 03:05 am (UTC)(link)Although for me, it's not the horse (which is, you know, a horse, and it's a good thing it's not in real distress) so much as the fact that the kid isn't really a great actor, so it comes across more ridiculously hammy than heart-wrenching.
I'm sure it's sad if you're really engaged in the movie, but if you're not, the acting is really laughably bad at some of the key emotional points.
