Okay so I read the comments to this before I read this post and thought "Oh, just FS being FS"...and then I actually read this.

"can someone tell me if this man has raped someone " ...... Uh. The entire thing is kind of a super hard open.

Personally, I go "Well, here's a white guy I like. They're probably problematic, I have no doubt about it, but we'll cross that road when we get to it and hope it isn't too bad."

Germaine Greer is noted for making anti-trans* statements (presumably, this is the root of Feo's objection to her).

You implied that Feo disliking Germaine Greer made Feo an MRA.

Therefore, the conclusion one is forced to draw is that you believe objecting to anti-trans bigotry like Greer's is tantamount to being an MRA. Similarly it would follow that being a feminist is incompatible - in your eyes - with criticizing bigoted statements like the ones Greer made.

4. Even if she's not perfect Germaine Greer is a fucking hero of feminism in it's early days. She doesn't have to be perfect, there are women alive and unraped today because of the stuff she stuck her neck out to do. She took literal bullets for women today and it is fucking bullshit that we turn on her just because she might have grown up with some different values.

This is such a weird argument. How is "they might have grown up with different values" an excuse for bigotry when growing up with particular values is what perpetuates bigotry in the first place? You wouldn't let that be a man's excuse for treating women as inferior, would it? No, you'd ask him to take responsibility for his stance even if it's not entirely his fault he has it.

You just jumped right into this conversation about back and white thinking in social justice circles, and...proceeded to make a black and white judgement about a by all means complex and thoroughly in-the-grey individual.

I would laugh, but it's actually sad.

Coming back to say that while I don't believe in disregarding or discrediting all of the very intelligent, on-the-mark things Greer has said and done in the feminist sphere, when I made my previous comment I did not realize that she has not only continued to hold transphobic opinions, she appears to have become more entrenched and vitriolic in her opinions on trans people. How disappointing.

I still wouldn't argue that she should "go fuck a cactus," as you put it, but I probably wouldn't have taken issue with your apparent fury towards her had I know that, rather than allowing her ignorance on trans matters to give way to open-mindedness over the decades as more information about transgenderism became available, she appears to have let her ignorance fester and turn to spite. :/
