37. I honestly don't care about the character one way or another, but his fans, especially ones like you, drive me up the wall.

Too big!1. Am I missing something? Or am I that fail of a feminist that I have no clue what the hell you're talking about?

37. it's a vicious circle. fans 'like me' make everyone else dislike him, which brings us to this.

it kind of amuses me, to be honest.

27. This is so sweet. ;__; Good luck! I hope something works out for you, even if its just a really strong friendship. ♥

Let's root for him together! (Gankutsuou fans unite, rah! ♥ )

(Anonymous) 2008-03-23 11:30 pm (UTC)(link)
And their video for the "9 in the afternoon"? It's an epic fail. I feel horrible because my taste in music looks nonexistent now (several of my friends got interested in P!atD after hearing my heated praise).

Also: I can't think of them as of PatD. What was wrong with the exclamation point?

Re: 13

[identity profile] schizo-niko.livejournal.com 2008-03-24 12:47 am (UTC)(link)
What was wrong with the exclamation point?

They wrote it that way in the beginning, so other people wrote it that way, and it bothered them.

That's all the logic I can put into it.

[identity profile] etherealtsuki.livejournal.com 2008-03-23 11:32 pm (UTC)(link)
04. Or the person trusts you enough to recommend some fanfiction to her. Unless, she gave you big clues that she's just follwing you to make you like her, but I don't think this is one of them. She prolly don't think she has the same level of taste as you and gets intimidated to rec you a fic. So chill, and take it as a compliment and ask if she can rec you stuff every time you rec her some stuff.

05. Fuck yeah, Brooklyn Italian plumber >>>> a blue hedgehog any day.

09. LOL whut? V for Vendetta was an adaptation of the comic book that came out in the 80s or so. I admit that they share the common theme of life in a totalitarian government. But the main characters of both title dealt with it differently. The all the main character in 1984 did was realize that you can think and Big Brother was wrong on a lot of shit, it was like a realization of that this is not life HAS to be. In V for Vendetta was about revenge, pure and simple. I love the 1984 book, one of my favorites actually, and the movie and I think they're both good (although I heard the comic of the movie is much better and I haven't gotten around that yet).

19. HOLY SHIT, IT'S A OTOMEN F!SECRET! Of course, this is gonna get an animu, it is popular in Japan right now. God, I want Asuka to be voiced by Tomokazu Seki or Kenichi Suzumura in their deeper voice range. Fuck yes, I can't wait for the next volume soon (I'm reading the Japanese volume releases). Oh god, why am I so excited about this? I expect a series maybe around Summer 2009 or so.

24. But Star Ocean 3 sucked. And yes, my sister and I got pretty far into the game, near the end of the game actually. It's so dull that we have no motivation to finish the thing. Maybe because Star Ocean 2 was so awesome and better than 3 really, really disappointed me (108 different endings in SO2 compared to 8 endings in SO3; less Private Actions and they're only Fayte-centered; making stuff is more of a fucking chore than it should be; plus the characters outside Abel, that nun/amazon chick and Cliff were good, the rest, especially the main girl, can die in a fire; the story was really, really boring on top of that). At the cost of maybe sounding pretentious, but I feel the most people who liked SO3 never played SO2 to understand why some fans bitched about SO3's crappiness. Although, the voice acting in 3 is better than 2, I'll give it that. I'm really hoping that SO4 will bring back the things that made SO2 great and a better cast of characters.

25. Prepare to live for the next 20-30 years because Berserk is ABOUT HALFWAY done. I'm serious.

31. I don't think it's wankish. It's natural to want the artist to finish the comic as long you're not harassing. I think it does come with a certain responsibility with a webcomic to release in a somewhat timely manner, especially if you want to keep your fans. Unless some factors like mental health and IRL issues are taking over your time.

32. Ouch. Can the person like someone because they genuinely like him despite his popularity? I really didn't follow American Idol much this season, but the guy is good.

37. Err, there isn't much to his character though... I feel pretty indifferent to Matt to be honest.

38. Fuck yeah, Tokyo Marble Chocolate! One of my favorite anime ever. LOL, I never thought of synch'ing the episodes though. That's really cute.

48. D:

51. No you wouldn't like it better, trust me.

Too Big Secret!10. Fuck yeah, that doujin almost, ALMOST made me ship human!Mokona/Watanuki. But that doujin was awesome, nonetheless.

[identity profile] etherealtsuki.livejournal.com 2008-03-23 11:47 pm (UTC)(link)
Ugh, sentence typo fail, I meant "the only good characters were Abel, nun/amazon chick and Cliff".

19

[identity profile] ex-peacebone459.livejournal.com 2008-03-23 11:35 pm (UTC)(link)
19.Uh...only at vol.2? Do you mean translated wise? Only the first volume (plus first chapter of vol.2) has been translated, but the thing is going into vol.6 and ongoing (or was it 5?). And its not that new of a series.

late reply is late lol

OP: 19

(Anonymous) 2008-03-24 02:46 am (UTC)(link)
In Singapore the official publisher has it up to Vol 2 in English (secret is English cover lol) . In Japan it's already up to vol 5 ongoing to vol 6, I believe. It'll still be a long while before anime happens though, although 2009 might not be a too far off hope. :)

9. I agree. Not with the Natalie Portman bit because I think she's a good actress who was unbelievably shit as Evie but really, that was only one of the many problems I had with that movie. And not with the everyone who likes it is ignorant thing either. Just the general sentiment that the movie was crap. That said, I'm referring to the two movie remakes of the original text as independent works and claiming that the V for Vendetta movie was obnoxiously ripping off and capitalising on the visual motifs of the earlier Nineteen Eighty-four film. And you know, it wouldn't have pissed me off that they were so blatantly referring to it with the art direction and the casting of John Hurt if VfV had been good, or competent, or if the Wachowski brothers had been transparent about their desire to make an awesome looking action film devoid of any real, well thought out political commentary. But no, they had to invoke a much better cinematic dystopia to validate their own vision once they (presumably) realised it was empty of nuance, substance, relevance etcetc. It wasn't a homage, they didn't add anything to my memories of a superior film. It just felt like a cheap shortcut to me and it hindered me from liking that movie even more.

That said, I don't think it's total rubbish (or a remake, as you put it). The action scenes were well executed and Stephen Fry was great. Stephen Fry always brings his A game, bitches.

[identity profile] agnes-perdita.livejournal.com 2008-03-23 11:39 pm (UTC)(link)
Damnit, that first bit of the paragraph was meant to go Not with the Natalie Portman bit because I think she's a good actress who was unbelievably shit as Evie. And not with the everyone who likes it is ignorant thing either.

9. Yeah, 1984's a great dystopian novel, but that doesn't mean it's the only one that's allowed to be good. And yeah, a lot of (probably most of) the sci-fi/dystopian stuff that's come out since has been influenced by it. That doesn't make it some holy thing that can't be surpassed.
Also, the graphic novel it's based on is a lot more complex than the movie. You should probably read it before you attack the film as a 1984 rip-off.

39. Ahahahaha my parents bought this and watched it with me! But for me, A Muppet Christmas Carol will always be number 1.

03. Haha, sometimes I do that, too. It feels kinda like RPing to me.

24. Call me a dork or whatever, but I was so saddened by the use of an Aladdin icon. :(

36. I LOL'd, omg. XD

37. I'm a Matt fan, too, but I do have to agree with everyone when they say that there's not much canon stuff to work with. Perhaps it feels like a personal affront when you've tried to develop his character, too?

45. Well, I guess everyone wants to turn back time at some point and prevent things from happening. It's probably for the best that we can't, let alone that Death Notes don't exist in our world - but I'm sorry about your cousin. :(

51. I grew up watching the English dub and fell for it then. I still have fond memories of it, though I haven't rewatched it for a long time now. English dubs aren't all that bad - they're the ones that got most of us hooked on our respective fandoms in the first place. :D

09. I don't get it. 1984 is one of my favorite books and I liked V for Vendetta. The only real thing they have in common is the Big Brother aspect... your anger over the subject seems unwaranted.

9. ... I first read 1984 when I was twelve. Same thing with Animal Farm. I've read both books at least three times each, 1984 maybe four. I loved V For Vendetta and thought it was fucking amazing. It's one of my favorite movies. So what does this make me, then?

14 and 15. ... HAHAHAH positioning.

36. Well THAT'S an interesting mental association I'm going to carry around for the rest of forever! also, I lol'ed.

09.1984 ftw. And I definitely agree here too.

14....I'm really curious. Whats this from?

24.Shit. I fucking love Star Ocean 3. Asdfg. Lovely fandom.
Can I have a link to the entry?

50. :'( Augh,really? I loved that movie to bits.
*I respect your opinion, but I'm sort of curious as to why you disliked it*

:/ Everything after he went into the war seemed like a lot of cheap attempts to get an emotional reaction from the audience, and the ending was nothing more than a lot of "'sad' but convieniently coincidental tragedies."

I think the hype just worked the movie up to a point where I was expecting MORE. I mean, the whole first part was amazing, I'll give it that, but I felt like the rest of it took a sharp, downward slope.

It's a shame, too, because I REALLY wanted to like the movie.

What the fuck?

No, seriously, what the fuck?

It's a roleplaying game. A huge one, at that, where many different people play many different characters.

Even if more people there play male characters than female characters, I just can't see how there can be any sort of women-bashing trend there.

[identity profile] weyrdchic.livejournal.com 2008-03-23 11:59 pm (UTC)(link)
#9: Uhm, I've read it. It's a fantastic book. It's also distinctly different from V for Vendetta. Unless you think it's the same because it's a dystopia, in which case I wonder if you've read Brave New World or Farenheit 451 or The Handmaid's Tale or A Clockwork Orange or Logan's Run or The Giver or the Uglies books or...

09. I feel dumber for having read this secret.

TB6. I agree wholeheartedly. People should just ship whatever the hell they want. What I do take offense to, and will argue against, is when fangirls/fanboys (on either side, but I've seen way more of it on the Zutara side) horribly misconstrue canon in order to assert their ship's correctness. This drives me up the wall.
