Why are bi/gay women so much more into older women than bi/straight men are

Re: Questions and Advice

(Anonymous) 2016-07-12 11:25 pm (UTC)(link)
A difference thing, is my theory.

When you're both women, an age difference is a difference that can be exciting. When you're an older man and an older woman, it's a similarity that might be boring.

I notice gay men like large age difference same-sex couples more than straight women do. Lots of straight women are attracted to older men but only if they "look" young in the Hollywood way as opposed to literally going for men 20+ years older than them but that's not uncommon in gay relationships.

SA

By that I mean, lots of women crush on Hollywood actors 20+ years older than them but most of them don't enter into relationships with men IRL that are that much older but in the gay circles that's not uncommon. So my theory is that the age gap is a thing they can make a significant difference when the genders are the same.

I think part of it is also a reproduction thing, sad to say. In a m/f relationship the topic of biological children is going to come up sooner or later (also, a 20-something guy dating a 30-something woman, might have to concede to have kids w earlier than he wants to, while a 30-something woman and a 40-something guy might see that as less of an issue, provided they both want kids)

er well it's also that there are much fewer gay men statistically and many of the older generations were lost

What if Bigfoot exists, but is less a monster and more akin to early humanoids? Like a really tall Lucy or even Homo Erectus?

Not that I actually believe in Bigfoot for a minute, just a thought.

Re: Questions and Advice

(Anonymous) 2016-07-12 11:50 pm (UTC)(link)
You run into the same issues as you would if Bigfoot were a monster, though: total lack of documentary evidence.

Re: Questions and Advice

(Anonymous) 2016-07-13 01:47 am (UTC)(link)
What else would Bigfoot be? Some kind of bear?

Re: Questions and Advice

(Anonymous) 2016-07-13 06:37 pm (UTC)(link)
I'm sure all of our modern bigfoot lore -did- stem from early human sightings of other hominids, probably homo gigantopithecus, but there's no way they're still around

Should I dip into my savings to finish a costume for SDCC? It wouldn't be that much and I really want to finish it, but I'd have to order supplies today to make sure of finishing by the con. I'll have more money in very soon and can repair the damage and then some--I don't have a credit card, so I raid savings instead, but usually for more important stuff than this. ... It feels important to me, though. I want to be proud of this one.

I say go for it, as long as you can make it up soon. You likely have already invested quite a bit of time and money in the project, right? Might as well have something to show for it!

I am the anon who asked how to handle my close sister moving away. I am still trying to get over the idea and moving from the depression stage to the acceptance stage. But I am trying! I wanted to thank everyone who offered advice.

Renting a Large Place On Vacation

(Anonymous) 2016-07-13 12:53 am (UTC)(link)
I am thinking of taking a trip with 3-4 people either to DC or Seattle (maybe Dollywood). Has anyone here used AirBnB? What was your experience? What other options are there for housing that many people (some of who will be couples) other than a hotel?

My friend actually rented a place through AirBnB for her baby shower. (She has a small apartment and some non-local friends.) I don't know all of the ins and outs, but she seemed pretty happy with it, and it was a really nice place.

Specific Question For Bakers!

[personal profile] kaijinscendre 2016-07-13 01:50 am (UTC)(link)
I want to make this recipe this weekend. http://www.jocooks.com/bakery/cakes/lemon-magic-cake/

But I only have a 9x9 pan. Should I try making this with a 9x9 pan instead of buying an 8x8 I may only use once?

I would just go for it but I am a risk taker when it comes to baking

Looks like I am taking a risk.

Go for it. With a larger pan, you might worry about the edges cooking faster and the middle staying wobbly, but with such a large variation in cooking time to start with plus the cake is supposed to be pudding-ish on the bottom anyway, it'll probably be fine. I've always meant to try making one of these and never gotten around to it; the idea to divide the sugar and use half for the egg whites sounds sensible to me. Good luck, and if you make it, say how it turned out!

Will do! Thank you. :D

You can.

(Anonymous) 2016-07-13 03:15 am (UTC)(link)
If you don't change the recipe, just be careful of the cooking time - with a larger pan, the batter is more spread out and thinner and will cook faster.

But you can also change the recipe by multiplying by about 1.25 (if you want the same depth, you just divide the areas 81/64 = 1.265625):

•5 eggs (separate yolks from whites) at room temperature
•1 tsp vanilla extract
•188 g (~1 cup) sugar
•10 Tbsp (1 1/4 stick) butter, melted
•145 g (5 oz) of all purpose flour
•2 cup + 2 Tbsp milk lukewarm
•5 Tbsp fresh lemon juice
•zest from one lemon
•powdered sugar for dusting cake

I love you. I am terrible at math and never would have been able to figure that out for myself

No one is going to see this, and I'll probably ask again at the normal time when more people can see it.

Going to a potluck/pitch-in this weekend. I said I'd bring a fruit salad. Is it more cost efficient or easier to buy one from the grocery store or just make it myself?

Re: Questions and Advice

(Anonymous) 2016-07-13 02:04 pm (UTC)(link)
Depends. How many grocery stores do you have access to, where do you live? I live in southern California so fruit is pretty cheap and prepared fruit salad is pricey, but it's high summer so it's stone fruit, melon, and berry season in the whole northern hemisphere. I happen to think they make a nicer fruit salad than the sad orange segment, grape, apple, and cantaloupe mess that sometimes ends up in ready made stuff. And unless you're, I dunno, pitting cherries without a cherry pitter or using a melon baller or something, it doesn't take that long. Good luck.

Thank you kindly anon for replying! I do hope you get to see my response.

I actually have a lot of grocery stores to choose from, standard to the speciality kind. In fact I think in about a 10 mile radius, I have a choice of about 9-10, not counting the multiple locations for one store. Wow I never realized that.

I have not thought about the cost of the fruit and you are absolutely correct to make me think of it! I'm in the midwest and we're just getting into the start of melon season, blueberries are strong right now. I will do that when I'm at the store, compare the cost of the fruit from ready made to buy on my own and put together.

Thank you!
