I feel like that action set pieces are balanced with the quieter character scenes.

It is the first week of a new semester. And yesterday I had a terrible throbbing headache. Eventually I had to leave my last class of the day 5 minutes early at a run, because of what I thought might be food poisoning. I got off the trolley way too many times, making beelines for the nearest bushes/trashcan, before I made it home.

And then I woke up sick, sore throat, congestion, the works. I feel like tiny gnomes are ice skating down my throat on razor blades, I can't breathe through my nose, my chest feels like a goblin made of radioactive mucus built a nest in it, and everything tastes like snot. And I have to work all weekend.

Ugh.

Yeah, I guess. It just seems odd that someone expresses a wishful fantasy type secret and the first comment is chiming in to let them know that while the fantasy is impossible, they can still do [a bunch of stuff they might already be doing already and anyway has nothing to do with the wish fulfillment part]. It's well meaning but a bit, er... not sure how to put it.

It's like if I said how much I really wished I could travel to Paris but I can't afford it and you said well, you could always take a nice walk in the park with a baguette, because walking is fantastic exercise! You're not wrong, but I'd still feel a little miffed like you're trying to squelch my dream with more mundane practicalities and it's not the time or place.

Yeah, this. The show has mostly avoided "bad things are okay when the Designated Heroes do them, for no other reason than that they are the Designated Heroes."

The only times it's failed at that, that I can think of, are a couple of the Lars episodes. Which are obnoxious, but don't overshadow the whole rest of the series.

I'm having shooting pains in my heels. Every morning, my left one hurts so much when I get up that I can hardly put any weight on it.

Plus, I was so excited for opera studio this term...but we've been assigned our arias, and while the rest of the class will be preparing ones from operas by Massenet, Mozart, Donizetti and Menotti, I've been assigned "When Frederic Was a Little Lad" from The Pirates of Penzance. I guess at the bottom of my heart, I don't think of Gilbert and Sullivan as "real" opera, which I suppose is snobbish, but if even one other person in the class were doing something from The Mikado or whatever, I wouldn't feel so singled out or so childishly disappointed. And I really don't feel in a position to say anything about it to the instructors, because I was lucky to be admitted to the class at all.

But... SU doesn't really have protagonist-centered morality? Certainly not by the standard definition, which would be "Steven does bad things and gets forgiven for them because he's the protagonist." He tries his best to be kind and understanding to everyone he meets, even the antagonists, and sometimes that works out well (like with Peridot), sometimes it works out poorly (like with Jasper and Eyeball), and sometimes it just complicates the situation even more (Bismuth, Lapis, and arguably Centipeedle).

Steven does still see the world in a kind of black and white way, but he's a kid, after all. He's inherited a 5000 year old war from his mother, and there's a lot he doesn't know. Season 3 has been all about learning the things he didn't know and how he reconciles that with what he thinks is right.

Same anon--oh, and I lost my new eyeglasses Monday. Went to the campus lost and found, got them back--they look like I left them in an acid bath. The resin earpieces looked eaten away, the glass was mottled, and they were found at a part of campus that I haven't been to since last semester, but I got them over the summer.
