I wonder if they feel the same way about black man/white woman pairings?

(Anonymous) 2016-09-07 11:10 pm (UTC)(link)
Short answer: no.

Those are super rare in media. Like, notoriously uncommon, even more uncommon than white man/black woman.

Here's the short version: Something something fetishized something something white girl entitlement.

To be fair, interracial relationships are horribly underrepresented in media. I bet some people might be hypocritical about it, but I can understand the same person criticizing white dudes but still supporting the representation of mixed couples.

I wish it was more POC interracial couples instead of white man / WOC, but admittedly I don't watch a lot of TV.

ONTD also acts like everyone who doesn't ship Barry/Iris only ever doesn't do it for racist reasons. I don't ship Barry with anyone and I shipped Iris with Eddie pretty hard tho. To the point I lost interest in season 2. Can't say that on ONTD tho cause omg I don't ship the black female character with the white LEAD character. *shrugs*

(Anonymous) 2016-09-07 11:27 pm (UTC)(link)
Haha, I know. Iris and Eddie were great and I was so disappointed when they got rid of him and pushed the Barry/Iris ship (which I can't stand, since I like them much better as siblings).

(Anonymous) 2016-09-08 04:11 am (UTC)(link)
I don't ship Barry/Iris because Barry and Joe were assholes to her the whole first season. Iris/Eddie was better.

(Anonymous) 2016-09-07 11:22 pm (UTC)(link)
lol, true.

I can see why comic book fans would be excited about Barry/Iris, though.

Not every fandom / fan is in lockstep? It's surely OK to criticize the majority of positive (or even just interesting) roles being white men (by an overwhelming majority, shut up Todd), and still want more POC and mixed race representation. They're two different things, in a way. I don't hate white dudes, I just like seeing more variety. In general, I'm glad when there are more mixed race couples on TV, but it doesn't have to be white guy / black woman. Just, in general, I think more representation of difference races/looks/relationships helps people to adjust to things, whether they're older viewers who can see things modeled on TV that never were accepted "back in their day" or younger viewers who can then grow up seeing different people and relationships, and maybe counteracting that racist heritage they're growing up around. (You know it's still out there, it hasn't disappeared....)

(Anonymous) 2016-09-08 12:43 am (UTC)(link)
Yeah, but ONTD is definitely in lockstep.

(Anonymous) 2016-09-08 01:00 am (UTC)(link)
I get the hypocrisy there, but ONTD is not a monolith.

Also I think part of it is that black women are more often treated poorly by the writing on screen, and in many fandoms (Bonnie on The Vampire Diaries) so, to have a black female love interest "prized" by the narrative, and by the lead male character, even if they are usually white, is still seen as a "win" for many black female viewers.

(Anonymous) 2016-09-08 01:47 am (UTC)(link)
ONTD just likes to bitch about everything for the sake of it. Every time there is drama with a celeb they demand an apology then whenever there is an apology they still drag them. They are never satisfied with anything.

Reading ONTD comments gave me cancer.

(Anonymous) 2016-09-08 05:44 am (UTC)(link)
hopefully you'll die soon then so we won't have to listen to this much whining again

That's because ONTD has been taken over by tumblr and SJWs. I used to like it there.

it's not inconsistent at all to criticize white men/male characters while still being happy for interracial representation

I thought ONTD just covered celebrity gossip.

(Anonymous) 2016-09-08 12:19 pm (UTC)(link)
ONTD covers the latest episodes of popular airing shows and oftentimes has live viewing posts for them

(Anonymous) 2016-09-08 01:52 pm (UTC)(link)
your thinly veiled prejudice is showing, OP

this is like one of those "fuck men for being rapists" discussions and then someone always has to come out of the woodwork and say "not all men!"

and it's like... no shit sherlock. that's not the point.

and this is not a simple matter of hypocrisy either.

...whenever [a white male] gets paired with a black woman on a show [ONTD] act[s] like it's the second coming

it's pretty obvious you're not a person of color, so I don't have much energy for this. if you're puzzled by something, the least you could do is research into it before mocking people for feeling some type of way about things that affect them irl. a simple googling of something like "problems with interracial couples" would have given you tons of context to work with.

no one gets shit on on the same massive scale as PoC women. especially in the black community, guys will fuck black women (and asian women are seen as sex toys, by men of all races), but they don't wanna date or marry them because white women are seen as a status symbol. you think it's a coincidence black celebrity men like dating white women? or that media frequently portrays black male/white female couples instead of vice versa (which does happen, rarely, and is by no means the norm)?

so is it really that strange that when fictional white male/PoC female couples are represented in media, some people might exhibit happiness?

but you know what? do your own research.

and lmao if you think ONTD is too over the top for you, you better stay away from lipstick alley and black twitter

hurray for the oppression olympics

(Anonymous) 2016-09-09 09:14 pm (UTC)(link)
I thought that community hates black women? The whole narrative they have seems to be they firstly love them to show they are all for diversity but they waut for the moment to hate on them for some reason.
