I'll take taylor swift secrets over all this fandom shit I've never heard of. At least I'm semi aware of most of Swift's music.

I just don't get why everyone shits on her for writing breakup songs and songs about her exes, when guys have been doing it for decades and no one cares when they do it.
¯\_(ツ)_/¯

I dunno, she seems to deliberately make it an art form, if you'll pardon the pun.

I realize almost every musician who's ever released an album has wrote at least one love song about a relationship, but for some reason, they don't make as big a deal about it.

This.

Hell, she's not even the first female songwriter to write songs about specific men. Carly Simon's "You're So Vain" and Alanis Morissette's "You Oughta Know" come to mind right off the bat. So that makes the obsession over her doing that same thing even more ridiculous.

I think a certain amount of it is because she leans into a bit of a Roman a clef thing that forces people to analyze it. I also think some people just want to hate Taylor Swift.

OP

(Anonymous) 2016-09-13 11:54 pm (UTC)(link)
I'm not "shitting on her for writing breakup songs." I'm laughing at her for acting like she is just so picked on because people have noticed a very clear and near-universal trend in her breakup songs.

(Anonymous) 2016-09-14 12:00 am (UTC)(link)
Because Taylor "never asked to be part of this narrative" Swift has built a career out of including other people in HER narrative and victimizes herself when called out on her brand of white feminism. Just look at the story she's trying to push since her and hiddles broke up. That he loved her too much and that she's always been a private person when it came to her (obvious PR) relationships nvm that she threw a fit about CH not going to the granny's with her.

It's not what she does. It's the hypocrisy. Which is why people initially liked Blank Space because they thought it showed self-awareness. and then she opened her big fat mouth and showed she really is a self absorbed twit who picks enemies that she knows the public wouldn't side with.

You clearly weren't there when (for example) the whole world mocked Justin Timberlake for his breakup-from-Brittney song Cry me a River.

And um, the singer is not the song.

People say this all the time but personally I know more songs where she's blaming herself than ones where she's blaming the guy. Maybe I've just heard a really weird sampling of her songs.

(Anonymous) 2016-09-13 11:42 pm (UTC)(link)
It's weird to me that people listen to these pop princesses. They don't live in the same world as everyone else. I just can't empathize with them or their music.

It's catchy and poppy?

(Anonymous) 2016-09-13 11:46 pm (UTC)(link)
I can empathize with a hell of a lot of people whose lives had nothing to do with mine. What the hell are you talking about where the ability to do that, both as creators of art and as spectators, isn't a basic capacity of humanity? Shit.

Of the songs I can think of, she's been dumped by a guy who's a jerk, not by a guy who didn't appreciate her finer qualities.

My impression is that she's not very choosy who she'll go out with so it's no surprise that she doesn't end up with long-term relationships.

(Anonymous) 2016-09-13 11:51 pm (UTC)(link)
TBH, most young people aren't very discerning. It takes time to figure out what sort of people you're likely to mesh with. She hasn't really had any more messy breakups than a number of her peers, they're just a lot more public since she's a celebrity and tends to date within her circle.

honest question - but does she really dress as Odette/Swan Princess in this video?

(Anonymous) 2016-09-13 11:56 pm (UTC)(link)
yes

(Anonymous) 2016-09-13 11:59 pm (UTC)(link)
In a playful way, yeah.

(Anonymous) 2016-09-14 12:21 am (UTC)(link)
I always thought the line was more poking fun at people gossiping/obsessing about her love life a lot, which I think is fine. Yes, she does invite some of it because she also writes songs about (ostensibly) her love life, but I mean it's not like it's a bitter or furious line in the song. I don't particularly like her and I do feel like she can be pretty two-faced, like in her various feuds, but I don't have a problem with her liking to bone handsome gentlemen at her leisure.

I don't think you're focusing on the right part of that sentence.

(Anonymous) 2016-09-14 12:53 am (UTC)(link)
I do agree that if you write about your break-ups in songs, people are going to talk about them. But I think it's the "too many" in that sentence that is actually the judgment that's being protested. And I have absolutely heard that judgment of her. Should other people get to say any number is too many for someone else? I don't think so.
