43. Jesus Christ, people, just give it up already! WHO GIVES A DAMN IF A SHIP BECOMES CANON?! There's still fanfic, you know. I didn't lock myself in my basement and refuse to talk with the outside world even though I cringed every time I saw a Zuko/Mai scene. If something like that makes you want to give up the series, then go right ahead.

Liking rapefic but not liking RL rape: Understanding that some sexual fantasies are meant to be just that, fantasies--because they involve hurting other human beings in RL.

Liking slash but not liking homosexuality or thinking gay people should have rights: Being a privileged asshole who thinks queers are okay as long as they're being entertaining to straight people, but shouldn't actually get to get married, have children, have job security or any of that good stuff you take for granted, despite the fact that they're NOT hurting anyone (even if you believe that they're hurting themselves because you interpret your religion that way--and yes, that is a choice, not everyone interprets your religion that way, no matter what religion you have--they're not hurting anyone else!)

26. The homophobes don't get flak because they can differentiate fiction from reality. They get flak because they do so in a way that manages to be both bigoted and exploitative at the same time.

Think about it. Would you expect anyone to accept that it's okay that some guys watch lesbian porn and hate/harass/assault real lesbians, just because they "differentiate fiction from reality"?

Ugh, agreed. I'm a fan of both Rossiu and Suzaku, and the hate they get in fandom is completely out of proportion to what they actually do in the show. They have differing methods/opinions from the main characters, and are obviously emotionally close to said characters (Simon forgave Rossiu and even BROKE TIME to save him, for fuck's sake), but apparently in fandom it all translates to OMGEVILHATE BASHBASHBASHBASHRANTRANT RAAAAAAGH. >
