Not in the fandom, though I recently watched the first episode. Not quite my cup of tea.

But I will say not everyone treats everyone they are sexually attracted to the same way. I'm bi, and I don't flirt the same way around men and women. Plus - just guessing from the first episode this is a rival ship - rival romances are hardly going to include traditional flirting, are they? It doesn't necessarily exclude sexual interest.

But again, I have no horse in this race.

I think you'll find that OP is a cool-headed, rational analyst of the series who is in no way influenced in how they read it by their shipping preferences. They're just looking at the objective facts. Unlike people who have other shipping preferences are of course crazy and so goddamn dumb and making everything up.

Never saw an episode of Voltron and don't wanna get into it from what I've seen of fandom, but why can't people ship what they want? Pretty much every damn character in everything ever is canon heterosexual and you are not enlightened for pointing this obvious fact out. Even shippers probably know but fandom is supposed to be fun and imaginative so just let people enjoy stuff the way they wanna.

No, they can only ship Klance and the Klancer approved ship Shallura. Sheith is pedophilia and you're a pedo if you ship it, and Kallura is also problematic because Keith is coded gay and you're ereasing his sexuality when you ship him with a woman

Okay, I have a multi-ride pass for the "Lance is bi" train, but I do understand why someone could headcanon him as straight. I will admit that if Lance does fall in love with a girl, though, I hope it's Pidge he falls for, especially since they had such awesome moments in Season 2.

Granted, I multiship Lance with way too many characters in Voltron, so I do have a different perception of these shipping wars than most.

He's the Straight Larry of Voltron. I have no problem with people headcanoning him as bi, but all those Klance shippers expecting their ship to be canon and Lance to come out as canonly bisexual are just setting themselves up for disappointment. If you're gonna latch onto the possibility of a character being not-straight, at least do it with somebody whose main character trait isn't "wannabe casanova who constantly flirts with cute girls". The worst thing is that they're already crying about queerbaiting, even though the writers have never promised LGBT represetation and nothing in the show suggests anyone is gay or bi, least of all Lance.

Are you me, OP? Lance comes across as pretty much completely straight to me, too. And at least in the tumblr section of the fandom, I wouldn't dare say that aloud for fear of being called homophobic (nevermind that I'm bisexual and usually like to headcanon characters as bi). But the closest Lance gets to seeming remotely interested in a guy is his admiration for Shiro, and even that's stretching a bit.

As for Klance, I am utterly mystified by its popularity. Lance is just kind of always a jerk to Keith throughout the show. Even the famous "WE HAD A BONDING MOMENT" scene read to me as Lance being a jackass and throwing Keith's attempt at friendship back in his face. I know that rival ships are popular, but they aren't even rivals. It's just Lance with a bug up his ass and Keith being like "WTF why are you such a jerk?"

This fandom is a complete delusional mess. It boggles my mind that people proclaim it to be so gay when, even wearing yaoi goggles, there are literally no ho yay moments whatsoever. Hell, there's barely any romance, period. And yet I'm seeing Klance shippers claim it's canon???? Fucking bizarre.

Yeah he seems uber straight to me, I don't get Klance.

OTOH Shiro and Keith, now...that I can go for. The moments they've had seem super sweet and no-toxic. OTOH a big age difference (which I don't see mentioned in canon?) would make it much less cool. They seemed to know each other from the academy so I'm assuming they're within two years of each other or something close to that.

But then we have Keith saying "you're like a brother to me"...

But Keith and Lance don't seem to really share any moments? I guess people find them attractive together or play up the obsessive rivals aspect? (That's all in Lance's head though, isn't it?)

I'm bi myself and I think the attitude of "well every character COULD conceivably be bi" is dumb as fuck because it is always, without exception, done solely for the purpose of gratuitous buttsex. It doesn't matter if the character in question demonstrates considerable interest in women in canon, suddenly he will want the dick and only the dick and all of that interest in women will just vanish without any sort of explanation as to why.

Just once, I would like to see someone interpret a character as bi and have them actually be bi instead of may-as-well-be-totally-gay.

I stopped paying the least bit of attention to Voltron when the Keith/Lance shippers invaded one of my small fandoms just to gush about how the main character looks like their ships ass baby. Which is a real shame, I liked it before then.

If there is one character in Voltron I think can be LGBT I think it would be Pidge, but honestly you can't decide a fictional character's sexuality just from what we was shown because they are fictional, unless the creators says it explicitly and even then you can easily ignore it and think of them as whatever you want because again, fictional character. I can see where you got the interpretation and honestly I think the show is going that direction (and I can see Lance/Allura being cute if they both get more developed) but I can also see Lance being a bisexual who hasn't realized yet, I didn't realize my own attraction to other women until 21. My point is that it's your headcanon, as long as you don't scream at other people for thinking differently you are fine, ignore the fandom or at least the nasty part of it.

I have to say I'm sad that everytime Voltron comes up on here it's always wanky, the secrets not about shipping barely have any comments. The second season just came out and there are new things to discuss but it all comes down to Klance and shipping, can't we at least talk about something else? Like where did the cow go and who milk it every morning, or whether Keith's dad real or created from Keith's broken memories.

...one thing I haven't yet seen brought up is also the fact that this is technically a kids show. Yes, we had Korrasami (sort of, it was more word of God than actually shown), and things like Steven Universe, but lesbians are more socially acceptable than gay men in media, sadly.

When the creators were asked if they would consider exploring a gay relationship, we got a safe answer which was neither a yes or not, which...to me says no, they don't really have it in mind at the moment.

Maybe they'll change their minds, but I'm sure not holding my breath.
