I had a dream last night where I was refuting someone's theory that a popularly shipped pairing in my fandom is secretly another character's parents. Not because the pairing isn't canon, I made sure to specify, because it still could have happened between them at some point. My argument involved character backstories and throwaway lines in canon and other hints that might or might not be relevant, and I ended up with two reasons, one definite, the other very likely but not without room for me being wrong. It was very detailed and specific. And entirely accurate, now that I'm awake to fact-check it.

This isn't even the first time I've had a dream about correcting someone who had a blatantly wrong idea about a canon.
A different canon.
My subconscious is a neeerrrd.

Fast walk vs light jog

2.8-3 mph is currently my top treadmill speed, and I feel like I'm right on the cusp between a fast walk and a light jog, but I just can't seem to make the jump. Ivve come close, but it ended up being more of a little hop before I lost my nerve. But I feel like the fast walk is harder on my shins.

Writing Thread

I've been in a writing slump and signed up for an online workshop to get me out of it. It seemed like it was going to be great, until I saw the first assignment, which is basically to lay out the entire story, including title, timeline (like the internal timeline, how long it takes the two characters to fall in love or find the murderer, etc.), setting, genre (easy enough), target publishers (???), and word count. I've never completed a novel and I'm not good at this approach to starting a story. The 2nd assignment is already up where we have to break down our character by how they act under pressure, what their belief system is, etc. I'm great at analyzing characters in books I read but when I'm asked to come up with it out of thin air I'm like "Fuck, I dunno?!"

I'm not complaining because the workshop doesn't line up with my style; I'm in it because I want to change my writing, get out of the pit I usually find myself in, and finish something for once. I'm just...not sure how to jump in.

Does anyone else struggle with this type of pre-writing? Anybody excel at it? Talk about how you start a story here. Or talk about anything else writing-related.

Intense jealousy

A girl I know and haven't spoken to for years messaged me about what she can do to enter my work field. I don't know why, but I just felt so jealous at the thought of her being given these opportunities. I wish so strongly that she never asked me...

But I didn't let that stop me from giving her all of the information, directing her to the correct contact links, and also telling her to let me know if she hasn't heard back in 1 week, because I will contact my boss about her myself.

I'm not a jealous person, and I've never been one to be controlled by petty emotions... but wow. This is truly a burning in my heart. What the hell is wrong with me? This girl has done nothing wrong to me, ever. And I have never felt weakened by helping people the way I do now, so this is very new.

The only thing I can think of is, back when I did know her, we were still teenagers and she was involved in these group of girls that were so close and adorable with eachother, but I was never involved in that group because their dynamic was too... 'popular frenemies' to me (surprise, surprise - none of them talk anymore). She is also always one step ahead of me, I think. But why do I care? Why do I feel so defeated by the thought of her success? She is a harmless girl who is loved by many. But I know that it is her specifically, and I have never felt this way about anyone before.

tl;dr My heart literally burnssss with jealousy over the thought of this girl succeeding, and I don't want to help her. I OF COURSE 100% will in any way I can. But I just don't want to.
