Stressed. And I feel guilty because I snapped at an employee today, and while they were being annoying and pushing an issue we had already covered, I still feel bad. I don't like to be that type of person who lets the stress get to me and make me snappy. :(

Had a job interview, it went well, but my mom (who I am staying with until I can get my own place, hopefully this summer) decided to berate me for an hour afterward cause it wasn't high paying enough/full time. I just want to be out of this house.

I finally came across the tumblr "SJWs" today

(The people who use social justice as an excuse to harass people who like/dislike things that they don't, of course, not the straw SJWs who just care about social justice stuff)

I knew they existed, but for whatever reason, I hadn't ever encountered them before.

They're...strange. And cringey.

This one in particular created a sideblog specifically to trawl through the tags of a pairing and character that she doesn't like and try to rile people up. And she seems to have convinced herself that what she's doing is actual activism, which is so bizarre to me. Like, she had to figure out a way to justify to herself why fandom is inspiring such intense emotions in her, and feels so important to her, and that's how she wound up doing it.

She was in her late teens. The others were, as well, with the exception of one 20-year-old. Man, they are gonna be so embarrassed when they look back on this in ten years.

I don't really know where I'm going with this (especially since I just blocked all of them, so that I don't have to directly see any drama). I think I'm just like, "oh hey I finally saw this thing that everyone is always talking about." My impression is that it's silly and sad and very young.

Revitalized old fandoms (Death Note)

I was hugely involved in the fandom back in the day, and Death Note has always had a special place in my heart. Now since that trailer came out, I started poking my head in fandom discussions and things. So many people are just watching it now, since Netflix is promoting the anime so much to prepare for the movie, and it is ridiculously nostalgic. People arguing about the same things they did ten years ago. It's that amazing rare opportunity where I could literally join an old, beloved fandom and it'd be just where I left it.

Anyone had a similar experience? And in particular, any other DN fans feeling all the nostalgia?

When I mentioned to my friends that working with dogs has made it so I'm barely phased by being mounted anymore, they all got weirded out. But to me, it's just something that happens.

...yes? That's how it works! Part of how we develop empathy is by learning about people who are different from us, or by experiencing things that people who are different from us have gone through, or by watching someone close to us experience those things.

Why is it bad when that happens? Why would you want to chase away someone who's on your side now and wants to fight for you?

And why don't you realize that YOU ARE THE SAME?

Why is race so important to black people in America? Why is gender so important to women in America? Why are gay rights so important to LGB people? Why are trans rights so important to trans people?

BECAUSE IT'S FUCKING PERSONAL.

You don't give two shits about gay rights because you aren't gay, you don't give two shits about women because you're a man, and the only reason you care about black people is because you yourself are black. But you get all bent out of shape over others working the exact same fucking way.

This is actually why the right is winning. Because the right figured out how to fucking unify its base while the left has been tying itself in knots over who most deserves to be part of the fight.

Weird feelings about Russian pal

I feel bad because a friendly acquaintance of mine lives in Russia and it's been hard for me to see them the same way since the election influencing scandals hit here (USA).

Intellectually I know they have nothing to do with it and that we actually share many views, but I feel weird about even talking to them lately, raw and suspicious.

I've never had anything against Russian people before. It's a weird feeling, and I generally really like this person. 😥.

I hope it passes, and that they can't tell how I feel.
