I'd buy you a drink.

12 fics I intend to read at some point, 4 arts that I haven't decided whether or not to favorite, the comments section of an old profile on some old website, 3 google searches, 2 video game guides, 2 tumblr accounts, a bus schedule, Gmail, and this comment window. And a partridge in a pear tree.

The one who puts on an Anon mask when they're about to fight people.

Otherwise the person who just chills with a beverage and a book in the corner and occasionally shouts an opinion

Dude, wtf. I mean, I've seen weird art that makes me go why, but I think this may be a top contender for number one. I hate people sometimes.

Within the the arctic circle

(Anonymous) 2017-05-06 09:42 pm (UTC)(link)
Well, yes. The question wasn't what is definitely a fetish and objectification, but rather whether something that can be definitely considered not fetishizing or objectifying, exists.

Just looked it up. They live in northern regions around the arctic. Nowhere fucking near the pole. WHY ARE THEY CALLED POLAR BEARS?!?!?

Its all been one big fucking lie and now its coming crashing down around me.

Same.

Nothing is made in a vacuum but I get wanting to relax and well there's a political discussion.

I used to do that, and just ended up with a great big stack of crumpled recipes with no way to search through them (like I mean, it's easier to just search google and find a new recipe than it is to flip through all my old ones. Also the reason I gave up on recipe books/magazines).

They live in the icier parts of the Arctic Circle. You can find them in Alaska, Canada, Russia, Greenland and Norway, usually near water.

Re: Robin Hood

(Anonymous) 2017-05-06 09:44 pm (UTC)(link)
Howard Pyle's Merry Adventures of Robin Hood is a great beginners version of the overall storyline. Make sure to get one that has his original illustrations, they're great. For older stuff, the Child ballads are good although if you read them in the original spelling they can be tricky to understand if you aren't familiar with old time spelling etc.

I just feel a little sado for them in that they've decided to cut themselves off from so much interesting stuff.

haha, I think pretty much everyone feels this way about the stuff they're really passionate about.

I wouldn't say I think I'm better, but when somebody does say they have a blanket block on old movies, I do tend to think they're a bit inflexible. I mean, I get that different social mores, different film conventions and different pacing can be offputting the first couple of times, but it's mostly just a matter of getting used to them. Or, in the case of the latter two, even enjoying them (I prefer the pacing in a lot of older movies, say 70s back).

I don't see why "it's not in color", at least, isn't a legit reason ("it's not HD" is weird for me since I can't really tell the difference, and "that's a Grandma movie" sounds very subjective). Some people just don't like B&W?

A couple of Hopkins and the Sunkerns around every corner. Both a rare sight so I'm happy

Pastures Of Plenty, Woody Guthrie

It's a mighty hard row that my poor hands have hoed
My tired feet have traveled one hot dusty road
Out of your Dust Bowl and westward we rolled
And your deserts were hot and your mountains were cold

I worked in your orchards of peaches and prune
Slept on the ground in the light of your moon
On the edge of the city you'll see us and then
We come with the dust and we go with the wind

California and Arizona, I make all your crops
Then its north up to Oregon to gather your hops
Dig the beets from your ground, cut the grapes from your vine
To place on your table your light sparkling wine

Green pastures of plenty from dry desert ground
From the Grand Coulee Dam where the waters run down
Every state in this Union us migrants have been
We'll work in this fight and we'll fight till we win

Well, it's always we rambled, that river and I
All along your green valley, I will work till I die
My land I'll defend with my life if it be
'Cause my pastures of plenty must always be free
Yes my pastures of plenty must always be free

I mean, that's fine, but there is a very clear trend toward both racism and misogyny in older films.

This is not to say those trends aren't present in more current films, but I think overall we're moving in the general direction of not being bigoted assholes in our media. So very slowly, I'll grant you, but I think it's happening. This is also not to say that every single "old" film ever is a racist and misogynist pile of shit, but the chances of finding a white person painted to look like someone of a different race gets higher the farther back you go, and the chance of a woman doing something both relevant to the plot and unrelated to having a romantic relationship with a man? Also decreases as the age of the film in question increases.

Again, they're not all bad - there are a few good older movies - but holy fuck, man, I feel like I really have to look hard to find them.

A Steam community guide for Civ V, my to-do list on Google Docs, and this

it's actually pretty small, but I was closing things up because I'm about to fire up Civ again

Aw, come on. PRiS was cheesy and adorable. (And had its cringeworthy moments, to be fair, but every series in the franchise has its cringeworthy moments.) It was super super cute. Besides, it had one of the most fun villains in Astronema and one of the best finales in the franchise.

Personally, I find MMPR's treatment of Bulk and Skull to be way harder to watch than anything in PRiS. Yeah, the two of them were assholes, but the way the Rangers treated them was also kind of awful.

Uh

I'm pretty sure there is a geographic north pole

saying there's no landmass around it is not the same as saying that there's no north pole

It's really cute, just like last year's FCBD offering! Superhero school's out for the summer and Diana's been invited to stay at Olympus for the whole break. The plot of the comic is her trying to find a friend to go with her only to find that most of them have conflicting plans.

Spoiler:
Bumblebee goes with her.

Now I feel rather silly! Never abbreviated her initials that way, so never twigged. Oops?
