I blame Giuliani and Dinkins. They turned New York and Times Square into a goddamn themepark instead of the vibrant working city it was before. Fuck them hard with Dirty Elmo's "Free Hugs" sign.

SoHo and Union Square are my favorite parts of NYC. I just hate that Times Square is the easiest place for me to get to in the city so I almost always end up going through there and that subway station is one of my least favorites but it's so well connected.

Times Square is only nice at 4 in the morning on Christmas Day, all the lights are on and the place is empty like a zombie apocalypse is about to hit.

Las Vegas as a whole.

I'd probably be a lot happier if I was the kind of person who really liked Las Vegas, but I don't.

I see no point in going there if gambling isn't your thing. And I don't gamble, so I doubt I'll ever visit. Well, my cousin and his girlfriend and their new baby live there. So I might visit them. But other than that, I have no interest.

This. The only thing I really liked about it was you could smoke indoors (this was when I still smoked).

Vegas can be tolerated in small doses. And I always plan a concert/show because otherwise, it really can be disappointing.

Ditto. I went there for my cousin's wedding a while back and I was bored and unimpressed. I'm not a big fan of gambling (especially slots and such, I don't care for games where the outcome is determined entirely by luck rather than actual skill) and just walking around, it was mostly uninteresting shops and a bunch of guys standing along the streets handing out cards with pictures of naked women on them.

The Alamo. I was hoping for at least a bit of its history outside that one battle (a battle that is not particularly heroic and only happened because people didn't listen to advice and stayed in an unstrategic place). I'm more interested in its history as a Spanish Mission. But no, it is that one battle and only that battle. Plus, it is just very touristy.

Dubrovnik. I was hoping for history in Diocletian's palace, but instead it is just shops inside. I'm honestly not sure how GOT even films there because it is such a complete tourist trap completely full of modern things.

Did you at least visit the basement?

God, the Alamo was a field trip I had to go on so often as a Texas Youth, and it was always boring.

Neu Schwanstein. It is absolutely gorgeous from the outside, especially in connection with the breathtaking landscape around it. But the inside is largely unfinished and I really didn't like the art style of the very kitschy murals.

Hawaii was generally like every stereotype of Hawaii you've ever seen on television, there's no place in that state that isn't a tourist trap.

I mean, it's very pretty, but it was largely boring outside of seeing the pretty.

The Eiffel Tower.

In fairness to The Eiffel Tower, it's completely lovely, but being cursed out by a vendor while I was there was not ideal and soured the experience just a little bit.

The Louvre. Don't get me wrong, there are lots of wonderful things to see, but it's so hot and crowded and it's hard to get a good look at some paintings because of people crowding them and taking a million pictures of them.

It's... literally just a big rock.

I can't wait to tell all my friends. None of them have a rock this big. ;)

Mammoth Cave.
I usually love natural things and natural formations.
But it was...underwhelming? This coming from someone who LOVED Carter Caves.

Cliche, but Mount Rushmore.

Given that I have not traveled much, I don't actually have many options, buuut...

Hobbiton is cool but it is basically a model village. Also I'm not fond of ginger beer. Frankly, for me, the best part of it was probably the giftshop, and even then I feel the Weta Cave is better for Weta merch anyway, even if it's a daytrip away (8 hour tourist train ride - I'm sure one could get a quick plane from Auckland to Wellington though).

I would say Rotarua, but I was not expecting great things there anyway.

The food tour I did in Tasmania (going to a cheese and chocolate maker, a winery and an abalone place) was not as good as I hoped. Salamanca Markets were better, even if they didn't have many food stalls.
