Re: Things that stick in your craw

Yesterday I was deemed a bad person by people who took one idea I have and used it to pass assumptions and judgments on my character, my mental state and my politics and then pat themselves on the back for pointing out how awful the monolith of people "like me" are.

And I know I shouldn't let that get under my skin, but it still is a day later and all I want to say is your behaviour is no better than Trump's "bad hombres" talk. I hope you realize how hypocritical you are.

Fuck this place sometimes.

There's two different anons you could be from yesterday and I'm kinda curious whether you're salty about the food stamps debate or the one about animals

Also: with all due respect, are you actually looking to start the argument up again, or why else are you making this post

Re: Things that stick in your craw

(Anonymous) 2017-06-08 11:25 pm (UTC)(link)
I'm not looking to start that argument again. I'm letting people - some anon some not - say that they took an exchange of ideas and made it personal and hurtful and that's a shitty thing to do.

Re: Things that stick in your craw

(Anonymous) 2017-06-08 11:44 pm (UTC)(link)
I'm trying to be extremely polite here, and I'm sorry your feelings were hurt. But I also think that this is an area (assuming this is with the food stamps bit) where abstract ideas can have enormous impacts on peoples' real actual lives and actually harm them. I'm not sure if it's either possible or desirable to have a completely abstract exchange of ideas under those conditions.

Technically 3 different anons, because at least 2 were catching hell in the food stamps thread.

it looked like more people were against food stamps being used for junk food than were for?

Then don't be like every middle-class soccer mom who thinks poor people should be thankful they get any food and oh noes their tax payer money MIGHT buy someone a soda instead of just rice and lentils like those icky poor people deserve.

Because what sticks in my craw is people like you who think I don't deserve to be able to have any enjoyment from eating when I get relatively few joys as it is. I don't get to play video games and I get basic cable at best, my phone is cheap and I don't get much data on it and only have one because I need one. So let poor people have their few pleasures because not all of us can sit in our comfy suburb house with our husband and 2.5 kids or in their big apartment and watch whatever channel they want while Shirley and Joseph play PS4 in their bedroom.

~outrage~

Still don't support government assistance designated for food being used to buy soda.

Re: Things that stick in your craw

(Anonymous) 2017-06-09 01:43 am (UTC)(link)
It's a food product and I know some juices higher in sugar than some sodas. I also use it because, like another anon said, it's cheaper than ponying up funds for ADD meds and guess what caffeine and ADD do together? Congrats, I can now concentrate on shit I couldn't before at a much cheaper price.

We get it, you hate poor people and no matter how flippant and above it all you act, you're clearly butt-blasted that poor people dare to eat anything other than veggies and stuff.

Stop bitching about what poor people eat. Jesus. It's none of your fucking business.

Never had to use food stamps, but yeah, I agree.

Re: Things that stick in your craw

(Anonymous) 2017-06-09 12:03 am (UTC)(link)
And (assuming you are one of the food stamps anons) your ideas and views weren't saying negative things about others? Namely poor people? I would love to not be poor. I would love to not be obese. But white rice, white pasta, and white flour to make things like white tortillas are cheap and easy to pick up at a place i can walk to. My lunch is often chips or microwave popcorn from the dollar store which is easy walking distance from work. (Which I presume would not be allowed in your world.) It is very difficult for me to be able to buy healthy things and to find the time and energy to cook them. I would hate to have my food decisions to be policed. In an ideal world I would be able to afford healthy food and would be able to easily get to a place to buy it and wouldn't be so exhausted from working two jobs and walking because I don't have a car that I could make it. I don't live in that world. And I fucking hate people like you who judge me for decisions I wish I didn't have to make. If you are feeling judged right now, then welcome to my world. It sucks, doesn't it?

Re: Things that stick in your craw

(Anonymous) 2017-06-09 12:07 am (UTC)(link)
1. I've been pretty clear from the get-go that the things I don't think food stamps should be meant for are desserts and high-sugar things, so your popcorn assumption is flat-wrong.

2. I'm not judging you. But if that's the way you see it, I can't really do anything about that. But take note that I'm not the one saying I "fucking hate" people.

DA

(Anonymous) 2017-06-09 12:11 am (UTC)(link)
You are judging us. You just don't realize it. You think you're above it, that you just don't wanna pay for an unhealthy diet for us, but guess what. You're judging that we're using ~your money~ to buy the occasional sweet thing. Or a few sweet things. Because deep down you think we don't ~deserve~ those ad should fork over money while you faint on your couch at the idea we not be good poor people.

People are ultra dramatic on the internet. Present an opinion and you will invariably get outrage. The number of people who civilly engage in discussion as though the person on the other end of cyberspace is a human being are few and far between. To be honest, it's kind of therapeutic to rage on the internet, I'm guilty of it, too. But I appreciate the named users in particular who sit down and discuss a topic, even ones they clearly disagree with, without shrieking about how you are the same as Hitler or something.

Re: Things that stick in your craw

This is all true.

Re: Things that stick in your craw

(Anonymous) 2017-06-09 05:37 am (UTC)(link)
I didn't comment in the last one and I haven't posted in this thread yet but I wanted to add that the solution you're proposing would likely not work anyway (removing sweet foods from the foodstamps) because in my experience making something desirable unattainable/less attainable wouldn't help much in making people not eat it as much as adding healthier foods would.

Having sugary foods available alongside healthier foods works better than just cutting out sugar. Honestly if healthy foods are made more easily accessible cutting out sugary foods wouldn't even be needed at all.

Re: Things that stick in your craw

(Anonymous) 2017-06-09 02:25 pm (UTC)(link)
I have to kind of believe you know you're a bad person and you're just angry at being called out. If I were to come to f!s and go "The sky is clear, not blue, it just looks blue because of sunlight, if it was actually blue the stars and moon would be blue like looking at something through blue glass." And got a wave of "Lol it's blue, don't be a shitty person." I'd roll my eyes and move on.

But you're just so determined to punish people for being poor by deliberately excluding enjoyable food you have to know you're kind of a jerk.
