Things that stick in your craw

(Anonymous) 2017-06-08 10:53 pm (UTC)(link)
What's still bugging you, FS?

Re: Things that stick in your craw

Yesterday I was deemed a bad person by people who took one idea I have and used it to pass assumptions and judgments on my character, my mental state and my politics and then pat themselves on the back for pointing out how awful the monolith of people "like me" are.

And I know I shouldn't let that get under my skin, but it still is a day later and all I want to say is your behaviour is no better than Trump's "bad hombres" talk. I hope you realize how hypocritical you are.

Fuck this place sometimes.

There's two different anons you could be from yesterday and I'm kinda curious whether you're salty about the food stamps debate or the one about animals

Also: with all due respect, are you actually looking to start the argument up again, or why else are you making this post

Then don't be like every middle-class soccer mom who thinks poor people should be thankful they get any food and oh noes their tax payer money MIGHT buy someone a soda instead of just rice and lentils like those icky poor people deserve.

Because what sticks in my craw is people like you who think I don't deserve to be able to have any enjoyment from eating when I get relatively few joys as it is. I don't get to play video games and I get basic cable at best, my phone is cheap and I don't get much data on it and only have one because I need one. So let poor people have their few pleasures because not all of us can sit in our comfy suburb house with our husband and 2.5 kids or in their big apartment and watch whatever channel they want while Shirley and Joseph play PS4 in their bedroom.

And (assuming you are one of the food stamps anons) your ideas and views weren't saying negative things about others? Namely poor people? I would love to not be poor. I would love to not be obese. But white rice, white pasta, and white flour to make things like white tortillas are cheap and easy to pick up at a place i can walk to. My lunch is often chips or microwave popcorn from the dollar store which is easy walking distance from work. (Which I presume would not be allowed in your world.) It is very difficult for me to be able to buy healthy things and to find the time and energy to cook them. I would hate to have my food decisions to be policed. In an ideal world I would be able to afford healthy food and would be able to easily get to a place to buy it and wouldn't be so exhausted from working two jobs and walking because I don't have a car that I could make it. I don't live in that world. And I fucking hate people like you who judge me for decisions I wish I didn't have to make. If you are feeling judged right now, then welcome to my world. It sucks, doesn't it?

People are ultra dramatic on the internet. Present an opinion and you will invariably get outrage. The number of people who civilly engage in discussion as though the person on the other end of cyberspace is a human being are few and far between. To be honest, it's kind of therapeutic to rage on the internet, I'm guilty of it, too. But I appreciate the named users in particular who sit down and discuss a topic, even ones they clearly disagree with, without shrieking about how you are the same as Hitler or something.

I didn't comment in the last one and I haven't posted in this thread yet but I wanted to add that the solution you're proposing would likely not work anyway (removing sweet foods from the foodstamps) because in my experience making something desirable unattainable/less attainable wouldn't help much in making people not eat it as much as adding healthier foods would.

Having sugary foods available alongside healthier foods works better than just cutting out sugar. Honestly if healthy foods are made more easily accessible cutting out sugary foods wouldn't even be needed at all.

I have to kind of believe you know you're a bad person and you're just angry at being called out. If I were to come to f!s and go "The sky is clear, not blue, it just looks blue because of sunlight, if it was actually blue the stars and moon would be blue like looking at something through blue glass." And got a wave of "Lol it's blue, don't be a shitty person." I'd roll my eyes and move on.

But you're just so determined to punish people for being poor by deliberately excluding enjoyable food you have to know you're kind of a jerk.

The "Jurassic Park fanboys won, nyah nyah! Fuck you, scientists!" nature of most of the reporting of the Tyrannosaurs skin impressions paper yesterday. Guess what? Even the authors of the paper said that the presence of scaly skin on the bottom of the animal doesn't mean the animal didn't have feathers on it's top.

To quote Tom Holtz: "Presence of fuzz or feathers =/= absence of scales. Presence of scales =/= absence of fuzz or feathers.".

A girl in my fandom. She just got under my skin. I've only recently been able to stop hate checking her social media (bc I know that not good for me), but just the idea of her existence annoys me.

I only became familiar with her because we love the same character. I even started to follow her on tumblr, which only lasted a few days because I realized how obnoxious she was.

For the past several years, almost every new person I've initially wanted to try and be friends with has become one of these for me. It's a good thing I was always too shy to actually talk to any of them.

Traffic and bad Texas drivers. Honestly I get frustrated every time I have to drive. So many idiots. SO many macho people who insist on passing whenever they damn well want to, irregardless of safety.

How much media there is in horror films where the monster is a metaphor for the main character's mental illness.

Got any links? I'm a lesbian Tumblr user, and many of my mutuals fall somewhere in the LGBTQA+ spectrum, and I have thus far been fortunate enough to avoid seeing this sort of bullshit on my dash. Not that I in any way doubt that there is such gate-keeping wankery going around on Tumblr, 'cause that kind of thing is pretty much par for the course in certain areas of the site. I'd just like to see the examples 'cause I'm nosy and need my "other-people's-drama" fix.

What chunks of tumblr are worried about this weekend: People showing up with ace flag symbols.

What I'm worried about this weekend: Some asshole showing up with a carload of firearms murdering people like me to make a political statement.
