Are you putting off going to the doctor?

(Anonymous) 2017-06-09 11:16 pm (UTC)(link)
I am. I keep getting dizzy spells. I just about passed out in the kitchen earlier and all I did was just turn around too quickly. I swear I'll speak to my GP, at some point. End of the month, maybe, I think I need to see him about renewing my gabapentin prescription then anyway.

What are you dodging the doctor over?

I'm dodging finding a decent ENT because we can't afford it right now. The one I went to that was the only one covered by last year's insurance was awful and basically ordered a lot of tests and decided there was nothing wrong with me (in spite of clear symptoms and a CT that two other doctors said showed something). So not seeing him again. But because of the cost of all the useless stuff he did, can't afford to find another ENT until I have a job.

Yup. Dizzy spells. CONSTANT fatigue. Increasingly bad hand tremors. All slightly worrying, but none of it bad enough to risk the embarrassment of looking like a hypochondriac. I'm a moron, I know this.

I worry about looking like a hypochondriac too. Or worse. One of my most persistent paranoid fears is that people think I'm lying about being sick.

Oh, gods me too.

Its one of the reasons I'm making do on the anti-depressants I'm on. I know they're not enough, but how do you talk about something as unproovable as depression without sounding melodramatic or like a faker?

It's better to go in and be told it's nothing than to actually have a condition that gets worse without treatment!

I keep wondering if I should talk to a doctor about the times when it feels like I'm not getting enough air. For some reason it happens a lot when I'm trying to fall asleep. As if there's a hole in my lungs and no matter how much air I take in they never fill up right. But at the same time I know I really am getting enough air. It's been suggested that it's anxiety but it doesn't seem to have any connection to any of my other anxiety symptoms.

Right now, I'm not actually job hunting. I am taking time off to get my license and (possibly) move to a different city. My sister is moving there this month, so I can crash at her house while I find a new job in that (much larger) city.

While cooling my heels, I am going to become much better at Excel. Also going to look into being proficient on some other shit like LEAN and Sigma Six.

I am happier to just not be in that awful place. Also, according to one of my old co-workers, the people he has working on the machine are not doing too hot. So I got some schadenfreude from that.

I'm scheduled for a Pap test and I really don't want one (yes, I know it's important, but ugh), so I've been avoiding my doctor and I keep getting emails saying that I'm due for a physical. I've also been waking up to a racing heartbeat and I'm scared that it might be something really bad.

My sympathies go out to you. I've only one had one attempt at a pap smear and it ended up being a failure because I started to cry.

Not my doctors fault at all. I was very nervous about the entire thing and she did everything in her power to make it as comfortable as possible for me.

I actually haven't had one before and I feel super queasy about it. My doctor's great and told me I could put it off for a few years and I'm trying to convince myself that it's no big deal, but I'm really not looking forward to it at all.

Oh I just remembered I've been avoiding a physical too. I'm too good at avoidance. I honestly forget these things after a while. But I'm sick of blood tests. I come close to passing out every time I have blood drawn and it's miserable.

I don't mind getting blood drawn, but my little sister is terrified of needles and puts off physical exams because she hates getting blood drawn.

Pap smear. In my 30s, never gotten one.

Same. Never been to any ladybits doctor. No mammogram either. Honestly, not really looking to change that in the near future unless a concern comes up.

Last year I had a lot of fuzzy spells...turned out I had lyme disease.

I'm not, but that does remind me I need to make appointments for a mammogram and a physical for the fall!

My joint pain, and my weight, both of which are probably related. But I walk everywhere and it's the only exercise I don't hate, and I love to eat, and I hate that the common sense solution is eat and walk less. Also if it was just a too much weight and walking thing, why the fuck do my elbows hurt. Plus I think I might have PCOS, but when I mentioned it to my doctor, he ran down the list of symptoms and said "oh, that. Just eat less processed food and it will go away." Fucking bastard. I make stuff from scratch that sane people buy in stores, what processed food? And the obvious test for PCOS is to find out if I have cysts on my ovaries. Like yes I get that my weight is a problem and diet changes can be helpful with PCOS. But I would like to know if I actually have it, or my weird periods, weight gain, and sudden onset body hair a decade after I hit puberty were caused by something else.

My right hand has been painful for going on two weeks now. I've always had joint pain on and off since a teen, but never pain that lasted continuously like this. It started in the joint at the base of my thumb, making my thumb almost unusable, and has spread down my wrist and arm. :/

Also the sometimes-suicidal depressive phases I sometimes go through. They never last too long and by the time I worry myself to the point I think I should talk to someone they lift and I go through a positive/up swing so I don't really notice anything is wrong.

I was dodging everything, until just recently when I FINALLY got some insurance.

I don't like my GP but it's a hassle to find a new one and I seldom get sick so I keep putting off seeing him. I decided to treat my latest UTI with lots of tea and cranberry juice... until I had to get up six or seven times during the night to go pee, slept next to zilch, got dizzy spells at work the following day; actually crashed down and had my coworkers call the paramedics on me. Now I have hospital-prescribed antibiotics and everyone learnt I'm way older than they thought.

I'm pretty okay with the doctor thing... but it's been stupidly long since I went to the dentist.
