I collect Funko Pops. I have *looks around room*about 60? Maybe more. I got 1-2 I need to get rid of.

I also have three of the WoW Collector's Editions so pretty proud of that.

My favorite piece of merchandise is definitely my Wrath of the Lich King CE, aka the GREATEST VIDEO GAME EXPANSION EVER!

Fandom Dog Whistles

Which do you notice?

(dog whistle being anything that someone outside of the fandom is going to take at face value, but if you're in the fandom you know the meaning.

Mine's probably tagging familial bonds between unrelated characters meaning you hate the pairing.

Like "Shiro&Keith" "father/son relationship" "Space dad is protective of his space son" reads to me as they hate Shiro/Keith, where as if something's lacking the specific family reference I'm going to assume they're at worst meh about it.

What subtle tags do you look at and just know what side of The Wank someone's on?

I was thinking of this while listening to "What's My Name" from the Descendents 2 soundtrack. The antagonist's first mate (yeah they got a pirate them going on), boasts "I never learned to count because I'm number 1" but I'm just like "... omg I hope he's not serious. Poor kid".

Anybody ever heard someone boast something only to think "I don't know how you can think thats something to be proud of?" and why.

Book club - September recs + one question

Now taking recs for September!

This month is a little weird - I am going on vacation from Sunday through Wednesday this weekend/next week, so what I'm going to do is take recs through the end of this week (Fri or Sat, unless they fill up sooner) and then put up the poll when I get back from vacation.

I'm going to change it up a little bit from last month since we didn't get very many recs. We're still doing a two-month cooldown - any book that was recced in July or August is inelegible for September. However, I am re-raising the rec limit per person to two.

Please post the title, author, and a link to Goodreads or Amazon to prove that the book is a novel and is easily obtainable!
