So, I'm not "typically feminine", but I do think of myself as a girl.

When I think of female characters, I want someone I can identify with, rather than all these omg-I-need-to-be-saved types. I want to read about a girl who can kick ass. I hate romance in my stories, I hate reading about relationships and fashion (I find it obscenely boring). I want fighting and blood and robots and guns and swords and science and maybe a spot of political intrigue, and a girl who does it all and does it better than the boys. I want a girl who doesn't have to be in a relationship to be happy. I want someone who doesn't need to be saved all the time, and I want someone who does more than just stand around and talk. Because I'm sure as hell not going to stand around, I'm going to do my thing, I'm going to do my thing better than anyone, and I'm not going to let anything get in the way of that.

I usually end up reading mostly shounen manga with feminine looking boys and that's somewhat satisfactory. (And I avoid bitching about female characters, and I avoid reading stuff I know I won't like!) But I just wish sometimes that there were more girls, y'know, like me (but the girls in Dogs are pretty awesome, I gotta admit). Is that a bad thing to wish for?

And, if that makes me a misogynist can you please inform me? kthnxbye
(also, if you can recc moar manga with awesome kick ass girls that would be sweet)

130 - I simply don't like stereotypes of weak, useless women who "need" a man to come save them. After being bombarded with THAT a few times, of course you'll seek out anything that doesn't show it often.

That being said, Makino Tsukushi is still one of my favorite shoujo characters, even if she had to be saved several times by -- gasp -- a guy. Hana Yori Dango is Love.

158. RK was an anime I first got into fandom with many years ago. Before I was into yaoi/slash. I was very innocent back then, so I shipped all the canon pairings and they were special couples to me. So when I see slash and mismatched pairings of these characters...it really bothers me. Now that I am into slash, I can see why people would ship them and that it probably be very hot as well. But it still bothers me abit =P

130- Your inability to articulate your meaning correctly turned this post into misogynistic crap. Sad thing is, I think I know what you meant to say, and I agree with what I think you meant to say. But you gotta learn to express yourself better, dude. Language is all we got, on the internet. Also... I think it's kinda sad that you don't know any kickass, cool, traditionally feminine women. I know a lot. But then, I grew up an athlete, and it never occurred to me that leaving everything on the field, sweating bullets and running hard enough to possibly lose your breakfast just so you could catch that girl in front of you was anything but the womanly way. It wasn't any less feminine to me than hanging out with my girlfriends and painting our nails and talking about boys. Femininity can encompass a lot of things.

158- Oh god, I can't deal with that pairing either. They just don't work. Their friendship is a perfect guy friendship... nothing slashy about it.

The thing is, in general, I don't see a lot of slash potential in that show. I could possibly see a little Kaoru/Megumi, or some Saito/Sano... could definitely see Shishio/Sojiro, or maybe Anji with Sano. But overall, even the tender relationships between people of the same sex are fairly void of sexual tension. I don't know what it is, but most people are just very straight in that series.

158. You know, that pairing is simply something were I never saw the appeal. I can more or less understand the attraction of any pairing, but this one... no. It doesn't disturb me, it's just... hard to describe. Indifference?

I also want to use this opportunity to say that Saito/Sanosuke fanart was the first time I got in contact with the entire concept of slash. I was really O_o and freaked out at that time. But I got better.
